Ryan Says He Might Extend Jets Starters
OK, so I said I wasn't going to write for the rest of the day. But, I have to do something between now and later on when the wife takes me out to dinner. So, I'll spend some time keeping you guys occupied.
Really, I just wanted to make sure you guys noticed what Jets coach Rex Ryan said today about Monday's preseason opener against the Giants. When asked how much his starters would play, Sexy Rexy said "we may extend them a little bit."
This is the kind of position Ryan's bluster about being the biggest show in town has put his team in. Whether he will admit it or not, he has to go to an undesirable length to try and win Monday night's game.
Even though my good buddy JohnB over from Gang Green Nation indicated otherwise when he appeared on 'New York Giants Talk' Thursday night, it appears that the outcome of the game does indeed have some importance to the team in green.

You're the man Ed.....
We should have known something like a 50th birthday wouldn’t keep you from writing, way to go. As far as Sexy Rexy, it’s the first preseason game and you don’t want to play with fire by extending the starters time in a practice game. I hope that TC will take the opposite approach and give our starters 2 series at best. A major injury to a key starter in August could have an outcome on who plays in Febuary.
sounds like
Rex is spewing trash. Who really cares about any preseason games let alone the first? How much home town pride can someone take if your opponent only plays the starters for 2 or 3 series?

importance to the team in green?
or the green team’s coach? IMO it’s just Rex being Rex. I’d be surprised if his starters are in for more than 2 or 3 series. It wouldn’t surprise me if he kept Sanchize in longer.

Okay Jets fans, lets be honest.
Everything that the NY Jets organization does is gauged by what the NY Giants do and how well we do it. In your quest to “win it all” you have realized that the first hump that you have to get over are the NY Giants. For the most part of the Jets’ history, you have lived in the shadow of the Giants. You have been the tissue that we wiped our behinds with after we (you know what.) You have been the little man of NY football. The ones who wished that they could be like us.
Now, you get a new coach. You get a couple of “good” players and now you are suddenly the NY team to beat. I think not. This Monday night football game will be more important then many Jets and Giants fans think. However, this importance is only significant for the Jets because now you have to backup the trash that has been spoken on your part. Even if you win Monday, you still have to do it in the regular season and I don’t think that that will be easy.
So talk the talk but I hope the Jets are able to walk the walk because, if not; then you will not only continue to be the laughing-stock of NY but you will also add to this reputation with your inability to be the team that we already are.

I hope he does play his starters
longer. It would give TC the opportunity to better evaluate his second and third string players if they are working against a team’s starters. If he keeps Sanchez in then he would be forced to protect him with the starting O-line, I would think. Good time to see what JPP and Joseph, among others can do against starting talent.

That would be great
The Jets have a very good O-line and I’d like to see the young D-linemen go against them. I’d also like to see our O-line go against a pressure defense.

Who cares about who wins?
Pre season not about winning. it is about getting some game time, tuning up and testing the unknowns. I’d rather see the 2nd and 3rd guys in there a vast majority of time to see what they can do. Drives me crazy during the reg season when we are way ahead or hopelessly behind and all we see is 1st stringers. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb. Get the starters out to protect them and give the other guys a chance to prove themselves and get some game time. Funny question is who will play TE after the BEAR? Taylor? HaHa.

Taylor, maybe
Or maybe the Giants will just go four wide and play without one.

I think that is what the Giants should do.
Its not like they don’t have the personnel for it.

I read a report yesterday
that said they would play 4- and 5-WR sets. The TE position will get very few looks.

TC said it'll only be Bear
so the likely possibility of no TE sets or Tackles as eligible receivers (of course no passes to them – just need to lineup and block) can be utilized.

Personally
I am not concerned if that young linebacker plays TE at this point, just get some reps., and
TRY to get healthy before the season starts, that is what I think about exhibition games.

Sounds like Ryan has been watching Jerry the Gerbil and the Mets...
pointlessly extending and pushing players in situations where there’s nothing to be gained, and placing them in greater injury danger. I hope TC doesn’t take the bait, and lets Rex play his starters as long as he wants, but gets ours out of harm’s way. I admire the decision to play all out against New England in the regular season prior to our Super Bowl run, but in that case there was something to gain, momentum and confidence, and I think it paid off in spades. But for a first preseason game, let Rex have his glory and the danger that goes with it.
Thank you Rex
its always enjoyable to listen to Jets fans brag about winning these preseason games, so if they do that…lol.
And it lets people like Barden, Beckum, Goff, Dillard, JPP, Joseph and Alford all time to get reps against a first team D.
Do what you gotta do Rex. Just make sure D-Brick and that OL are up to the task. We gots some DE’s who want to fight for snaps and they may just have Sanchez on the menu.
Hopefully he extends them...
…and then some serious injuries set in.
How can anyone stand this buffoon?
Ed, that's what you get for being a Die-Hard :)

Beating the Giants is like winning a superbowl for the Jets! LOL. How amusing!
