Around SBN: Tiger Woods, Tony Romo Grouped Together At Pebble Beach

Around the NFL: Touring Sports Blogs Nation

Remember when people actually used to like this guy and take him seriously?

This time of year, it's very easy to get wrapped up in what's going on with the Giants, but it's good to keep in mind that every team is also having their own injury scares, position battles, and breakout performances. Now that training camps have opened across the league, let's take a look at what some of our fellow SBN NFL blogs are talking about.

NFC East

  • One of the biggest stories of training camp so far this year has been the Albert Haynseworth saga going on at Redskins camp. For those of you unfamiliar, Big Al started complaining in the offseason that he wasn't happy with the way he was used last season, and didn't want to play in Mike Shanahan's 3-4 defense this year, so he sat out the whole offseason. When he finally showed up to camp, he failed the fitness test and wasn't allowed to participate, and has been unable to re-take the test due to a knee injury the past few days. According to Hogs Haven, Haynseworth is regressing. Good investment, Mr. Snyder...
  • Bleeding Green Nation says that the Eagles will be sad to see Brett Favre retire (more on that later).
  • Blogging the Boys breaks down what happens at a Cowboys practice session.

Star-divide

Rest of the NFL

  • Like a tornado in Kansas, we knew the Brett Favre thing was coming eventually, but when it did it came quick and left a trail of destruction. The Daily Norseman writes about what we've learned from "Favregeddon" (what a great term, btw). They also broke down what Favre means for the Vikings playoff chances, and determined that they should be a playoff team with or without him. Somehow I have to think that even with all his drama, they'd still rather take their chances with him than Tarvaris Jackson.
  • Canal Street Chronicles has shocking news: Jeremy Shockey is banged up again.
  • Field Gulls has a guide to wearing & caring for your football jerseys, which is applicable to all football fans.
  • Pride of Detroit passes along the news that first-round pick Ndamokung Suh arrived to camp in style and passed his conditioning test with flying colors. I have a feeling that Suh is going to be a dominant player for a long time.
  • I bet you thought if I linked to Cincy Jungle, it would be something about the reality TV wet dream of TO and Ochocinco being on the same team, but it's not. It's about expectations for Carson Palmer for this season.
  • Behind The Steel Curtain passes along news that Commissioner Goodell praised Ben Roethlisberger's actions so far during his suspension, and speculate that the suspension could be reduced to 4 games.
  • Battle Red Blog has an open thread to discuss Andre Johnson signing the largest wide receiver contract in the NFL.
  • Buffalo Rumblings looks back on the Bills career of recently released Aaron Schobel
  • The biggest story going on with our cross-town (cross-locker room?) neighbors, other than the city pre-emptively planning their pre-ordained Super Bowl Parade, is the Darrel Revis holdout. Gang Green Nation discusses whether giving Nick Mangold a contract could entice Revis back to camp.
  • Mile High Report has thoughts on the loss of last seasons NFL sack leader Elvis Dumervil & the signing of RB LenDale White.
  • Finally, The Falcoholic has a humorous "catch-up" with former Falcons QB Brett Favre. Apparently the Falcoholic is living in some kind of crazy, but awesome, alternate reality.

My favorite part

of the Shockey thing is the poll. He’s wearing on Saints fans just like he wore on Giants fans.

Actually

Most of the posts are very positive about him. He’s managed to play his way through most of his injuries as a Saint, unlike his time here, when he missed quite a few games to injury. And when you go 16-0 when he starts, a guy like Shock can grow on you.
He’s like a hot wife that is very high maintenance. They’ll both wear you down but make you happy at the same time

eh

i didn’t like that post about shockey, because his antics as a player aside, when is a player ever 100%? these guys deal with tweaks, pulls, strains and soreness all year long. the whole thing is a little silly.

by cntrlalt on Aug 6, 2010 4:56 AM EDT up reply actions

BTW

I voted “can’t stand him”. Just couldn’t help myself. LOL

HAHA

same. Though the helmetless rumble against the eagles is still one of the most manly/awesome things i’ve seen ever ..well in a Giants uniform anyway.

I hate Philadelphia so much.

Jersey Post

I was planning on getting a personalized jersey this year then I realized my last name is Carney and playing number was 15. I just know some jerkoff is going to have a wise-assed remark about how the # doesn’t match so I’m leaning against it. I’ve alreay got an Eli jersey, so I guess my question is what other player do you think is going to have the most longevity in the Giants organization? BTW I also own a Shockey jersey thats been hanging in my closet since he was exiled to NO.

Good pick

Steve Smith has the look of a guy who’s going to be around for a long time too. A consummate pro already, good team guy, stays healthy.

The smart money says... buy a Sinorice Moss jersey!!!

NYG management just refuses to admit a bad draft pick
and the guy will end his career as a GIANT

( unfortunately for you; even GIANTS fans will be laughing behind your back!!!)

i recently too got a jersey

Well a few months back when the giants online store had a fire sale on merchandise. I needed to replace my long standing M.Strahan jersey. Oh it was in good shape but he autographed in a month earlier and i was not going to be a d-bag and wear an autographed jersey to a bar/game.

So i got an Eli Jersey. Its my first offensive players jersey and i feel good about it. Eli bucks the trend of Armstead and Strahan jerseys before it.

Excited about Sept. Considering my Mets are GOD AWFUL :(

I hate Philadelphia so much.

I don't like the Cowboys or their fans

but BTB is the best football blog at SB Nation. The research they do for their posts is incredible.

hence the vomit

I was actually reading a detailed, informed run down of the Cowboys training camp….IDK what the hell got into me but it was gut wrenching.

by andiamo708 on Aug 5, 2010 6:02 PM EDT up reply actions

haha yea

BTB does outstanding work, even though they are pure evil for rooting for the Cowboys. Bleeding Green Nation is really good too – call me biased, but I think the NFC East blogs are amongst the best in all of SBN. I also generally enjoy the Colts, Steelers, Seahawks, and (oddly, my favorite besides BBV) the Browns blogs. I just really like the people who comment over at the Browns blog – they seem like good folk.

There are many of us...

Though I think most would like to see one of the Willingpawns, Omar and Jerry in Eagles uniforms as tackle practice for the Gaints defensive linemen.

yeah, it was weird growing up

when i could only talk to half of my friends about one sport and half about the other. basketball and hockey would have been equally as confusing (living in north jersey) except for the fact that i didnt really care about either. altho hockey is pretty sweet i admit.

i also like your signature, being mets/giants definitely amps up the philly hate.
