Plax denied work appeal again!!!!

http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/news/story?id=5517027

This is just rediculous can somebody give this man a break already?  Now they are saying he won't be released early at all and needs to serve the full sentence which does not end until June of 2011...  Really???? Does he deserve another 10 months of jail time for this? He didn't hurt anybody but himself let the poor guy out already!!!

the worst part is...

Dante Stallworth is the NFL WR who is out in public doing whatever he want.

I know.

That’s why it hard to take Plaxico’s incarceration seriously.

He was made an example of; Mayor Bloomberg basically legislated it as such. It’s a real shame.

yeah

I think its about time. In Sept it will be a year, thats long enough. Put him on probation and let him get his life in order.

True...

He could have very easily shot someone else. I do find it a bit strange that he is going to be serving almost all of his sentence but we might be missing something regarding his behavior inside.

all i hear is a bunch of ifs

if he shot someone else everyone says this… the point is he didn’t shoot anyone else he was stupid he carried a gun it went off hit him in his thigh thats the end of this story let the man back out of jail already. By the way they say his behavior has no impact on this decision and they say he once fooled a guard into letting him call his lawyer and something like that.

by bdasilva7785 on Aug 31, 2010 9:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Why then?

Why is he still in prison? He will not be able to apply for WR until next June, right? He will have served most of his sentence by then. You would think that he would be paroled at that time and not put into a work release program.

They have to take into account the he is a professional athlete. I’m not saying that he will be worthless in June by another 9 months is another 9 months away from football. They aren’t just locking him up…they are preventing him from playing when he is still in his prime. Suspend the remainder of his sentence !!

He was carrying a gun

without a permit.

Whether you agree with the law or not, he broke it. Ergo, he must do the time.

here's one more if

IF he wasn’t a NFL WR for the NY Giants, you wouldn’t care how long he spent in jail…lots of people get charged with this crime, and do the same amount of time. It is what it is with Plax. If he’d have gotten off light, you’d hear people talking about celebrity justice.

you're right...sadly

"Osi said he's going to London to see the Eiffel Tower."

by nywins42 on Sep 3, 2010 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Sorry but he's an idiot.

I loved Plax and to an extent still do… but he made a really stupid decision. First of all, the guy has $, hire a friggin bodyguard. Second, when it comes to a gun going off in a public place, it is completely about the “what ifs”

What if he had shot Pierce in the face by accident? then what?

If he was just busted having it without having it registered in NY, then OK, a big fine and a polite “please don’t bring your unlicensed gun out in public again Plax” would do.

Unfortunately for him and us, that’s not what happened. Someone coud have gotten killed and it would have been his fault. It sucked and it sucks that he is in prison, but Stallworth should be locked up too, he’s actually a murderer.

I know he’s being made an example of but what are they supposed to do?

Bottom Line: When in NY -
Have some sense and use a holster when packing in a nightclub.

by LoNJDTechnology on Sep 1, 2010 4:18 PM EDT up reply actions

I wish he would get out

But, yes…he was asking for it. He brought it with him, loaded (don’t know why you wouldn’t have it loaded though), had the safety disengaged, and carried it with so little care that he dropped it and shot himself. It sounds like he WAS definitely asking for it.

Interestingly…Cromartie isn’t shooting blanks while never using the safety. Too bad he isn’t just shooting himself in the leg…the collateral damage is apparently quite extensive but the numbers are still pretty hazy.

Agreed. 1 year in prison is enough for being an idiot. I can think of far more heinous human beings currently playing in the NFL that got off easy considering the circumstances surrounding their conviction.

Plax

I generally supported what the Manhattan DA and company did re Plax but the lady justice holds both the sword and the scale. It’s time he gets a little bit of the scale.

by DoctorK16 on Sep 1, 2010 11:40 AM EDT reply actions

Bloombergs fault

the guys an out of touch a-hole who wanted to make an example of a professional athlete to show everyone how tough a guy he is and how no-bullsh*t he is… its a political move and hes screwing a good guy.. i think its BS he went to jail in the first place. criminals with real illegal guns are everywhere in the streets of NYC, but Plax is in jail for 3 years for carrying a legal, registered (i know it expired) gun.

if plax was a normal everyday guy, he woulda been out in 6 months.

by Plaxico Burress on Sep 1, 2010 12:36 PM EDT reply actions

Well

Part of the reason Bloomberg wanted to do this is “criminals with real illegal guns are everywhere in the streets of NYC”. Bloomberg goal is to put an end to that, and if a moronic 6
5" gazillionare athlete wanted to paint a bulleye on his back, Bloomy, the DA and co. was going to show that they were going to be tough with everyone. I supported that action. With that said I think the point has been made and a bit of mercy would be in order here given the facts of the case.

you're absolutely right

still think its BS… the only reason bloomberg even got involved was because its so high profile… 100% political move by the mayor. if it was some average shmoe, bloomberg wouldnt have even knew about it and the guy would have been out in no time.

big time news means bloom needs to stick his face in there for political points. politics are keeping plax in jail.. not the law

just like Big Ben compared to Vick

Ben is out for 4-6 games, Vick got out of jail and got 2 games

Plax shouldn’t have gone to jail, he should have gotten some sort of public service thing and probation, he was just a knucklehead, not a criminal

Any task BIG or small, Do it well or not at all

rape = 4 game NFL suspension, no jail, no probation, no civil service, no fines

killing a man with your car while drunk = 1 year NFL suspension, no jail time

killing some dogs = 2 years prison

being an idiot and hurting no one but yourself = 3 years prison

i dont really understand “justice” anymore

by Plaxico Burress on Sep 1, 2010 3:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Your taking it all of circumstance

If plax got caught in Florida, he wouldn’t have had as large a prison time because the laws of florida are a joke.

Stallworth’s case was open because the person he killed put himself in a bad situation where he shouldn’t have been crossing the street there. Also, Stallworth had a settlement were the family got a lot of money which considering the father died, is more useful to the family. Also, it was in florida, and once again, florida laws are a joke.

Vick broke Federal Laws in addition to local laws. He wasn’t busted on only dog fighting.

Also the way you phrased Plax’s reasons for going to jail is wrong. It is not a case of

being an idiot and hurting no one but yourself = 3 years prison

Its a case that the gun laws of New York City, the strictest in the country, were broken.
Plax was given plenty of chances to not get as long of a sentence, but he refused all of them. Plax and only plax is responsible for being in jail such a long time.

plax was always my favorite giant from the day he was first signed.. met the guy, had dinner at a mutual friends house with him.. hes just a guy i have a lot of repect and admiration for.. just think he is getting treated very very unfairly because of how high profile he is

because of how strict NYC wants its gun laws to be… i said it before but i just truely feel he’s a victim of politics and its a shame

he is being made an example of, and it stinks

but Burress also set himself up for this.

He was also acting like a fool leading up this. How many times did he get suspended by the Giants that same season before he shot himself?

yea he was being a douche all year

besides drawing double coverage every play, he really didnt do much that year either.. he absoluetly needed a time out.. but a 3 year time out is getting to be a bit much.. let the guy do his job before he cant anymore.. and hes getting reaaallll close to not being able

Yeah

plus, I thought Goodell was very firm and fair with Michael Vick, who had lied to his face.

And as much as Big Ben disgusts me, he was never convicted of rape…and he was still rightfully suspended by Goodell.
