Your thought's (honest) for the upcoming season.
Since we are about 2 weeks away from training camp and football fever is starting to spread like wildfire, I just wanted to get some thoughts from everyone on the upcoming season. I know we would all like to say the G-Men are going to be 16-0 but in reality that's not likely to happen.
I think a strong 11-5 record is possible and we should make the playoff's, we need to start strong and win division games as they are for the most part bunched together in the second half of the season.
what is eveeyone's throught's?

Tell me who's still walking and able to play after the last preseason game...
and I’ll have a reasonable prediction. Anything this early is just filling in time.
Good point
Let’s see if the walking wounded can stay healthy?

I am feeling another 8-8
or maybe a 9-7. Too many games early might be blown off by an adjusting defense (remember the 07 season and how disorganized the D was then?). Still not sold on the running game getting back to where t was, so that will not help matters either.
9 or 10 wins...
and a slew of hair greying losses. I think we sneak into the playoffs, but A LOT hinges on whether the gmen have been able to outpace at least 2 of the other teams in our division on the improvement front. It is going to be pretty tough to disgrace the cowboys twice this year.

I always predict 8-8
cuz they’re the NY f’ing Giants.
That said…I’ll be surprised if they do go 8-8, and lets remember that the giants needed an epic meltdown of EPIC proportions to go 8-8 last year.
Bye, Lee :(
no they didnt
they just needed to play a team that WASN"T in the bottm 5 of the NFL
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
excellent point Joe!
couldn’t agree with you more on that.

Oh, come on, that's unfair...
Saying that to an Eagle fan that’s still hurting from the 3-0…
Arnold, almost 5 years of good memories, you'll be missed.
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
I'm thinking below 0.500
The running game and the LBs are what makes me believe that we won’t make it to the POs.
10-6
win the wildcard.. beat the cowboys in the first round of playoffs
cmon guys theres a lot of pessimism here.. remember 2008 how dominant the gents were.. and how unstoppable they were the first 5 games of last year. like free said they needed an epic meltdown to go 8-8. Sheridan, the prime cause of the epic meltdown, is gone. i think this tam will be back to 2008 form this year.. cept this time our best receiveer wont shoot himself and screw the whole season over.

10-6
The running game will be good not great, the passing game will be very good or great, our DB’s will be solid but not awesome, and our LB’s will be as good as the D-line allows them to be. Oh and O-line will be stronger and better
10-6
Wildcard….Superbowl.

jeez everyone, debbie downer much!
I see 11-12 wins, we are better team than last year. Receivers are a year more experienced, new proven defensive coordinator. Additions to the defense, the only question is the lineback positition. But that was suspect last year, and our safety position is reinforced this year. Like it was said above, we melted down lost a ton of guys to injury and still finished 8-8. Alot of teams would love to “meltdown” and finish 500.
Too soon to tell
Cranky is right….wait until the last game of Pre Season.
HOWEVER….i can venture a guess.
11 wins and make the playoffs.

I'm sorry but I'll lose it if this team finished below .500
Fortunately I don’t see that happening!!

