Antonio Pierce and former Giants turned analysts

As I'm sure many of you know, Antonio Pierce is now an analyst for ESPN.  On NFL Live today, Pierce was asked who would win the division and he said the Washington Foreskins..I mean Redskins.  It seems like the Giants can't get any respect, even from their former players.  I remember a few seasons back Michael Strahan's pick for the Super Bowl was the Cowboys.  Now the question is, do you think Pierce and guys like Strahan do this on purpose just to keep the "we get no respect" angle going for the Giants?

He can't pick the Giants

its just not “right” for a former Giants player turned analyst to pick the GIants for anything, especially for the 4 letter word network.

If he was a former Cowpoke, Jets or Patriots player, it would be A-OK to go and pick that team.

He is a

former redskin too

that's true

but I’d think he respects the Giants more, given that he won a Bowl here and all.

by FreeBradshaw on Sep 1, 2010 5:02 PM EDT up reply actions

actually I used to work there

and you do indeed get fined for talking good about the Giants.

It works kinda like that scene in Demolition Man where Stallone keeps swearing to get demerits to wipe his ass. They actually have mics and sensors around the complex picking up on any and all positive Giants thoughts and statements, and demerits are issued for each infraction. Too many infractions and you’re let go, just like me… I lasted 14 minutes before I was escorted through the parking lot.

Just kidding, although I did work there, he would be accused of being a homer if he took the Giants right away

that being said

this will be gruden’s last year with ESPNBA. He just picked us to win the East.

Demolition Man reference

wow. But I have noticed that with all ex-players in all the major sports, don’t pick your former team or u will be ripped for it.

You're right Free

b/c Aikman seems to still LOVVEEEEE his cowboys … dunno what it is about the Giants

by IL DUCE 89 on Sep 1, 2010 7:35 PM EDT up reply actions

In fairness to strahan

He chose the Giants to represent the NFC in the superbow, and the cowboys to win it.

True but..

thats why I voted for option 3. I mean don’t get me wrong I love Strahan. He’s one of my favorite Giants ever, but its OK to give your former team some love once in a while.

by ddhamaka814 on Aug 31, 2010 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions

lol

you will have to ask Strahan as that was his prediction in 2008.

Paraphrasing (it was a few years ago)
the cowboys have too much talent on paper NOT to go to the super bowl. Of course that’s all on paper, but there isn’t a better team on paper

The first pick was the homer in him, the second using him brain.

New analysts probably go out of their way to dispel the notion that they are biased towards a former team. A technique Jaworski never felt necessary to employ.

When Gruden

called out Jaworski for being a eagle homer, I loved it. It left him speechless.

I think they are saying just what they think

The Giants have not shown ANY signs that they will be any better than the Redskins this year.

by mclaren_is_the_best on Aug 31, 2010 10:19 PM EDT reply actions

WHOA!!!

The Giants don’t need to show any signs that they are better than the Redskins because the Redskins are going to prove that point for us.

At least someone on ESPN has confidence in us

Jon Gruden picked the G-MEN as his sleeper NFC team, and picked us to win the East.
For the question I picked #2. I think Strahan & Barber have given their honest opinion and Pierce will do the same. I’m glad their not super biased like Jaws, Emmit Smith and Lou Holtz.

by dpl917 on Sep 1, 2010 12:10 AM EDT reply actions

I don't think that the Giants are really a "sleeper."

Pretty much contenders every year… rebound team maybe considering last season.

A good sleeper would be… um… the Browns.

I do enjoy Gruden though, especially if he’s raggin on Jaworski.

Just wanted to point out Antonio Pierce was with the Skins first.

So perhaps he is still partial to his former team.

I agree with XLII

I couldn’t believe, after watching that great Pats/Colts game where BB went for the win for a yard on offense, that Rodney Harrison ( ~ Thanks for the inadequate pass defensed, Rod ~ ) torched his former coach in post-game. I think these players, most of whom are pretty dumb, believe that they’ll get instant credibility by shitting on the people who made them. Tedy Bruschi did the same thing. It’s moronic.
Honestly, put the BS aside and just hire two guys, each blatantly for one team playing. It’s more honest and fair — plus, Buck and Aikman suck.

You play to win the game!

by Simms-McConkey on Sep 1, 2010 8:23 AM EDT reply actions

truth be told

many times while they play they don’t believe their on the best team. They always say the right thing, like we are talented and can win but know th e truth

Th eGiants are th etype of team that on paper you don’t pick but when they play th egame they seem to be able to win some. in the playoffs they are a dangerous team but I don’t think they are the type of team to have the best record or even a playoff bye

Any task BIG or small, Do it well or not at all
