Giants Injury Update
[UPDATE by Ed Valentine, 09/13/10 7:29 PM EDT: Tom Coughlin confirmed these in his Monday presser.]
According to AP, Kevin Boss suffered his third concussion in two years in yesterday's game, and tackle William Beatty has a broken foot.
Boss's status for the game against Indianapolis is unknown, and no time frame was given on Beatty either.
No truth to the rumor that Matt Dodge suffered a sprained neck from constantly looking to Heaven for answers as to what is wrong with his punting.

Holy Zing with the Dodge comment.

Well
if Dodge starts punting towards the heavens, it means he will have more hang time, and I would say amen to that (so would Coughlin).

the poor guy is a magnet for big hits. He needs to sit or retire. He’s young. Concussions take their toll. Too many ex-football players end up being vegetable.

Hockey players too Frank. I was in close contact with a former NY Ranger who 20 years after his career is still suffering post-concussion syndrome, and declined to be interviewed simply because he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to remember things.

Yeah
but they need to make room, which means either cut somebody from their current 53 man roster or put somebody on IR (most likely Beatty).

+1 Ka-jillion.
1. Bring up Bear NOW.
2. Go to the circus and see if there’s another bear who can punt. Because that rookie…he’s bad at his job.

Boss 3rd concussion in 2 years.....Beatty broken foot could be done for season....
Maybe I’m being a stick in the mud….but I can’t find the humor in the post…even if it’s at Matt Dodge’s expense.

Yeah my uneducated guess on Boss, with this being his third concussion is we’re looking at a minimum four weeks. Like I said, that is an uneducated guess.

Just seemed like every time they showed him on TV yesterday, he was looking skyward.
What I don’t get is, its not like he is trying to learn something new, like a rookie QB learning a new offense, or a LB learning a defense. Punting is punting wherever you do it.
1. Take snap
2. Kick ball far and high.
If he did it in college, he should be able to do it in the NFL.

“Yeah he has more hang-time before the kick than he does when he kicks it…” Love it, both funny.
Bear signed off PS is a given.
Beckum, well, its all been said, a big fat ZERO at TE.
We may see a signing of a TE off waivers or something. I don’t know who is out there but we need help desperately. Maybe Ballard too off PS? Now is when we need Chandler, shame.
Esp with our other “TE” Beatty out. Bring on Andrews, shuffle that line.

But we can’t get him… so we might as well forget em.
We had the hot, crazy chick at the time (Shockey)
But worrying about Shiancoe is like worrying about Ryan Grant.
No one was talking about Shiancoe before Farve got there anyway, someone who always makes his TE’s better then they actually are.
Love to have found a way to keep Shiancoe, but its too much money for a position that you can usually find a UDFA to block (like Bear Pascoe).

prolly on PATs & FGs
and someone stepped on his foot. Thats usually an 6-8 week recovery time. Maybe a little more. But I can’t see them putting him on IR if its 6-8.
Last I saw it might require surgery
That would end the season
then i'd say yes he's out for the season
altho when i broke my foot it was a cast for 6 weeks. depends on severity
Yup I blew both ankles
1 six weeks
The other 3 months
Feel sad for Kevin Boss.
He needs to learn how to take a tackle. He plays high all the time… he needs to get lower. When you play high, you get cracked!
I feel like he should retire, if he doesn’t learn how to take a tackle. 3 concussions… wow!
it has nothing to do with learning how to take a tackle....
Eli hangs him out to dry.
I don’t know how many times Boss sacrifices his body to save Eli’s passes…..I am willing to bet that at least 2 of those concussions came on Eli passes that were high and behind Kevin that he “went up” to go get…..
"If I'm curt, then I apologize" - Newman
I don't get why the plays are run
It’s a part of the field where Safeties are just waiting to kill you
The hits leading to Bossman's concussions...
…never seem to draw a flag either. WTF?

Safeties
Are lurking to put big hits everywhere. You have to use the middle of the field in the passing game.
by Ed Valentine on Sep 14, 2010 8:12 AM EDT up reply actions
That last concussion was a cheap shot after Boss went down
not Eli’s fault at all
by mclaren_is_the_best on Sep 13, 2010 10:06 PM EDT up reply actions
granted...but coincidentally
he was going up for a pass that forced him to turn his back to the safety and leave his feet. Thus leaving his back and the back of his head exposed. I agree that it was a cheap shot but how many times do you see that happen in the course of a game? Guys get hit late all the time. Sometimes it’s called, a lot of times it’s not. Regardless, hanging someone up to dry is a recipe for disaster….usually resulting in an awkward fall or a vicious hit
"If I'm curt, then I apologize" - Newman
Were Boss an Eagle...
…he would have been back out on the field two series after the hit.
by Step up and make big plays on Sep 13, 2010 10:54 PM EDT up reply actions
I was thinking that too
he seems to be put in these bad situations by Eli where he’s exposed to the big hit. I mean he took some sick hits last year too. He also hangs onto a lot of these balls too.
not saying its ok
But most TEs go over the middle and get those kind of passes. Boss is not the only TE to ever have to reach for a ball like that with a safety coming for him. Last years hit was late, so was this one…. can’t blame this on Eli

Jking is right.. boss plays the game way too high…he always absorbs most of the hit. He never gets his pads low.

Bossman has been put in some bad positions by throws that were not on the money.
Incidentally, one of the concussions he sustained last year which the organization tried to downplay the severity of came at the hands of none other than current teammate Antrelle Rolle.

Glad this guy is
on our team now. He also knocked Trent Edwards out for Buffalo and took out a SF player as well—RB I think last year. 3 in a year—WHOLLY S^&T!!
So I went to go watch the Barden play again
and my DVR got cut off w/ 8 minutes to go in the 4th….
it was actually funny b/c it stopped exactly when they showed the OC double face-palming in the booth!!!!
"If I'm curt, then I apologize" - Newman
I know this is taboo, but ...
Why does Eli go up the ladder that high on Barden?
just saying 12 inches lower is still undefendable
question for you guys....did anyone notice the 2nd-ary giving all their INTs to Cweb?
Seems like those guys are taking it upon themselves to put an emphasis on Turnovers this year. they are clearly taking notice.

3 concussions in 2 years for Boss
Is pretty alarming. In fact they shouldn’t rush him back at all. See what Pascoe and Beckum can do.
I do think Eli hangs him out to dry a little, he doesn’t even get a chance to make the catch and lower the pads to absorb the hit. Most of the time as soon as his hands touch the ball he gets blasted. No question navigating the middle is going to bring its share of hits, but if given time to take it the right way he could possibly avoid the vicious looking ones.
