Hello, Deon & so long, C.C.
This is great news for C.C. Brown haters. Which, I assume, is anyone who calls himself or herself a Giants fan. Except C.C.'s mother.

Nice.
Love this move for alot of reasons. Mostly getting rid of Can’t Cover Brown.
Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.
sure looks like it
If JR were to sign a FA LB to make his draft more flexible who do you think it might be?
I sense that he really prefers to draft BPA and if he has less pressure on the LB slot he could take that #15 to nab top 10 players that drop – like Morgan, Trent Williams or Spiller
way to upgrade the secondary with an unspectactular but quality, above avg player
Reese is getting back to what he’s so good at and that’s getting a good players cheap.

Great news
now i dont have to watch CC Brown play with the grass while desean jackson backpeddles into the end zone

Doesn’t look too shabby.
To add on...
Grant is ranked 32 out of all DBs. Rolle is # 46.
In addition,
According to field gulls, he does better in deep zones, which is exactly what Fewell would be looking for in a safety: http://www.fieldgulls.com/2010/3/16/1376063/the-facts-and-implications-of
The last paragraph has all the goodies.

He goes all out…
Not enough DL depth? 2 FREE AGENTS!
No WR’s? 2 EARLY ROUND ROOKIES!
Now: Poor safety play? 2 FREE AGENTS!
I’m seeing a pattern here…

Thought you’d swapped over for a second :)
haha that was close
if mcclain, morgan, and spiller are gone by 15 im all for weatherspoon. jus the whole converting to MLB, his football “smarts” (called plays but the ones coach gave him, mcclain ran that sheet), and his size scare me as taking him as our MLB. if we do end up with weatherspoon i really hope JR takes a true mlb like angerer too

As for size
Spoon played at 250 lbs at one point last season (same size as McClain), but trimmed back down to be more athletic. He said the added mass didn’t do nearly as much to help your game as having more athleticism. I’d tend to agree with that. In either case if you actually view MLB as needing to weigh in at 250 Spoon has no problem carrying that mass.
On smarts
He did what his coaches wanted. Word out of interviews is he displayed the smarts necessary.
not sayin weatherspoon isnt smart
jus not mcclain smart. mcclain is a true QB of the D. he was able to take that insanely complicated D and make calls, and audibles, and shifts, and all the whatnots and always put the D in the best possible position.. on top of that he was a terror himself. thats really what i want with a MLB.. a QB of the D and with mcclain u get that QB, plus a monster running around destroying people.
ur right with the size of weatherspoon i forgot about that and i agree with u there.

Hi PB, I agree
My player at #15 for Giants is McClain if he’s still on the board. If he is not Giants should trade down if that chance appears. Then the pick should be either Brian Price DT or Bruce Cambell OT. The Giants should be able to pick up an extra 3rd round pick with the trade down.

How much?
I wonder how much Grant was able to pull from the Giants financially. This may end up being another expensive offseason like last year’s. I’m not complaining…if it gets the job done and gets us at least deep into the playoffs.

There is nobody available
that can give us what Spoon would.
Pat Angerer, Donald Butler, Jamar Chaney
in ABC order.
Or if we want to go the WLB to MLB project route, Darryl Washington’s less of a risk in round 2.

Maybe work out a deal with
the Raiders for Kirk Morrison, or the Seahawks for David Hawthorne.
Maybe not for their tendered amount..but a deal nontheless.
Much rather go with Morrison then Weatherspoon. If we’re moving a guy that doesn’t fit being a MLB…I’d rather have a veteran who’s done that for years.
Get HWSNBN...and they will come
didnt morrison play 4-3 MLB in oakland?
and led the team in tackles like 5 years in a row? how does he not fit into the giants 4-3 mlb? not trying to be argumentative.. jus wondering.

The sense I get from the Raiders and their fans (my uncle is one..)
is that Morrison is playing out of position.
He doesn’t have much gap discipline and would be better suited playing in space on the outside.
Obviously he can get away with it tho.
Get HWSNBN...and they will come
does he suck because he's on the raiders?
and with seymore and asomoga(sp?) being the only 3 good D player? or does he suck because he legit sucks. those tackle numbers are jus hard to argue. are those numbers a product of a crappy raiders D, or a good player in a crappy system?

I think he just stinks because he isn't a good player
tackles just mean he is on the field for a long long time and that the DLine ahead of him isn’t getting tackles