10-6
And thats assuming the typical couple lost bodies due to injuries. If they stay healthy, they have too much talent to not do even better.
Charlie: I'll just regress, because I feel I've made myself perfectly redundant.
+1
Jeez – lot of negativity ‘round here! Does no one remember how good the offense looked? Sure, we probably didn’t fix our Linebacker Problem, but we duct-taped over the safety position nicely. We don’t give up a couple of those late-game 3rd-and-22’s and we’re right there at 10-6, maybe 11-5 easy.
I left my swagger in my other pants.
Hope for the best
I always do, and feel that what the Giants have done must be for the best, but before even the exhibition games start that is only tunnel vision. We hope the changes work and the parts go together, but we don’t base it on much more than the perceptions and observations of others. The coaches see how well the players and their schemes work in practice, but have to see both in action against a real practice foe to make any valid choices and decide who will play during the real season.
I think the defensive coordinator is the biggest unknown concerning last years biggest need, even though he has a track record with other teams. I still miss Steve Spagnoulo, who was unknown to all but a few and stumbled at first, but won the confidence of the defense and came up with innovative schemes that best used their talents and kept other teams off balance. I hope Fewell can do as well, and use the veterans and rookies that he has helped chose. I hope all of the defensive players will recognize their talents and their rolls, work within them and play hard, no matter who is there at the first snap or how often they are on the field.
I hope that the offensive coordinator can do a better job of using the talents that he has, namely the tight end and running plays straight into the line without dancing behind it. There are so many plays that other teams make look easy against the Giants, but we always need to grind it out against them before relying on a big pass or penalty. Looking at the film, other teams have to be have equivalent weaknesses that can be exploited.
Every few years some team puts it all together for one year, and then recedes back down into the pack. I thought that was the case with the Giants in 2007, but then, praise the football, we came back even BETTER in 2008 until Burress shot himself. Even then, we could have gotten over it, the way we did against Seattle in the earlier game he was suspended and not missed, but we didn’t.
Then in 2009 the receiving corps, our “one weak point”, gets a big makeover and we start out strong again. Even though it was against weaker opponents, that was the schedule we had to play. Then New Orleans exposed our secondary, other teams found other defensive weaknesses, and we faded away. I saw another aspect in last years final two games, that as our defense was getting blown out, our offense couldn’t come close to keeping up. We were doing well early against Carolina until a touchdown got called back ( and I think another play went bad also ), and then we just fell apart and were never in the game on either side of the ball. Winning there could have salvaged the season, and it was the same last chance with the Minnesota game, but we were worse. Since the Eagles and Cowboys both won their last two games it wouldn’t have mattered anyway, but we weren’t even competitive and twice lost very badly.
Injuries hurt us last season, but not any worse than any other team suffered. Some important players never played up to the level that they were counted on to do, whether through injury or age, but we didn’t have the bench to replace them. We wore down as the season progressed.
It turned out that we had a great corps of players in 2007 ( somewaht surprising with Tiki Barber gone ) and we “jelled” at the end of the season. We seemed to have an even better corps in 2008 in spite of losing Michael Strahan, Kawika Mitchell, Gabril Wilson and giving up on Jeremy Shockey, but some cracks were starting to show at seasons end. Then, inspite of Plaxico Burress losing himself and Derrick Ward leaving, we looked like we had improved ourselves for 2009, starting out great before collapsing.
I think the 2007 Giants were much better than just a one year Super Bowl team, and they proved it, but now I am afraid that our chances have slipped away and we are going to settle back into being just OK again for a few years.
I sure hope that I am wrong.

Embellishment :
It’s also a cure for insomnia.
10-6
A regular season similar to 2007, a lot of ups and downs, defense plays poorly early on and everyone is bashing the team but then they turn it on and the defense becomes one of the better ones in the league. Offense will have no problems, Eli will continue to get better.
I'm kind of anxious about the season
and I feel the team may also be anxious. That being said, I think the guys are also chomping at the bit to prove that last season was a fluke and prove they can be a Superbowl contender. I think this team is extremely focused and determined and they’ll be all business come game day
11-5 and Division Champs
If the Giants are healthy, then there is no good reason for them to finish worse. I would be very disappointed at 10-6 and a Wild Card spot.
No team in the NFL has a better collection of D-linemen. I’ve always felt that good DTs can really hide your MLB. Ask Ray Lewis about his DTs when the Ravens played a 4-3. He said that he wouldn’t be the Ray Lewis we know if it weren’t for them. Look back to 2008 when Robbins and Cofield had great years and Tuck was healthy. They wreaked havoc until they got tired late in the season. This year they plenty of reinforcements.
With a healthy KP, the Giants would have arguably the best secondary in football. Ross, Thomas, and Webster are a very good trio, especially now that they have safeties that know what they’re doing.
Last year there wasn’t even a 3rd RB option. This year we get Brown or Ware back so that Bradshaw and Jacobs won’t break down as easily. Also, Brown and/or Ware are a receiving threat at the RB spot that we didn’t have last year.
The O-line can get younger and more athletic with Beatty. However, even if Beatty doesn’t with the LT job, the line will be healthy, which it wasn’t all of last year.
The WRs are already very good but they’re on the verge of greatness. With Eli steadily improving, this is the perfect time for the WRs to take it to a higher level.
Perry Fewell isn’t a first-time DC like Spags or Sheridan. This guy was an interim head coach. He’s been around the block. He’s never had as much talent as he has right now. He also has a unit that’s eager to erase the failures of last year. That makes them more open-minded and more committed. I don’t envision the ups and downs that others are expecting.
If the team has debilitating injuries again, then all bets are off. But if it’s a relatively healthy season for the Giants, then I expect them to be hosting a playoff game.
giants best secondary?
best rotation of D-lineman? DTs wrecking havoc?
since losing to the birds in regular season in 08 the giants been on a pretty healthy slide…
OK, that’s some strong kool-aid.
Im not saying they can’t improve vastly from last season, but going from the 3rd worst defense in the NFL (right next to DET and STL who had crappy offenses too) you are sipping on some major kool aid at the moment.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
Ok your right about us not having the best secondary
thats more than a bit ridiculous. But yes, our D-line rotation should be one of the best in the league. We have 3 quality DE’s and maybe a 4th with JPP. We have more than a few DT’s that can get the job done. We are definatly a top 10 defense this year if healthy. But Unfourtunatly teams dont stay healthy (especially ours) if the Giants want to be contenders and return to being a top 10 Defense, they’ll have to learn to overcome injuries and stay motivated. That is the real challenge the Giants will face this year, not a lack of talent
If you're going to refute my comments
then bring up a counter point. Saying that I’m on Kool-Aid without giving a reason is inconsequential. You brought absolutely nothing to the conversation.
Tell me a 4-3 team with a better rotation of D-linemen. Explain why they can’t have the best secondary and why the DTs can’t wreak havoc.
It’s funny how no one questions that a team can get worse but getting better seems to be impossible. I guess these teams’ improvements didn’t happen.

