Giants Training Camp: Nicks 'Fine'

Pat Hanlon, New York Giants vice president of communications, just tweeted the word that Hakeem Nicks is "fine."

Here is what he said.

Hakeem Nicks is fine. MRIed last night in Albany, this AM in NYC at HSS and examined by Dr. Russ Warren. Everything checked out A-OK.

Now we just need to know how much practice time he will miss.

phew! but...

hyperextensions generally take what, 3-4 weeks to come back from? there goes all of training camp

by section_112 on Aug 4, 2010 2:18 PM EDT reply actions

Not 3-4 weeks

I had a hyperextended knee last yr. It only takes a week to recover from give or take a couple days. I missed one game he will be fine.plus hes not on crutches so it must not be a bad one either or he wouldnt be able to put weight on it .

right

and given how much wr/qb connections are on the field, he wont be tip top until 3rd-4th week. MAYBE.. who knows, hanlon saying it checked out A-OK maymean its just a little bruise not a hyperextension

by section_112 on Aug 4, 2010 2:19 PM EDT reply actions

no biggie.

Nicks most likely will be fine, after all he was damn good even while being banged up as a rook and probably not practicing much.

Hagan seems to be the “star” of camp so far and of course it could give Barden a shot.

Thats was can happen from a hyperextension...

bruised/strained muscle or tendon from being hyperextended

Toney does what the douglas do. And no one can do what he does b/c doing it without being Toney Douglas just doesnt make it do what it do

will likley be a great special teams guy. Nicks could be all world. Mosley thinks he can do 1200 and 12 tds. no way anyone thinks hagan does that

You and the rest of Giants nation. Hagan is this yrs Hixon, great on special teams( minus the returns) and efficient at receiver. I see him getting playing time early in a couple of blow out games. Barden will see the field inside the opponents 35 yrd. line. I see at least 4 td for Ramses.

Maclin’s status is pretty much exactly the same as Nicks. And Jackson was back out running today, although he didn’t participate in drills – He’s fine. (Knocking on wood) Good to see there haven’t been any major season-enders around the league yet.

I promise you nicks wont miss the opening game from this. Its a quick healer. And i do agree the 1st week id the most dangerous because players bodies are not in football shape yet.

by cjraymz56 on Aug 4, 2010 4:03 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

i'm concerned

about him staying on the field though. 2nd year and he has had multiple injuries. hes a big boy, he should be sturdier

by section_112 on Aug 4, 2010 4:07 PM EDT reply actions

I was thinking the same thing

He had a lingering hamstring issue out of college, was banged up last year, and now hurt in his first practice. No reason to be overly alarmed, but def a little concerned. But really happy it wasnt more serious.

Every Giant

It seems like every Giant that is drafted(especially at wideout) has hammy or groin issues in the first yr.Moss,Manningham, even Steve Smith was hurt his rookie yr.Plus you go back to the likes of Tim Carter and jamar Taylor.Hes over the hammy ,he played through the toe injury and I might add it didnt seem to effect him lol and this injury can happen to anyone, all it is is planting the wrong way i would be willing to bet 75 percent of football players have had this injury at some point in there career.Im not worried about it what so ever.

Trading manningham

Who ever said they should trade Manningham just doesnt know enough about the game.

by cjraymz56 on Aug 4, 2010 7:25 PM EDT reply actions

Manningham

Is a very good receiver but he doesn’t have the magic that Hakeem has. I think a he will be a special player in this league. If he can stay on the field and and in sync with Eli.

by section_112 on Aug 4, 2010 7:26 PM EDT reply actions

I know hes not Nicks

But Manningham is pretty darn good himself and is a key part to the Giants offense as well.Manningham is great at turning short passes into big gains or scores. If he solved the problem he had last yr with running his route to close to the sideline then teams need to watch for him as well.I also dont know to many number 3 corners or safeties in the league that can cover him.If the Giants running game gets back on track which if healthy i believe will happen this offense is going to be special with them wideouts.

by cjraymz56 on Aug 4, 2010 8:24 PM EDT reply actions

Trading Manningham

How can we say trading Manningham would have been such an awful idea…if it never happened and we have nothing to compare and contrast.

and another thing….do we have to lose 2 WR’s to IR before it’s THAT bad an idea???

Hypothetically, what if we dealt MM and DJ Ware and Jon Goff to the Texans for D. Ryans….would that have been an awful move?

I’m not an advocate for trading MM for a ham sandwich….but I did bring it up in regards to finding a stud MIKE….and I stand behind it.

by andiamo708 on Aug 4, 2010 8:28 PM EDT reply actions

weapons for Eli >>>>>>>>>>>>> """stud MLB"""

seeing that they’ll most likely be fine with Bulluck and whoever mans that in the future. You don’t need a star MLB (see: Pierce)

by FreeBradshaw on Aug 4, 2010 8:30 PM EDT up reply actions

but step back and look at the big picture

our offense was damn near great last year….our Defense was awful.

JR did a hell of a job to address the Defensive side of the ball, but prior to doing so, yes, i brought it up.

I just don’t see how a #3 WR > a stud starting MIKE….especially after the season we just had.

