'Over & Under': A Little Game To Pass The Time As Giants' Camp Approaches
As training camp draws ever closer, let's play a little 'Over & Under' game. I will toss out a player's name, along with a statistical number. You tell me if you think the player will end the season over or under the number I give you.
Let's start with Brandon Jacobs. The big fella followed two 1,000-yard seasons with a sub-par 835-yard effort in 2009. What should we expect this season?
I will put the Over/Under for Jacobs at 900 yards. I'm taking the 'Under.' How about you?

Over. I think he'll have his most yards in a season this year.
He, along with the rest of the team are gonna have a chip on their shoulder.

Being a New York Football Giants fan or a player is not a label but it is a calling!

He is the type that seems to always get injured, and it remains to be seen if the poor line play from last year was an aberration, not a slide along with the norm.
Over
Last year everybody thought he was a beast, he got hurt week 1 or 2 now everybody is down on him. I think he’ll do just fine 1200+

Anyone watch the Minn. beat up Romo yesterday?
Always get warm fuzzies watching the Cowboys explode.
Pardon the off topic.
Conan!, What is good in Football?!
Daa.... to run between the tackles,
To drive the linebackers before you,
And to hear the lamentations of the cheerleaders.
who would have thunk?
another malcontent on the Cowboys. They’re clearly an organization that goes with talent over character.
Under.
But close to the mark. I have been one of the hardest of Brandon, but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He was said to be injured last year and this injury hampered his ability to perform at optimal level. If this truely was the case, then Brandon is set to prove that he is the same runner that we saw in 07 & 08. Punishment and destruction of the opposition will be his only mission. Bodies will once again fly all over the field. That said, my answer is under but extremely close to the mark is what I will give him and if he exceeds that then I will be glad that he proved me wrong.

Too many inponderables at this early stage to make this more than a guess. Later, it morphs to a more judicious guess. He had a slight tear, so his knee should be fine. Outside of Osi, he received the most criticism last year. If he has any fire in his belly at all, he should be eager to prove his critics wrong. The O line looks like it will be realigned, which provides a reasonable basis for anticipating better performance from that unit.

I think Jacobs is in for 1200+ yards and 8 TD. I think he’s going to play with a huge chip on his shoulder this season.

I’m with a lot of the other guys who’ve already posted – I think Jacobs and the whole O-line have got something to prove both to the media and themselves. And Coughlin has stated over the off-season that he wants to get back to ‘Giants’ football and you’d assume Jacobs would play a big part in that…so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him have his best season – yardarge wise at least…
Over I think
but I believe a better measure will be his yards per carry, which I think will definitely be better this year. Which leads me to a question. What is an acceptable yards per carry for someone like Jacobs?
over 4 definitely
tho remarkably he’s averaged 5yd/carry in his 2 previous years at starter. I’d say more like 4.3-4.5 is reasonable if you expect him to have a bounce back year.
But if he’s under 4 again, it’ll be like last year.
Of course, if he’s at 5 again, we got the Juggernaut back.

His 835 yards last year were not what we have come to expect from him, but he was hurt ( as he always seems to be at some time during the season ), and that total is not too far from 1000, just two good games. With him hopefully having something to prove ( criticism and being over paid / over hyped ) and the Giants using him as their main rushing weapon, he should go easily over.
Unless, always of course, he gets hurt early.

I think a healthy Bradshaw will take away too many carries in the second half of games.
We don't play for the wild card around here kid
That would be great
and I hope it happens. But while we are still a run-first team, there are also a lot more passing options than 2008 and that will also take some run snaps away I think.
We don't play for the wild card around here kid
Under...
He’ll have a higher average per carry, but fewer carries.
@900

IMO one of the reasons for he off-year was injuries on the o-line. With continued improvement from the WRs it should aid the running game.
Under
Healthy Bradshaw + Pass Happy Gilbride = Under 900 yards for BJ.

If Jacobs can stay healthy along with a healthy O-line and recievers that keep the opposing safties honest I think Jacobs will go over 1,000yds.
Please stop the madness, enough with the vuvuzelas already! I swear to God if I start hearing those things at Giant's games there will be violence!
It depends
I know, i’m going to get slapped for that. But don’t we have to predict what the offensive line will do? I think it will be close barring injury 800-1000 but it all depends on the OL in my opinion. We know BJ has the heart, the wheels are a bit questionable as it the technique. The WR core will be great, so run will be more support for the passing game in my opinion. With such fluff answers, I should be a politician.

I’ve got a feeling that Bradshaw almost doubles that in all purpose yards though. Wishful thinking, no? If that does happen though that’s at least 12 wins.
Instead of being Over / Under 900
it should be Healthy / Injured for 16 games
If Jacobs plays a healthy 16 IMO he breaks 1000 / Yards.
If he doesn’t….. who’s telling what he puts up.

That's too easy
Jacobs never plays a full 16 … so, that really isn’t even a question worth asking.

Sorry
maybe I shoulda said 15 games….
I guess I just feel like if Jacobs is overall “healthy”….he’ll get there.
If not, he won’t.
bumps and bruises obviously don’t count b/c everyone plays through that….

but i think bradshaw will get more yards

And he will play every game – including the playoffs

Bradshaw takes over as the primary back. Offense enjoyed too much success in the passing game last year and Bradshaw out of the backfield works for me much better than a screen to Jacobs.
With more passing we’ll only have room for one 1000yrd rusher.
Don’t get me wrong Jacobs still has a big role to fill on this team, there is plenty to be said for wearing a defense down and pounding people with a RB bigger than most LB’s but i think the majority of our offensive sets will feature Bradshaw by mid season.

if it were jacobs OR bradshaw it’d be easy call. but i think BJakes is still the man for this season.
HELLO HELLO MR WILPON... BUY THAT MANSION. WE DONT NEED A CONDO.
Over...
but not by much…Between Ahmad Bradshaw and Andre Brown, Jacobs carries may be reduced given some of his previous injuries. Additionally, I think opponents have figured out how to tackle him and given the fact that he is an upright runner, I think he is going to have a challenging year ahead of him. That said, I do think he has a chip on his shoulder and I think he is going to start off very strong.
Over
The biggest difference maker, imo? Not Bradshaw or Brown. Not the o-line. Not BJake’s health (I’m talking nicks and scrapes, not IR).
The Defense. The Giants’ D should be capable of keeping down the score, so there’d be less need for a pass happy offense. 5 yards and a cloud of dust!
Hope you are right.
More than what anyone else has said I hope you are.

I think that AB will be taking a bigger role this season and establish himself as a top running back
2010 is the year of the Giants!

We’ll be a running team despite that every fan, analysit, and journalist is saying otherwise. AB too 800-900 yards
