Who is your bottom 5?
Everybody has been dissecting the roster and practice squad of the past couple of days. Thoughts of trades & other scenarios have been mentioned as well. So, it got me thinking if things are to get better with this current 53 man roster - which 5 are still upgradeable, who do you think are the bottom 5 players of the crew?
DJ Johnson
I have listed my bottom 5 players (1. being at the bottom, 2. being next from the bottom and so on...):
- DJ Johnson (IDK about this guy.. box safety=ok, I'll buy that...other than that...crapshoot)
- Michael Johnson (he's okay for now, esp. when we have a stronger player next to him, but we can do better)
- Travis Beckum (he just hasn't showed anything yet)
- Adam Koets (looked decent at C at times...)
- Dave Tollefson (good all around serviceable DE, you can say he's just a good DE backup and ST player)
I'm giving Sage and Reynaud a pass this time around, since I haven't seen them play on Blue yet. And although I'm not a fan of Sage, he's had a decent career and will be serviceable once he gets the offense/language down. Reynaud is basically an upgrade over anybody else we had at that position (not including Hixon, time will tell though).

I'd agree with you that the first moves the Giants make to the roster...
they’ll be shedding Johnsons (and D.J. first). But I doubt that there’ll be much need to go beyond that as past history has shown that injuries will start arriving. Beckum hasn’t shown anything yet, but he’s also one of only two at TE, so the vultures aren’t landing on him just yet. Tolly I could see being traded if someone offered something of use, but that would more likely happen later, after another team has suffered an injury or two and needs a DE.
Still gotta laugh at the Beckum hate.
never have I seen essentially rookies get hated on so much. Really hope he gets out on the field and shuts this bullcrap up.
I only have 2, and that’s DJ Johnson and Adam Koets. I’d throw Sage Rosenfels in there too I guess.
not necessarily hate
The thread is the bottom 5 players. I think listing Beckum in the bottom 5 is fair. To date he’s done nothing while most others have contributed something. Even a guys like Cruz & Bomar got themselves noticed during the preseason.

I'd put Bomar and Cruz in the bottom 5
Duke Calhoun too, no doubt. Preseason is lovely, but largely preseason stars are irrelevant by the time the real games starts.
I actually considered them too
but at least for now…they have shown “Something” positive…so I would think since that is their first impression on the coaching staff, that’s a very good thing for them.
But no hate on Beckum- just a disappointed is what happened, whether it was his fault or not, it is what it is for him…and I agree in general that is only his second season, so I still have a lot of hope there for the guy…I did vote that it would be his breakout year on a previous poll on here and that was due in large part to what I was going by from his own interview after one of the Spring OTAs of what he expected from himself and the amount of work he was putting in to learning things.

thanks, Frank, that's exactly my point

No love
Beckum really hasnt done anthing to warrant praise of bashing. Hes young and still adjusting to everything. I say koets, dj johnson and i dont know. Its hard to pick backup players and say we need to upgrade it, they are reserves for a reason.

okay fair enough on Beckum....
I believe like most that he hasn’t shown anything…and I also do believe that he is only in his second year – so I agree with that statement somewhat…
the thing with him…is I honestly believe he belongs in the bottom, b/c quite frankly Bear Pascoe has shown that to me, he is a more important piece to this team than Becks…purely on his blocking, heart, and the willingness to do anything for the team….

DJ Ware is 1 of the 5
he’s shown us nothing and seems to dislike ST’s. I still perfer AB2 but oh well
yeh, shame with AB2...
I hear ya on DJ Ware, I was considering him too, but he has shown enough during this preseason at least ( or more so, just his showing in the New England game)…

for me
DJ Ware, DJ Johnson, Michael Johnson, Travis B and sadly…Barden. The last two guys have to prove they deserve to be on the field, we all expect big offense from them this year. I was gonna throw Bruce Johnson in there too cause I had a name theme going but I like him as the 4th corner, plus that INT in dallas was great last year.

I was going to just put all the "Johnsons" - and I remembered Bruce as well..lol

i would change 2 guys
i would take beckum and michael johnson out and replace them with duke calhoun and and kehl…
johnson was an important part of the super bowl run and he was the best safety on the roster last season
beckum is going to be a hybrid guy playing some receiver out there this year and i expect big things (i also LOVE this guy in madden)
kehl i feel has not shown anything whatsoever and i dont think he should have made the final cut
duke calhoun barely made the team and to be honest i would have rather had hagan for his special teams ability

Kehl
was that GUY who stopped the RB from crossing the goal-line against the Ravens
him and JPP, but Kehl was there first and basically pulled the RB back…he also chased down 2 receivers who were on their way to TDs…so I would disagree with you, he’s young & has shown enough to make it on the team…but I do know that based off of regular season play is was more like meh and practice/preseason highlights hasn’t translated in the regular games just yet. Although he has made a lot of tackles in the last few games last year…be it as it may…you can take that part with a grain of salt…
yes, Johnson was a best safety last year, but that’s really not saying much compared to CC, Rouse, etc. Unfortunately for MJohnson this year, it’s the other way around…he’s the worse of the bunch, but I have always believed serviceable enough playing next to a very good cover Safety.
Calhoun, yeah, I somewhat agree – but hearing TC’s explanation made sense, plus, did you see that break away speed…on his TD…and he’s like 6’5" or something…I liked Hagan alot! but did you see that break away speed???
