Tuesday Afternoon Twitter Talk

Yes, I have been reduced to this. I'm sitting here watching the New York Giants news flash by via Twitter this afternoon. So, might as well share.

Here are some of your afternoon 'twit-lights,' from various folks.

That's enough. I hate myself for this report enough already.

Same ol' story

I’m getting a little irittated with all these injuries

by nicksdafuture on Aug 24, 2010 4:01 PM EDT reply actions

Injuries

I’m just going to stop worrying every time a guy misses one day of practice. Half the problem, I think, is the wealth of information we have at our fingertips. Football has always been like this, i think, and we just didn’t know. All we knew was whether or not the guy showed up on Sunday, and that really is all that is important.

+1

not to mention the only news of note in the preseason is injuries, there is no monday morning quarterbacking to be done so this is what we all talk about

kudos

on that same note kudos to Ed for giving us 3 posts a day on days when nothing happened

by Flynner on Aug 24, 2010 4:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Nothing happened...

but his posts gave us plenty to talk about.

I've been bamboozled

I’m very disappointed in Clint Sintim. It’s taken just two preseason games for the Giants to bump him out of the lineup. This entire time we thought Bulluck was here to play the middle. Maybe he was brought in to play for Sintim all along. I’m going to be really pissed off if this kid doesn’t get it together. He’s too talented to be a scrub.

Bulluck

Coughlin mentioned when they first signed him that he could play in or out. Fact is it seems the Giants like what they have seen of Goff more than Sintim thus far.

by Ed Valentine on Aug 24, 2010 4:28 PM EDT up reply actions

"...too talented..."

Particularly when they seem to want to use Bulluck to fill the weakest spot. They seem to prefer Goff to Sintim. Who would have thought?

by blue gonz on Aug 24, 2010 4:37 PM EDT up reply actions

maybe its gonna be true...

but how’s about week 1 rolls bye and if Sintim isn’t the starter by then…OK.

Bulluck at SLB only seems like they’’re experimenting just like with Kiwi

by FreeBradshaw on Aug 24, 2010 5:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Not an experiment

Coughlin admitted as much during his post-practice presser.

by Ed Valentine on Aug 24, 2010 5:27 PM EDT up reply actions

information?!?!?!

fill us in….or was that the extent of it?

by andiamo708 on Aug 24, 2010 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Well ...

Not really an experiment … at least, I don’t see it as such since he is taking first-team reps there.

So I guess it's true than...

earlier today at work I was just thinking it was being over blown…but even Giants.com talking about it.

I’m wondering if this unofficial switch from SAM to WILL and vice versa is having any impact on this decision. I mean, I knew it would be tough to go from a 3-4 OLB who basically played with 1 hand in the ground to a 3-4 SAM….but when you think about it, they’re now asking him to be a WILL….and maybe in Fewells’ Defense the difference is not as noticable, but to me it’s an even bigger transition for Sintim.

IDK…just throwing it out there….

by andiamo708 on Aug 24, 2010 10:29 PM EDT up reply actions

from the article....
Roughly three weeks into training camp, the Giants are experimenting with Bulluck as an outside linebacker and leaving the middle to third-year pro Jonathan Goff.

Seems they’re just getting looks at all the LB’s at all 3 spots. The article also says that Bulluck played on other side of the line to the TE in Tennessee, so that’s SLB at least with the GIants.

Still Waiting...

Can’t wait for the season to start and I have to thank god for little injury reports like this to get me through the week. 3rd preseason game – starters play!

I can do without the Twitter updates Ed...

We’re too on this site for this Ed, besides many of us have other links to Vacciano and Garafalo et al.

All the speculation makes me wanna tune out. Watching and dissecting a game is one thing trying to speculate on coaching moves and practice formations is a bit much for me, I’m more meat and tatos guy.

Ross hurt already!!!

What is it with Ross? Talk about injury proned every time I start hoping things are looking up with him I read some article where he’s injured. I just hope this isn’t like his hamstring injury last year I figured that injury would run into this year it took so long to heal.

by Daren L on Aug 24, 2010 5:20 PM EDT reply actions

Ross has that Plantar F crap like Eli had..

He’s going to be in big trouble with it given he has to back-pedal, cover and run his butt off..up and down the field..Where are these guys getting that from?..Are they playing with each other in the locker room or shower too much?..Is it contagious?

Being right sucks sometimes

I put up a fan post about being worried about the SAM position pre draft noting that I hadn’t seen anything out of Sintim to impress me and there didn’t appear to be any competition lined up or any fallback plan. People wanted to jump all over me for daring believe Sintim wouldn’t wow and amaze this year. Sorry, but the kid has done nothing amazing, now appears to be loosing the job he was handed uncontested, and isn’t even showing any fight to hold onto it. I was right to be worried about SAM, and now because we did nothing about it we are having to use our Mike bandaid to fix our SAM, leaving us with a hole still at Mike.

