New York Giants notes: Wow, real stuff to talk about!
Let's take a little break today from the 'Giants By The Numbers' posts. We are up to 19, and you are not going to like how that number turns out, anyway.
Besides, there is some real Giants news today.
- I am smiling today, and it isn't just because I toured the new stadium Wednesday (or snuck in 9 holes of golf this morning). It's because the Giants are almost certain to be holding training camp in Albany this summer, 20 minutes from where I live.
CEO John Mara had this to say about training camp.
"We’re inching our way north."
Sorry, MG, Ralph, Ernie P., Pat and the rest of you 'regular' beat writers. Looks like you will be coming back to my neck of the woods for a few weeks this summer. - Speaking of Mara, ESPN New York says he seems to be feeling much better about the state of the Giants than he did when last year's playoff-less season ended.
"I'm very happy with where we are right now," Mara said while standing on the field at the New Meadowlands Stadium after a news conference for New York's 2014 Super Bowl bid. "We have a couple of question marks which hopefully get ironed out in training camp, but going into this season we should be a better team than we were last year. We better be."
-
FOXNews reports that the latest developments in the Lawrence Taylor story could help the former Giants' superstar. I hate this story, and I wish I never had to write a word about it. But, it has to be done.
-
John Fennelly of GiantsFootballBlog caught up with David Tyree at a fund-raiser recently, and has a nice interview. I get a slew of invites to events like this and it's the only time I actually wish I lived closer to the city rather than just outside of Albany.
-
Sometimes ESPN's Matt Mosley makes me shake my head. The other day he asked the question "Is Phillip Dillard a viable candidate to start at middle linebacker?' for the Giants. Umm, yes, Matt, he is a living, breathing middle linebacker -- and one of about eight guys the Giants have listed at the position. So, he really is a viable candidate.

100% agreed on Mosley, Ed. And not to start a Mosley-bashing thread here, but that’s a really high-profile job that he has, and honestly, I can’t think of a time… ever… where I’ve read his blog and came away thinking “That was interesting.” But the bigger problem that I have with him is the complete lack of effort – Did anyone else notice his writeup on the Cowboys’ draft board, which was 2 weeks late, and shockingly, he had absolutely no idea about it, despite its appearance pretty much everywhere? I mean, show of hands here – Who saw the Cowboys draft board 2 weeks ago? Mosley didn’t, and when it’s your job to cover just 4 freaking teams, that’s just completely unacceptable.
Formerly Bye, Dawk :(
I hear you
I mean, Mosley is a former Cowboy beat writer and too often he still acts like one. I’d like to believe I could do that job better than he can, to be honest.

I think Moseley has his job because of his appearance
Not an unusual thing in TV LAND
He isn’t awful, but he rarely seems particularly well informed, and he he usually repeats what others have already said. You would think with the access an ESPN guy gets, he would have great stories.
they are probably too busy
enjoying ESPN’s perks (commercials, etc. …what have you).

with the name change, now I don’t even hate you at all. Excuse me while I go bathe…

David Tyree's a free agent?
Cut Moss, bring him in.
P.S. Mosley is a Cowboy fan trying to write for the whole nfc east and it isn’t working.
absolutely!
He can cruise down-field on punts at around 80% and still down the ball! With a new punter he could be a big advantage for us on the punting unit! If he does absolutely nothing else except down punts he’s worth the NFL minimum if he doesn’t have a job!
Heck anybody that can catch a ball in his ear-hole should be on our team..
"When I was a boy and had no sense I got my pecker stuck in an electric fence..Well it curled my hair and tickled my balls, and made me shit in my overalls"
Matt Mosley is a Cowboys homer
If you read his blog with any kind of regularity, he always speaks good of the Cowgirls. He rarely bashes them and is always critical of the other teams in the divison. Like Ed said, he’s been a beat writer for them, and it seems like he has stayed one.
Just look at his links to the team news and you’ll see 5-6 links for the boys and maybe 1-2 for the other teams.
Training Camp
will bring competition for jobs and TC loves that.
I am most curious to see how the OL shapes up. It could go in any of a number of ways depending on who – if anyone – is identified as a weak link.
McKenzie out? Is it Beatty or Diehl that plays RT?
Seubert out? Does Diehl slide in or can Petrus actually start as a rookie for TC?
Or it could just stay as is with healthy people for a change.
Only time, Ed?
“…it’s the only time I actually wish I lived closer to the city rather than just outside of Albany.”
I’m a younger guy so I suppose the fast pace of the city would intrigue me more.
South, maybe
But if I go South I’m going a whole lot farther than NYC. I’m not stopping until I get at least as far as South Carolina. Warmth, baby, warmth!

