NFL Draft: Day 3 Open Thread
If you are still hanging in there watching every pick of the NFL Draft -- and I know some of you are -- here is a Day 3 Open Thread.
You would have to think the Giants grab a linebacker or two today, as well as look for some depth on the offensive line, at running back and maybe at corner.
Here is a quick look from NFL.com's Gil Brandt at some of the best players still available. Here is another list of best available players from SB Nation's Mocking The Draft.
Scan those two lists and you realize there are still a lot of good football players out there.
I will be out at my son's soccer game for part of the morning, but I'm sure you guys can carry on without me for a bit.

ESPN round 4 mock has Giants taking Chaney
like his measurables, he had best score at the combine on some events. Lots of injuries though, and I love the quote “There is some concern about his mental capacity”. Guess they can’t come out and say he might be dumb as a box of rocks.
Homer: Aw, twenty dollars! I wanted a peanut!
Homer's Brain: Twenty dollars can buy many peanuts!
Homer: Explain how!
Homer's Brain: Money can be exchanged for goods and services!
Homer: Woo-hoo!

I think we need to address ol and rb
I don’t want anymore late round LB’s. We haven’t hit on any yet. We have enough lb’s that can’t play.
by Giants56 on Apr 24, 2010 9:08 AM EDT via mobile reply actions
It's obvious
From what Marc Ross had to say, the Giants weren’t very excited about the mlb options in this draft beyond McClain. I don’t know what bringing in another mid-round lb is going to achieve. We have taken them in the last 3 drafts. It is time to give them a chance to play.
I’ve thought about it and like the direction Reese has gone. The free agents signed last year to bolster the D-line didn’t work out. New blood had to be brought in. Looks like he solved the whining problem between Osi and Kiwi about who is named the starter by bringing in more competition. DT was one of our biggest needs, and on paper, Joseph is exactly what we need, a huge mountain in the middle to replace Robbins. They feel he can not only stop the run, but can push the pocket.
Looks like Reese wasn’t happy about the safety play last year and is doing something about it.
LB
I don’t see the point in going LB this late. I would like to see us make a run at Morrison (already proven) now that the Raiders are going to want to move him with the addition of McClain.
Does anybody know?
Has Morrison signed his tender yet? Because until he does, the Raiders can’t trade him. Therefore, he is doing what players do, and is basically using it as a no-trade clause. Any team that wants him will have to give him the contract he wants to get him to sign the tender and let the trade go through.
I might want Morrison if we can get him on the cheap, but I don’t want to commit lots of years and guaranteed money to him.
Yes, Morrison signed his tender
but strong possibility that he’s released by them.

I just got a good (bad?)
feeling that we’re taking Dennis Pitta or Ed Dickson, a TE. Really hope not.
Ready Brandt’s list, lotta nice names on there. Eric Norwood, Rod Muckelroy or Jamar Chaney would be nice.
Brandt doesn’t even list Chaney in his best available there..which is interesting.
He also lists Norwood and Muckelroy as ILB’s. Get em Jerry
What are the chances that Campbell drops to our pick?
Makes for an interesting choice who we go with. If it happens, I think the Giants pick Campbell over an LB.
by Well-Rounded Cube on Apr 24, 2010 9:11 AM EDT reply actions
I think so too.
BPA has been their way..and I think he fits that.
But just like basically every pick the Giants had, I’d be surprised to see that.

Then again
Knowing our luck, Crypt Keeper picks him up before we get a chance.

If Shanny is smart
he takes Campbell. He’d have Trent Williams and Bruce Campbell to revamp the Redskins O-line.
Then the Giants could take Kyle Calloway.
I heard some talk he goes undrafted actually...
too much baggage.
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 24, 2010 9:17 AM EDT up reply actions
Eric Norwood ya'll.
This year’s Tedy Bruschi….DE to OLB.. Only a few sites even got him as a ILB.
Having a MLB who knows how to blitz? Hmmm…
I GUESS ARE NEW SHORT LIST
ILB-Eric Norwood
OT-Champbell
RB-Anthoney dixon
RB-Joe McKnight,
ILB, Texas Roddrick Muckelroy,
Chaney, AOA, Tony Washington, Calloway, all still on the board
We might have to move if we want Chaney. There are a few teams who could pick him at this point. He has been my top, mid round fall back option with McClain and Lee off the board.
Bleeding Blue since 1962
me neither.
I wonder if they’re targeting JPP’s back flip opponent, Kion Wilson from USF?
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 24, 2010 9:41 AM EDT up reply actions
seen him rated about Chaney in a few spots as well
don’t agree with that..but still