You're not right yet

Last year the young WRs were dropping passes all throughout the preseason. Everyone was bashing Reese for not getting a proven WR. Come Week 1 and they looked fine. Come Week 2 and they look like stars.

There’s concern because Sintim’s not a proven thing and he hasn’t wowed anyone yet. However, the preseason isn’t enough for me to panic. Sintim improved his play in the 2nd game. I’m looking for him to continue on that path in the 3rd game. Regardless, as the WRs showed last year, it’s the regular season that matters.

you don't have to do something "amazing" to win the spot

like Toney Sparks says, you ain’t right yet either. Its halfway through the preseason….long way to go before the games even matter.

by FreeBradshaw on Aug 25, 2010 6:29 AM EDT up reply actions

You don't have to be amazing

But you can’t be bad. Sintim has been bad thus far at LB. I’m right to be worried and to have been worried about our LB core. By half way through preseason you should have a lot more understanding of who the starting squad is and hopefully some confidence in them. Don’t give me is long time till it matters garbage. Read the article Ed posted above. I’d love to see Sintim say he is going to go out there and compete for his spot. Instead he says he’s happy he has been replaced by Bulluck because now he can ride the bench and learn from him. Having humility is good, having no fight in you is bad. You have to be willing to accept whatever role makes the team best but still fight for the chance that you being on the field is what makes the team best. Thank you, however, to you and GD for proving my point about some of the unfounded love that Sintim gets on here and the heat any gets for bringing things back to earth.

hey Ed

didn’t Antrel Roll have Plantar Fasciitis last year? he had a great season even with the bad foot. i think Aaron Ross is determined to stay on the field this season after missing almost all of last year.

by big louie on Aug 24, 2010 11:05 PM EDT reply actions

sorry

if TT gets the starting CB spot over ROSS then he will most likely be playing the nickle spot. if thats the case then he won’t be on the field as much. i would still rather have a not so healthy Ross playing the nickle than a healthy Bruce and DJ Johnson

by big louie on Aug 24, 2010 11:19 PM EDT reply actions

at this rate who's to say if Ross will even be able to play?

I hope so, but a foot injury for a DB is not a good thing

at this rate, DJ Johnson is looking like he won’t even make the team. Bruce Johnson did it last year but still, you rather have Ross.

But also, remember, if KP can play, it’s possible we see Grant or even Rolle doing that. I’m not saying that’s going to happen, but if you want to get your best players on the field….

by andiamo708 on Aug 24, 2010 11:22 PM EDT up reply actions

i think

with Roll,Grant, and KP playing you could get away with Ross in their. all them guys no what to do and could cover a lot of ground

From MG:
WR Mario Manningham settled into a zone on an in cut during 7-on-7s. Manning threw a dart in his direction but it seemed he had trouble with the ball. It might have been because a reaching CB Terrell Thomas got a hand on it. I was behind Manningham so it was tough to see if he came down with the ball as he fell forward. Either way, offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride seemed very pleased with Manningham’s read and route.

That reminds of the play against the Steelers when Bomar overthrew Manningham for an INT. Just like that game, Manningham read the defense and sat in the zone. Maybe he’’s finally committed to studying the playbook. Defenses beware.

I would love to see him and Eli get more chemistry

outside those simply quick slants (which of course our opponents all know about…and when they’re coming). Hit the kid in stride for heaven sakes.

by andiamo708 on Aug 24, 2010 11:59 PM EDT up reply actions

True

It seems to be the only play they have for him. How about some sluggo routes or a deep post? When you’re as fast as Manningham is, you can get CBs to bite on your first move. They are worried about keeping up so they cheat a little.

next year

move Clint Sintim to DE and let Kiwi walk. Sintim is better as a 3 4 linebacker and probably will never excel in a 4 3 defence. Rex Ryan is a great defensive coach and is moving Veron Golstin to DE because he sucks at linebacker. At DE you don’t have to cover anyone you just have to stop the run and get after the QB and Sintim is good at both.

by big louie on Aug 25, 2010 12:05 AM EDT reply actions

Clint Sintim and Gholston...

…are two reasons I’m always so damn hesitant on drafting 3-4 rush linebackers. They never seem to do all that great.

by Jonathan. on Aug 25, 2010 12:27 AM EDT reply actions

Gholston was actually a 4-3 DE

the Jets were the ones that moved him to rush OLB. Just like the Giants moved rush LB Sintim to SLB.

And how about he has his sophmore season before he’s considered a bust? HE was injured last year, not bad…injured. Difference.

by FreeBradshaw on Aug 25, 2010 6:31 AM EDT up reply actions

remember last preseason

Sintim was playin DE and made a bunch of plays, i know it was just preseason but its preseason now and he isn’t really doin much at linebacker.instead of just throwing away a 2nd round draft pick they should at least try and move the guy around
