How do you prepare for a new NY Giant season?

With the 2010 New York Giant season starting in about a week, fans have different ways to get in the mindset for football and cheering on their team. It could be any number of things:

Doing your own scouting report of the team, game by game with a win/lose record

Predicting the team's record and chance at playoffs

Making a fantasy team, with mostly Giant players and seeing how it pans out

Dig your favorite gametime jersey/hat/etc. out of the closet

Playing simulated seasons of any of the Madden Games

Changing the channel to NFL Network and never leaving it

Watching old Giant games on video, DVD, DVR

Watching NFL Films highlights of past seasons, including the championship years

Going to Giants.com, Youtube, Hulu, etc. to watch your favorite plays

Listening to talking heads on TV/radio telling you how to feel for the upcoming season

Star-divide

I have a ritual that has been going for a few years now. 2008 - listened to the WFAN radio broadcast of SB 42 the night before the season started. 2009 - watched the "Road to SB 42" DVD set. 2010 - currently watching the "10 greatest games in NYG history" DVD set. I love watching old games to get me pumped up. I know whats going to happen but I still get nervous. It is great to see again and again. I am curious to see how all the other Big Blue Viewers do it.

LETS GO BIG BLUE IN 2010

Big Blue Ritual

Each year before the opener my wife and I watch all of the NFC Championships we’ve won enroute to our Superbowl victories. I like to save the best for last, which was our most recent and most improbable SB win. Some say in our history and in the history of the National Football League, the best Superbowl played, SB XLII. We watch past NY Giants victories in hope of a future season of victories. Despite the last two uneventful seasons we still believe the Giants will once again hold the George Halas Trophy high and proud. So in preparation of this year we again dust off our Giants gear and fly our New York flag high in support of our National Football League Team. This years 2010 Superbowl Champions THE NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS! LET THE GAMES BEGIN.

Living away from East Rutherford its hard to get to a game but i keep my eye on them

It starts around my birthday, Aug. 13. Preseason first game i usually watch the first half and then keep a close eye for emerging young players the rest of the way. Watching preseason football is brutal. My mind drifts away a bit as baseball is still dominant, but my mets are usually done by Sept 1 and i begin to focus.

2 weeks away i run through the roster find my favorite players, Oh Chase Blackburn, and usually one guy who i cant stand. Refresh with the schedule and formulate how its going to go.

Week of week 1, where we are right now. I’ve downloaded some classic NFL Films music and cued it up with some Springsteen(jungleland of coarse) and some other quality rock. I will be up early on the 12th. Shower put on ESPN and get the insight to the upcoming games.

Around 10 a.m. after shower breakfast and maybe a beer i flip on the Giants season playlist to get jacked up for the game. Something about various metal, NJ’s own The Boss, and old NFL music makes me want to toss on the pads and go headhunting for eagles.

I then stroll to the bar i’ve watch the giants for the past 5 years order a Capt and Coke, order some food, a few beers meet my fellow giants fans in Charlotte,NC and get it kicked off right.

All head to toe in big blue gear. Hat, t-shirt, jersey, and yes…BIG BLUE UNDERWEAR!

I hate Philadelphia so much.

I generally take a trek to Foxboro

where I streak around the parking lot with 17-14 painted on the front and 18-1 painted on the back.

I still have my printed Order Confirmation from Amazon...

of “19-0,” a book by the Boston Herald staff about the Pats incredible unbeaten season. About 2 week after the SB I got an email from Amazon (which I should have kept but didn’t) saying that they were refunding my money. I’m thinking I ought to see if I could get Belichick or Tom Brady to sign that someday, along with some Giants involved in the effort.

the streaking I meant.

Although the book is pretty funny too.

best time of the year

nfl network is always on, i play whole seasons in madden franchise with the giants (btw if youre wondering i cut bernard myself), i have an eli home jersey (premier) and ahmad bradshaw away jersey (authentic) and matching colored hats to go with them which i wear every sunday, this year i already bought tix for week 3 vs the titans (bulluck is gonna whoop some tail in that game), week 4 vs the bears, and week 11 vs the cowboys, with the option of going to either the game against the lions or against the redskins. i have been a die hard giants fan since i was 16 and every year i fall more and more in love with this team. during football season i eat, sleep, and breathe giants football, this shit is my life. i told my boss i would working monday through saturday, as long as i dont have to work sundays during the season. sorry for the long rant but im just so excited for another year of new york giants football!

There used to be a nice podcast,

called NYGiantscast. They did pregame a few days prior and then postgame on Tuesdays. It was two SU students (I live near the ‘CUSE) so that was extra cool. The show has stopped but I still have it in iTunes. Its nice to go back and listen to the postgame for the Superbowl… Also have the DVD’s of week 16 – SB42 which are always good for a pick me up. Anyone remember how much Plaxico dominated Al Harris in the GB game?

Next DVD to pick up for me will be the “10 Greatest Giants Games of all time”
Anyone already have it?

The 12-step Preseason Preparation Program.

STEP 1: Sit in front of TiVo.
STEP 2: Start programming in “New York Football Giants” – RECORD ALL.
STEP 3: Listen to Mrs. Hugh do her impression of me…“Git ‘em! That’s Giants football! GIT ’EM!”
STEP 4: Make Kevin Gilbride voodoo doll.
STEP 5: Place hex on Andy Reid Kevin Kolb the city of Philadelphia.
STEP 6: Send Jessica Simpson a love note. (Return address: Tony Romo.)
STEP 7: Think of prank to pull on Redskins. Feel bad – it’s like kicking a puppy.
STEP 8: Decide – Screw Step 7! That puppy is not only wearing a stupid sweater - it’s a Redskins sweater!
STEP 9: Read major sporting publications. Note that every single one of them ignores the mighty Giants.
STEP 10: Plot revenge.
STEP 11: Take out vintage Carl Banks jersey. (Who the hell has a Carl Banks jersey? Yep. Me.)
STEP 12: Shake head at that stupid dancing robot on Fox Sports. Rejoice that football season is here.

I left my swagger in my other pants.