Matt Tennant, Center from BC?
We all know Coughlin loves his BC O-linemen & they’re a factory for those (i.e. Chris Snee). If Bruce Campbell is there though…then we’ve gotta go with him to hopefully replace McKenzie soon, I guess. Keith Booth is garbage, and I want to have Diehl moved back to Guard soon with Seubert being axed.
love to see that.
Between him and Bruce Campbell…I don’t think you can find a better value in the 4th.
Tennant is a 2nd round, borderline 1st round talent.

morrison is a safer bet than any MLB we could draft or play next year…
I'm telling you..Jon Goff is our starting MLB
the competition will be Wilkinson and Kehl..but Goff is our man.
They were high on him since they drafted him.
I don't mind Goff

Dont criticize people for calling it a reach…
I’m in favor of the Giants getting 2 LB’s

“Shows good instincts. Consistently reads plays correctly and quickly, allowing him to play faster than his 40 time. Displays the quickness to make plays between the hash marks. Is tough and strong at the point of attack, using his hands well to jolt blockers, stay free and make tackles. Moves well through traffic. Picks up running backs and fullbacks in the flat”.

Dillard
Profile on NFL site says he had a lot of injuries till his senior year. He was pretty good this year though. Second in tackles to Suh. Strong upper body, decent speed. Not great on coverage but good against the run. Sounds like a solid pick for the 4th round. I think it’s another guy that has some room to grow due to his lack of playing time till this year. Trust Jerry and the scouts, right?
Even if Suh was amazing last year
How is your DT the leading tackler on the team? This is no knock on Dilliard but that’s kinda scary.

The Giants continue to upgrade their defense, with their fourth consecutive pick on that side of the ball. They’ve addressed defensive needs now on all three levels. Pierre-Paul and Joseph will help the front four, Chad Jones is an athletic upgrade in the back half of the field, and Dilliard is a linebacker who can play Mike or Will has now been added in the fourth round.

vs
Daryl Tapp, Trent Cole, Daniel Te’o-nesheim, Brandon Graham, Victor Abiamiri, Ricky Sapp
I like our chances at DE.

Without a doubt..Helps to have a fresh Coach out of college..
Carrol’s doing a rape on talent..but let’s all remember his track record as an NFL coach…
"When I was a boy and had no sense I got my pecker stuck in an electric fence..Well it curled my hair and tickled my balls, and made me shit in my overalls"

New Thread
Guys, I will open a new thread for the 6th and 7th rounds. This one is getting large. So, shortly after the Giants 5th round selection I will open it up.
With so many people left that have good value
i want to trade down in the 5th and pick up a 6th if we can.

cuz he is not that good
he is another raw prospect
in the 5th round, its tremendous value though
Introducting: Jason Fear-Paul
by BigBlueIntervention on Apr 24, 2010 12:46 PM EDT up reply actions
Raw prospect? Because he was FB? He only played Oline for two years and
is still considered a top guard.
There wasn't a huge difference in value from
John Jerry, Jon Asamoah, and mitch petrus

Awesome pick
He struggles in that getting pushed back in the pocket, bull rushed, and has poor levrage.
But it was the way he was getting coached. It was a technique problem, not a strength problem. he had an awesome bench press at the combine. he does everything well for an offensive lineman, he can do it all. great pick.
he was a TE
then a fullback, then finally a OG.
Of course he’s not 100% sound, he hasn’t played the spot!
But he’s 6"3 310lbs and strong like an Ox
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 24, 2010 12:48 PM EDT up reply actions
excellent pick and we STILL might land Tennant
interior lineman late can be golden
by Spider Lockhart on Apr 24, 2010 12:46 PM EDT reply actions
Andre Brown is rumored to be healthy
this is why no RB’s I’d think.
Get another OL next too.
Maybe Zangief or Tennant? Maybe both?
We still need a returner. If Karim is still there we have to take a shot with him.
Bleeding Blue since 1962
Jones returned 1 punt
he wasn’t the starter there
by mclaren_is_the_best on Apr 24, 2010 12:50 PM EDT up reply actions
negative.
he didn’t return kicks, but he was the sure hands guy they put back there.
Basically like we used RW a few years ago
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 24, 2010 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions
Karim could be a much better change of pace back than we have on our roster and can catch the ball out of the baclfield.
Bleeding Blue since 1962
I know.
I kid.
But it’d be pretty sweet to see the Dreadlocks of Doom returning kicks.

A raw guy, but a brawler. Sorry Richie, we love 'ya, but your gonna have to wrestle this guy for your spot.
Bleeding Blue since 1962
I doubt he will have any problems
technique is not on the same level
by mclaren_is_the_best on Apr 24, 2010 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions
True, but it will take time
Richie’s job is safe for this year, IMO
by mclaren_is_the_best on Apr 24, 2010 1:02 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah we can always draft Dodge
I hate using picks on punters. We need to trade down and get more picks next time if we want to do that
I hope they don't draft a punter
after getting Petrus, I hope they dip into the OL pool again.
Getting Petrus now is a steal
