Giants 31, Panthers 18: Mistakes? What Mistakes? It's A 'W'
Sloppy. Mistake-filled. Way harder than it had to be. But, our New York Giants are 1-0 after defeating the Carolina Panthers, 31-18.
So, it's a victory and a happy recap. I will take it.

Defintiely sloppy in regard to receivers and special teams
But overall, the team played well, and it’s great to open the new GIANTS stadium with a win.
Next week should be interesting…

I think we’re talented enough to stumble into enough wins to make the playoffs. need to hope we dont get any big injuries on defense
I see no reason why this team couldn't make it at least as a WC team

I stayed off the board so pardon me if I am redundant
aside from the big run in the begining I thought we played pretty damn good on Defense. TT and Cweb played very well.
the turnovers…absolutely awful. the tip pass to AB should have NEVER been an INT. the Pass to Nicks also should have been caught. The one to Barden. that’s on Eli IMO.
Oline still looks sloppy on running plays.
wayyyy too many penalties. that’s gotta end.
but nice adjustments after half time and and all around good start to the season.

D did look good
except for some 3rd and long situations in the 2nd half that they let Carolina convert.
Have to disagree

agree with everything you said
D looked really good, especially run stopping
Special Teams really stink, could say worse but keeping it PG
Eli looked good, the INTs were not on him
WR gotta know the ball is allowed to be catched, not batted up in the air
Boss better be back sooner then later
Nicks is the man, gonna have a sick year
Jacobs looked ok’ Bradshaw got going as the game went on
O-Line needs to get better, especially on runs
All in all, problems that can hopefully be solved but its a win in the new house. 1-0

the fox announcers
are just terrible. they didn’t cover the starting units and didn’t bother mentioning when guys were coming on and off the field, it was very tough trying to figure out what kind of packages the defense was using from snap to snap.
the cbs and nbc crews so such a great job with little things like that, they would’ve pointed out a line with all DEs.
One thing that was disappointing is that the DL wasn't getting much pressure before the Panthers started only throwing the ball

by The Always Well Dressed... on Sep 12, 2010 5:03 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m not sure that I agree with this. The 1st half the DL got good penetration against the run and made plays. Remember Carolina is a run 1st, play action team so the 1st half was all about ball control. The 2nd half when Eli got the offense going Carolina had to pass but the defense held them scoreless and that was due to the DL again stopping the run and forcing the Panthers to throw the ball. The fact that Carolina abandoned their run game in the redzone is proof positive that the DL played extremely well today.
Freedom is a road seldom traveled by the multitudes...

for teams that are run first and 2nd teams
and occasional pass, I’d think so. But those are rare.
We’ll see next week. That’s a pass all the time O and occasional run. But they can’t blitz all day against Peyton.
by FreeBradshaw on Sep 12, 2010 5:44 PM EDT up reply actions
I think it's because they were playing it safe
against a run-first offense. You have to maintain containment because Williams and Stewart can cut back if you over-pursue. Selling out for the sack would’ve opened up some gaping holes, especially on draw plays.

Sloppy 1st game
but if you look at all 32 teams, everyone’s sloppy on week 1. It happens.
The WRs will catch the ball. I have no doubts with that.
The KO coverage was better in the 2nd half, so that may be getting better.
Loved Fuel’s adjustments in the 2nd half, nice to have real DC (and DB’s too!)
Eli looked good. Those INT’s weren’t all drops on teh WR’s, those throws could’ve been a bit more on target, but again, takes time to gel.
OL looked a bit better in the 2nd half too.
but the pass blocking looks good.
Jacobs looks fresh and hungry too, but unlike last year I think its the OL at fault, not his injuries.
We’ll see. The OL hasn’t played together yet, so maybe a healthy week of practice and facing a college sized DL in the Colts will help that.

I can’t believe that no one on TV blamed a bad pass on Eli. Every pass was high – even to 6-6 Barden! Just one in the chest would have been good. No hating Eli though. He carried the team through the game since our running game couldn’t even run out the clock without a problem. Team looks good but needs work. Nice D in the second half

As the Founder and President
of the Mario Manningham fan club, I’m very happy with his performance. Like I said during the preseason, he’ll be fine as long as he gets the playbook.
Tom Quinn needs to be put on notice. He never should’ve been brought back but now that he’s here, he needs to fix the special teams unit ASAP. The return coverage is terrible. Dodge better had gotten over his rookie jitters.
Receivers not named Mario Manningham had problems catching the ball. Eli threw them a little off target but if it hits your hands, then catch the ball.
The defense was very good considering all the bad field position and the fact that they weren’t helped by the run game. A good run game keeps your defense off the field. We had none.

I thought the D played great…they gave up a couple plays, but they played really well. Special teams screwed them over, big time. If we can turn our Special teams around, and catch the ball on offense, we’re going to be touugggggghhhhh. I’m totally excited about the potential of this team.
Dline was on fire. Eli looked good, I don’t care what anyone says. Offensive line had a great 2nd half. Once we knocked the rust off, the team looked dangerous. Terrell Thomas!!!!

The adjustments going into the 2nd half were great. The depth at defensive line showed in the 4th quarter. Eli was very good. The DBs players great. The LBs weren’t really noticeable (so not good nor bad). They made some nice tackles here and there. The offensive line was better than I expected.
Dropped passes led to interceptions.

We actually had problems
Using Beatty at TE. Yes you can throw but not to Beatty. The point is you know that guy is staying in to block and don’t have to account for him. We also learned Beckum can’t play TE so we did need to swap out for Beatty just to try to run it. Running in the first half was awful.

I think our defense was great today
considering they got no help from the other phases of the ball for almost the entire first half, i trust our receivers to learn how to catch like they did last year, special teams are scaring me but it feels good to be proud of the defense for the first time in a while
Also anybody wanna guess who shawn andrews might be replacing if he does replace anybody?
Probably gonna be an injury rather then poor play.
The OL needs practice and game time playing together. I think they’ll be fine.
Next week si a big guage, if they can’t run on the COlts…then something’s wrong. But they did pass protect very well, and that counts for something.

I don’t want to blame everything on Dodge, even though he was pretty bad, the st players has to do a better job and that block punt was horrible, who ever allowed that player to block that punt, needs to be bench and replaced

Great game today.
Two thoughts.
Eli had time against what was supposed to be a good pass rush, very pleased with that.
On the other side of the ball Tuck said in the post-game they didn’t dial up a pass rush until the second half, which is when they got there, also very pleased with that.
Mistakes are going to happen, it’s week one…obviously the turnovers need to be dealt with, we would have lost to a better team today otherwise.
Overall, very excited. Great game to open the new stadium.

Oh Free
wherever you went, this is the reason why you couldn’t get the game on TV.
From GGN
As a starter, either FOX or CBS has a doubleheader every week. The network with the doubleheader will show both an early game and a late game. The network that does not will only show one game. This week FOX has the doubleheader. All of CBS’ games are early this week because they will show coverage of the US Open tennis tournament in the late afternoon.
There are exceptions to these rules. For example, when a team in your home market is playing a home game, no other game can be shown on local television. For example, FOX has the doubleheader today, but fans in Boston will only get a late game. The Patriots play an early game on CBS, which means FOX cannot show an early game in Boston.
It appears the NFL has made an exception to this rule today in New York. Although the Giants play early on FOX, fans in New York still get a CBS early game. This is probably because the network has no late game to show and would not get to show any sort of game.
