Veteran QB Patrick Ramsey Released By Saints
Will the release of veteran quarterback Patrick Ramsey by the New Orleans Saints end up affecting the New York Giants and Rhett Bomar? We will just have to wait and see.
Ramsey, a seven-year veteran, has played just four games since the 2005 season. He has not played an NFL game since going on Injured Reserve with an elbow problem while with Denver in 2008.
As far as I'm concerned, Ramsey was never very good in the first place, and it's been so long since he has really played bringing him in would be risky. I would rather stick with Bomar.
One other note: Derrick Ward is now a Houston Texan.

Ramsey is not a logical piece for the Giants. Leave him alone.
Not surprised that DW was picked up as quickly as he was. Texans must hav realized the value that the Bucs did not. I will keep an eye on him

If Ward can stay in shape he will be a good addition for the texans.
Anyone else surprised that so many kinda big names are already being shoped around or about to be cut?
Not me. With all of the teams being tight with money I'm not surprised at all.

Texans good fit for Ward
They have a legit passing game. TB didn’t have anything close to that.

Agreed. Also, Texans played extreme,y well against the Cowboys.
They appear to have all their ducks in order and will know how to use Ward in ways that the Bucs could not. I suspect that the Texans will be a major problem for all opposing NFL teams.

Sage Rosenfels apparently has been traded to us according to FOXSports

I heard they gave up conditional picks

It's a good move
Bomar is a nice kid, but he isn’t ready to be the backup.

depends
on what we gave up. If we gave up a 5th round or later than it’s a good move.

But why haven't they disclosed what pick they gave for him..
Must have been higher.

Is it really?
I mean, obviously we’d be screwed if Eli went down, but do you think Bomar right now could do a better job than Rosenfels?

probably not
but its Eli Manning at QB. This is like getting volcano insurance in NY. Useless.
Waste of a likely future draft pick and also probably Bomar. They ain’t keeping 3QB’s, too many “bubble” players that they ain’t gonna cut.
So it’d be a waste of a roster spot to keep 3QB’s…so bye Bomar.
On a side note
Im reading some things that the broncos might be shopping CB Alphonso smith. Dont know much about him but the guess is he might be had for a late round pick.
Should we be interested.
I really didn't think it was neccesary.
I hope he came cheap, because I think there are greater concerns. Thought we could get by with Bomar.
Anyone think that they still keep Bomar?
Go Big Blue!
Well its either keep 3 QB's
or lose Bomar. He ain’t making it past waivers and to the PS.
They lose Bomar, and a draft pick for F’in Rosenfels, someone deserves to be beat.
Ok
Will b Sorry to see Bomar go, but hopefully he sticks to the PS.
They haven't definitively said they're letting him go yet

Apparently, we're also getting WR Darius Reynaud in the deal
Deal is Reynaud and Rosenfels for a 2011 pick and a conditional pick in 2012

Erm, RB Daris Reynaud
He’s a punt returner

I felt that something was up when TC refused to commit to Bomar.
Not sure if Sage Rosenfels is a good acquisition though. The Vikings had an overload of QBs anyway. They would have probably let him go and the Giants could have got him without giving up a draft pick. At least I think that could have happened.

eli isnt a Fabergé egg
you can drop him and still use him. has anybody tried to sell you guys insurance?
what the hell is a justin bieber?
Obviously, he's not fragile
But it isn’t a horrible thing to have a good backup. Look what happened to the Cowboys in 2008; they assumed Romo would stay healthy, and when he went down, they were forced to turn to freaking Brad Johnson for a month.

Seen its a 5th rounder in 2011
dunno about the conditional in 2012 tho.
But Reynaud’s part of the deal, and he’s been pretty damn good for the Vikings as a returner.
This is pretty much like getting Domink Hixon again, except Reynaud is actually a burner but not the receiver Hixon was.
Vikings fans are very upset
That means the Giants did well.
All you guys who filled out the 53-man roster will need to adjust it. Reynaud is going to be a returner. That means one less RB spot is available.

Regarding Eli...
Yes, he’s a horse, and he’ll play if he’s able and the doctors let him, but a backup QB is also insurance against another bout of his foot problem, and no matter who is quarterbacking in the NFL, (or playing any other position for that matter), NOBODY is exempt from the danger of injury. When the Giants signed Sorgi, they obviously were saying Bomar wasn’t ready. I think Bomar made great strides, but apparently management felt he still wasn’t quite ready and the trade was cost effective.
It’s possible they will keep three QB’s (though unlikely), and it’s probable that if they don’t, Bomar will head to the practice squad. He may well make it there, as this trade is obviously a judgement by the Giants that he’s not ready yet, and there will be many other quarterbacks available and at the moment, as the season hasn’t started taking attrition by injury yet, most teams already have one, two or more. If Bomar is on the practice squad, he also could move up if there’s an injury to one of the Giants other QB’s, but he also could be taken by someone else as need pops up.
All in all, given TC’s dislike for using inexperienced players in key positions, and the fact that even those of us who like Bomar think he needs to continue progressing, there’s little surprising here. But I’ll add this, I won’t be shocked if Reese tries to swing another trade or two back in order to recover the draft choices spent. We have depth in a few areas that he could exploit if so desired.
the thing with that...
is Eli had a separated shoulder in 2008 and the foot problem in 2009. David Carr was here, who I don’t think there’s any question is better then Rosenfels, or at least in 2009 he’d be after learning the offense for a year.
..and nothing. Only game he started was cuz the Giants already locked up the division.
So if they have a good backup and Eli’s foot problem doesn’t make him miss anything..why, are we wasting draft picks again on a backup QB?
Probably cause.....you never know....
Look at our third round pick this year, a guy we both liked and thought had a bright future. He goes to practice, does well, flies home and gets in an automotive accident. Season, maybe career done. The “Black Swan” that you defend against may or may not come forth on the football field. It could be walking down a flight of stairs, driving to the stadium, or a zillion other places. I’m not saying there’s an overwhelming chance that Eli gets hurt and misses action, but I’m not saying it’s impossible, nor imprudent to be prepared against that event. Again, they obviously thought going into camp that Bomar needed another year on the practice squad. I think he grew a great deal, and perhaps in a different situation it would have been deemed enough, but I suspect TC wasn’t ready to give the keys to the offense to someone who hadn’t played a down in the NFL if there was a need. I believe Sage is signed through this season, as is Sorgi. This could leave Bomar a year on practice squad to be ready to take over backup duties next year, which was the original situation. I’m not crazy about getting Sage, but the combination of the insurance he brings and a kickoff returner for a fifth rounder doesn’t look awful. And from what I understand at this point, the conditional draft pick in 2012 is based on how much time Sage plays, which in your view, (and hopefully the correct view), will be not at all, negating part of the cost of the deal. If he does play a lot, it probably means we needed to make the trade.
2007
Eli had the separated shoulder, ESPN said he was gonna miss a month. Which meant Hefty Lefty or Anthony Wright would of started (they did not have Carr yet). No one including the coaching staff wanted to see that.

There was that one too
But I was talking about the Carr era. Cuz he had a separated shoulder in 08 too after Shaun Rogers did a swan dive on him