I love South Carolina. Vacationed there a few times.

I live on a small horse farm in Piedmont, SC which is a country suburb
of Greenville, in the upstate area. It’s only twenty miles to the Blue Ridge Mountains and about the same to Lake Hartwell, a great bass and striper fishing lake with over 900 miles of shoreline. I’ll send some pictures of the farm to your email address

SC and Georgia both suck
you want North Carolina or Florida, nothing in between!

to be fair
I was in Savannah, GA, and Columbia, SC, not the nicest places. And I was 15. And homeless. There, now I have all my excuses out for being mean to entire states, probably unfairly.

Savannah is about 5 degrees hotter than hell itself!
And the upstate of SC is a much better place to live (at least in my opinion) than Coumbia which is about 8-10 degrees hotter than Greenville.

LOL!!..Actually they are both nice places..South Carolina is a great place..
Spent alot of time in Murtle Beach losing golf balls..Georgia was a bit too hectic for me..but that was Atlanta..Now I am in Port St. Lucie Florida..beautiful place..but don’t count on Ed for a visit..He was right down the road in Miami last year and never contacted me about a Golf outing or a fishing trip..then after seeing that picture of him, I don’t know that the neighbors would complain (kidding of course)..I live in a two story I built last year that overlooks a canal..I built a dock and bought a boat..It is called the C-24 canal but there are more “Crappie” in it then you can fill a cooler with..I pissed off a guy from the Water Management District..He asked me how things were going and I told him : “This is a Crappie canal”..(I believe he mis-interpreted me)..
"When I was a boy and had no sense I got my pecker stuck in an electric fence..Well it curled my hair and tickled my balls, and made me shit in my overalls"
what's good for the goose
I e-mailed you three times before going down to Miami, you never wrote back!

Yes you did Simms..unfortunately I wound up out of town..So our paths never
had a chance to cross..but you all are always welcome here..anytime..sometimes I do have to leave for awhile but I am mostly here now…I would welcome you guys if your in the neighborhood..but just remenber one thing..If I tell you let’s go fishing..I am an ex-pilot, so wear a hat and strap your balls to the seats..You will hear Jimmy Buffet blasting your ears out but I’ll find the fish…just hang on..The only time I’m slow is when I’m looking for my fucking Golf ball..Gets me agitated..Well the hell are you you little 3.50 cent piece of shit…

Underrated
Hi guys!
Here from Spain looks like all the writers around the NFL don’t count on the Giants, and they put all their money on the Cowboys and even the Eagles.
I know last season was a disaster and I don’t live in the US…but we won the superbowl two years ago and we have almost the same team. A very good team.
I also know that the MLB position is still unknown…but that’s 1 position out of 22!(not counting the ST). In the rest of the positions I think we have average or elite players. This doesen’t make a team a contender? I still think that we have a better team than the Cowboys. We have postion by position, better players than them, and better coaching staff. I honestly think that this is going to be a great season.
But that’s an opinion from the other side of the ocean….I don’t know what really happens there!
Cheers!
YES!

If you were around in '07
When we won it all, than you know the Giants play there best football when they get no respect!
Do you get much football coverage in Spain?

must be young
weren’t around from ‘65 to ’83? We didn’t get no respect and we were the worst. Best start bitchin’ now or the Mara/Tisch combo will let the franchise go into the toilet bowl again. They get their money they don’t give a Shit.
This is cool!!..Where in Spain are you?..I have to go there in September..Maybe we could catch a game..