I would
be concerned about your secondary, and exactly how many successful QB’s have there
been from the U of Houston? Not to be confused with the other “U” regarding QB’s.

12-4
yeah, I said it…
Superbowl = winner winner, chicken dinner!
that’s being honest, but then again – we haven’t even started training camp…
so pretty meaningless at this point – but that’s what I want to see happen… it actually happening…
well, if it does, maybe I should put $$ on it right now!

If we can stay healthy enough
I also think we’ll be 12-4. The ONLY thing that worries me is the MLB spot, but I think our D-Line gets back to it’s old glory, which should help cover that glaring weakness. And if KP can regain his form, then I think they’ll be the best secondary we ever had (and a lot of that will hinge on getting pressure from our front 4).
agree with the hopeful return of the dline
12-4 is not out of the question and very reachable. The bad taste of last year, will have most guys wanting the W in close games, so I’m thinking they get 3 close games that they would have lost last year – this year. The MLB is def. a concern, but like you said, as long as the dline does its thing, good defensive calls are made, and the MLB does a good enough job to not allow big plays & of course the injury thing stays relatively minimal – then this team should do well enough to get the division. And hope their depth in dline pushes them over the edge in the playoffs as they get a second wind.
Opus smart , lascivio magis , intereo gauisus...
Been awhile fellas
Been swamped with AMI (Navy…Aviation Maintenance Inspection) coming up and I’m in 2 classes. Hoping we stay healthy this year and the skies the limit. I feel like we have a relatively hard schedule, but we are flying under the radar. I also thinks the Pies are too overrated and theres absolutely no way they have the same injury luck this year. We go 11-5 and win the NFC East. I really want that smash-mouth defense to show back up this year. THE YEAR OF THE TUCK!!!
Honestly
I think the defense will be better than last year so that should put us at least one win above last seasons 8 wins. So I say 9-7 but 10-6 is a real possibility.
I think that this could be a big year for the NFC East so while I hope we win the division the reality is that it probably will not happen but with a 9-7 record I say our chances are less than 50% of getting to post season play but with 10-6 it goes to over 50% not by much but that extra win could really help, especially if it against a division or conference team.
So pumped for the season…..
I see...
the Giants being more competative this year. I hate to say it, but I think the Cowboys will win the division, with us being the wildcard. We’ll lose some stupid games that’ll kill us in the end. I think we’ll split with Dallas. The Redskins will implode, and the Eagles won’t really find their grove soon enough. I think we’ll win the Wild Card game in the playoffs, and then probably sputter out in the Divisional round or the NFC Championship. I hope I’m wrong, but I’m trying not to be too optimistic.
8-8

He had a knack
for doing just what was needed. Don’t forget his hip-check of Steve Nash into the scorer’s table, goading the Suns big men into leaving the bench, getting them an auto 1 game suspension, which was the game the Suns got eliminated on.
Oh
I remember seeing something being played indoors with a big bouncing ball during the NFL off season in the spring. I think I noticed it once or twice while changing channels between football games in the fall, too. With everybody running around so much without stopping, are there any rules? Or, was that soccer?
