Chad Jones in "guarded" condition.

Reports are coming out that the Giants' third round pick, Chad Jones, has been involved in a serious car accident. The safety, a LSU all-star, is in "guarded" condition. According to WWL-TV, a New Orleans CBS affiliate, the promising player suffered a fractured left leg and had "arteries and nerves exposed."

First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with Jones and his family at this trying time. Objectively, however, we also have to be concerned about what this represents for the Giants' secondary. Scouts were wild about Jones' athleticism, and though his pitcher's lifestyle caused him to show up in East Rutherford a little out of shape, the thought of him backing up the safety position was promising.

For now, however, we'll keep him in our thoughts and hope that he is able to make a full recovery. His father confirmed that his son was hurt, but alert, when he was taken to the hospital.