Matt Mosley....
should just be sent to ESPNDallas.com
how he is covering the entire NFC East when he is an avid and rampant Cowboys fan is beyond me.

camp in Albany
love it every year it’s the highlight of living in the capital region.
we can’t keep any pro or semi pro teams (exception Valleycats) here… so camp fills that void nicely. Glad to see it’ll be back.
Where do you live, Flynner?
Valleycats are only a couple miles from me. Perhaps this summer we do a BBV meet-up deal at a Valleycats game.

Capital Region
Didn’t realize there were so many BBVers from the Capital Region. I’m originally from North Jersey but have been up here for school the past 5 years. Training camp has been one of the things i love most about being up here.

The funny thing about Mosley
is that all the Cowboys fans swear that he hates Jerry Jones and loves to bash the Cowboys on talk radio. “if you lived down here, you’d know.” All I know is that he posts a ridiculous amount of Cowboys stories compared to the other 3 teams.
I never understood why ESPN picked a reporter from Dallas when 3 of the teams in the division are in the Northeast.
100% right
idiot cowboys fans swear up and down that MM is a huge Dallas detractor….
they’re just mad b/c he calls it like it is (in Dallas) and most Dallas fans are just straight up homers so any constructive criticisms enrages them.
They deserve each other….MM and Dallas Fans that is…..

Still don't get the LT stuff
I mean $300 to masturbate to a poor abused girl doesn’t make sense.
I mean, buy a Victoria Secret catalog if you’re that desperate to satisfy your urges.

LT's got hairy palms
Sounds to me like he would have been better off just ordering a porno in his room, not to mention it would have been cheaper, we are just gonna have to wait till the facts come out, everyday it’s somthing new . I am still wearing my 56 Jersey though I don’t care what anybody says.

Hmm been thinking about this one
I’ll be attending my first Giants game this year up in Seattle. Taylor or Tuck jersey is the question because I know how rowdy those Seahawks fans can be. I don’t really want to get my ass kicked ya know.
Well if they're still sucking in week 9
which I fully expect, they might not be so rowdy.

1 – Thanks for the mental image, Fox.
2 – LT! Ever heard of Spectravision? (Spanktravision?)
3 – When he inevitably beats the rap…the Post will have a headline….
I left my swagger in my other pants.
Haha
sorry about that.

Wait, Ed
No love for Gary Wood with #19? You also could have mentioned Bob Timberlake at #18. Gotta love those Giant QB’s!
LOL!!
Tomorrow. It’s a loooong off-season. Gotta space the stuff out sometimes.

Mara is feeling good
Does this mean the stadium is sold out? I’ve been here before when we drafted the best “athlete” and stayed in the NFC East cellar for years and years. Can anyone spell Allie Sherman, Rocky Thompson, “THE FUMBLE” and all those horrible years. This was a crappy draft and this guy should be screaming about it but NO he’s happy. Why not he’ll make his money and we’ll be stuck with a 1st round pick that sucks for the next 5 yrs, probably cut in 3yrs.
Stadium not sold out
“The Giants have less than 1,500 PSLs remaining…all their non-premium seats have been sold, guaranteeing no blackouts” – Gary Myers, NY Daily News
He also said that there have been reports that the Jets still have over 10,000 PSLs to sell, but Woody never confirmed that.
Goff or Dillard? That is the question.

David Tyree is a good guy
He hoked me up with an autographed card maybe two weeks after that famous superbowl catch. Well actually his father got it for me but it was definitely signed by David Tyree. Dave if you read this blog “Thank You”.
I was taking a lot of heat for giving LT the benefit of the doubt in this whole rape thing. After hearing his story, namely, self satisfying himself but having a used condom in the trash can, I gotta say LT “Doesn’t look good bro.”
Ed just wanted to say you do a good job man. Impressive website and your post are always interesting. Haven’t been a meber long but I read a previous post of yours where you stated that you woud like to know if we thought you were doing well. You are.