You don’t need a star MLB, you are right….but you don’t need a star #3 WR either…..

by andiamo708 on Aug 4, 2010 8:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Star #3 >>>>>>>>>>> Star MLB

sorry, giving Eli weapons is #1.

The defense is fine with an “average” MLB. Actually, the defense can beat the best offense in the history of the NFL with an average MLB.

So this “stud MLB” is not nearly as important as that. The D would be fine without it.

by FreeBradshaw on Aug 4, 2010 8:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Than I agree to disagree

lol, I simply can’t put a WR over a LB….I can’t.

by andiamo708 on Aug 4, 2010 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Why on Earth

would the Texans make that deal? It’s kind of a moot point, football philosophies aside.

We need more toilet paper, I'm taking my talents to South Beach.

by bigbluethruandthru on Aug 5, 2010 1:17 AM EDT up reply actions

and when did Eli become Tony Romo....lol

we’re already “Eli friendly” enough around here.

plus, he’s got his weapons….they’re sitting on the bench remember? lmao

by andiamo708 on Aug 4, 2010 8:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Romo?

Eli will never be a choke artist..who cares about Romo?

by FreeBradshaw on Aug 4, 2010 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm joking around about the "weapons for Eli" argument....

like we got to make our offense “Eli Friendly”…like when Dallas got rid of TO.

I just think Eli is a big boy….he’s got plenty of weapons….mabye he would appreciate it if his Defense could keep opposing Offenses under 40 points so he doesn’t have to go out and throw for 350+ yards every week.

by andiamo708 on Aug 4, 2010 8:43 PM EDT up reply actions

exactly

he’s got plenty of weapons. Since when do the Colts not replace someone when they go down? Do they ever trade their surplus of weapons?

LB’s are replaceable. WR’s, while also “replaceable”, if you have 3, potentially 4 guys who are starting caliber, you don’t trade them. Young talented WR are not a dime a dozen.

LB’s who can make tackles behind an elite DL are (see :Bulluck, Keith).

by FreeBradshaw on Aug 4, 2010 8:52 PM EDT up reply actions

like i said agree to disagreed

but using the colts is a bad example b/c I don’t think our offenses our comparable….they throw the ball over 60% of the time….and they have one of the greatest QB to ever play the game….they’re trying to “out score” you.

by andiamo708 on Aug 4, 2010 9:00 PM EDT up reply actions

wasn't trying to compare how prolific the O's are

its just that you don’t take away what makes you good.

by FreeBradshaw on Aug 4, 2010 9:31 PM EDT up reply actions

i still think

we’re just seeing the tip of the iceberg with both of them, Nicks and Manningham.

In an ideal world they both progress and start as the wides moving Smith back to the slot where, i believe he is best suited.

by Flynner on Aug 4, 2010 8:39 PM EDT up reply actions

that's fine. and I agree with you.....

but before Fewell, Rolle, Grant, JPP, Joseph (all our new Defensive acquisitions)

Would that have helped our defense? the fact that MM is on the tip of the iceberg?

Like I said, JR did a gread job of addressing the Defense so i’ve backed off that stance….and like i said above, i think we can win w/ an average MIKE….but as long as we have a lot ot talent surrounding him (up front, and behind)…..which IMO we do now.

by andiamo708 on Aug 4, 2010 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions

It was dumb then and still is sorry

Its just not smart seriously.Freebradshaw is right look at Pierce. He was undersized,no speed and he succeeded. Why would you trade away a really big piece of your offense for a player you dont even know can play a mike in a 4-3?

by cjraymz56 on Aug 4, 2010 8:34 PM EDT reply actions

ok....question than

D. Ryans straight up for Manningham

you would not do that?

Yes, it’s asinine b/c that would never happen, but if my idea is that dumb, than this question should be a no brainer for you.

by andiamo708 on Aug 4, 2010 8:36 PM EDT up reply actions

still no

I cant mover a player i know about for a player i dont know can handle a job or not.And im not saying Ryans cant handle it but if he couldnt which is possible some players just dont transition well. Also Flynner i agree they still will get better butttttttttt how can you say the guy who broke the team record for catches and yards in his first season be suited to another spot?

by cjraymz56 on Aug 4, 2010 8:44 PM EDT reply actions

than we too will agree to disagree

b/c I would take that deal and run all the way to the bank…..it’s not even close IMO.

yes, I’ll take away one of Eli’s weapons….that’s the price you pay.

by andiamo708 on Aug 4, 2010 8:51 PM EDT up reply actions

take away manningham and

You take away one of the weapons that helps win games. If you trade who replaces him?Barden only in the redzone and Hixon is out.

by cjraymz56 on Aug 4, 2010 8:47 PM EDT reply actions

i guess so then

I just cant do it and do not agree whats so ever with it.We have enough players around the mlb spot to play defense and make him look better. With a healthy line to take on blocks any mlb can make plays.

by cjraymz56 on Aug 4, 2010 9:00 PM EDT reply actions

there's nothing wrong with that

you know what i’m saying? It would not be fun if everyone shared the same ideas on this site….

I’m someone who values Defense very much…probably more than Offense. My favorite positions are always the ones on Defense; CB, DE, S….so i will say this, my opinions are skewed

by andiamo708 on Aug 4, 2010 9:10 PM EDT up reply actions