Morrison??
I would much rather let Goff play and just get Chaney dwn the line to back up Goff or Boley, Sintim on the other side and some good back ups…….We still have Black burn who’s solid, I think Kehl can play alot more snaps as well at any of the positions if needs be, wilkinson if healthy would be a great addition as well. We can draft Chaney and another LB like……. Rennie Curran, or Rodderick Muckelroy. After McClain, I don’t know if I go after another LB in the first, even though I really like Weatherspoon, who I also think can play Mike, I dont see why not He’s a more athletic Gary Brackett, I would strongly consider him especially in a Tampa 2 hybrid which we seem to be leaning towards, the only thing is at that spot I wouldnt go from McClain to weatherspoon unless we trade back and get another pick as well. No McClain @15, after that I have no idea what they might do. Too many options.
Peyton May Have The Wins!!
But Eli Will Have The Rings!!!
You can't trade back
and still get Spoon. I don’t know where you guys are getting the notion that Spoon is in any way a reach at 15, besides listening to Free too much :) Look around at current mocks. He is projected to us at 15, or just after to the Falcons, I’ve seen to the Pats, and it doesn’t look like there is any way he’d get past the Eagles at 24 at absolute lowest.
Spoon is not lasting past the Falcons..that's very true
I’d mention the fact the Eagles just don’t draft LB’s in the first round..but its irrelevant, Spoon’s not going past the Falcons.
Its probably as big a lock as if McClain falls to the Giants as the pick.
Get HWSNBN...and they will come
Who said he was a reach???
I said I personally wouldnt go from McClain to Spoon at that spot, once again Im against the word “reach” i think its BS but also I know after McClain, if not there at 15, my next player wouldnt be spoon and not because he is a reach at all but just because I like some other players that might be there thats all……By the way I listen to all of you not just Free, but I do have a brain and an opinion thats all. Spoon’s an excellent player though.
Peyton May Have The Wins!!
But Eli Will Have The Rings!!!
Curran's a funny idea...
I’ve seen him always scouted as a Will…but he played MLB at Georgia.
I think it was cuz he played at around 220lbs…but he checked in at 235lbs at the combine.
Dude was an animal at Georgia..a tackling machine.

All this LB talk
The Giants seem pretty content watching the dudes on the roster battle it out, If McClains not available, I dont think they go crazy, The actual pick will be a surprise but honestly I see them either moving up (strangely) or working out a, you draft him and we will draft him then we switch type of thing.

J.R Great Move!
This is a great move by the Giants organization for more reasons than one. First we get rid of C.C Brown who was a liability than an asset. Second the Giants must not feel to good about the future of KP, and for nothing else creates depth. I would like to see A.R and K.P light up the league in 2010 but KP’s health may be a bigger issue than led to believe.
This just about kills ...
any Earl Thomas in Round # 1 possibilities. Sure hope someone else keeps him away form DAL and PHI.
Could still see a mid-round S draft pick for development, though. Rolle # 2 ?
DB's
I still see the Giants needing DB’s in this draft. No need to do it in the first round. Rounds 2, 3, and even 4 will have good players still available
by jerseyjoehaven on Apr 1, 2010 9:46 PM EDT up reply actions
I dunno man...
Grant ain’t a starter. He’s a SS, so basically it helps us for our in the box safety (and unlike CC Brown, he’s not inept in coverage…)
I like ET, and even tho I don’t really have him on my board since I like the value of safeties in the middle rounds…that doesn’t really matter, now does it?
Thomas can be a nickel corner and/or play safety.
ET played SS at Texas too…Thomas is more like Kenny Phillips even if he ain’t as big. He likes to knock the snot out of people even as a ballhawk.
I still don’t think he’s completely crossed off the list. As we saw with the WR spot…Reese is basically never done filling the gaping of gaping holes. (pause)
Get HWSNBN...and they will come
Grant means we can wait and see on Phillips
If Phillips comes back healthy we simply don’t need a high draft choice at safety. We’ve made an investment in Rolle and he is pretty well locked in at one safety spot for the next few years barring some unforseen major change. If Phillips comes back healthy he is the other starting safety for the forseeable future as well. There is that question mark around Phillips about if he comes back healthy. Grant means that if Phillips can’t make it back we are still ok for this year. If we drafted a high pick for that insurance we could have ended up in a backlog player situation at safety. Anyone you draft in the first 2 is expected to be able to go at a starting spot eventually. If Phillips is healthy any kid we draft this year won’t have that chance. If Phillips can’t go, Grant covers our bums this year and we draft safety high next year. If we do add any more secondary depth I’d say it is later round, more likely corner than safety now. Someone to compete with Bruce Johnson for the dime corner spot and contribute on special teams.
I'll add that Grant may start...I don't think its out of the question
Get HWSNBN...and they will come
I wasn't particularly disturbed when Reese kept
CC hanging around, figured he knew a way to get use out of him (he can hit.) Nevertheless, I’m psyched by this acquisition. Obviously, the argument that S is no longer the team’s #1 priority has lost its persuaivness. So what is? DL? OL? LB? RB? If Spiller’s there when the Giants select, my guess is they’ll grab him. Will they trade up for him? What other moves will JR make before the draft.? He’s got a lot of guys he can put into an attractive package for a trade or draft pick. He sure makes things interesting.
easy
the best case for the Giants is trade down in the first and pick up an extra second or third round pick. Other than that trade Osi for a mid level #1 plus an extra 5th round pick.
by jerseyjoehaven on Apr 1, 2010 9:42 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't think Osi would garner a 1 and a 5
After an injury season and a down year you are probably looking at a 2 and maybe a later with it. Shockey went for a 2 and a 5, and I don’t see Osi’s value as any greater than Shockey’s.
i think
in CC’s name i shall enjoy a frosty beverage one more time. Noone has ever driven me to drink…(i don’t need any help there) but CC you came the closest.
the only problem is, there is noone left that we can all agree on.
Now go sign with Dallas, CC!
Excellent move..I could never understand why they even bothered to tender Brown anyway..

YEESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
even though we shouldnt be to critical of a guy who was a backup and thrown into a starting role, i am so glad he is gone! Deon Grant was a good move to. It seems JR wants to make sure we arent playing complete scrubs in the case KP doesnt return
First pick #15 Giants.
The more I look at this draft if McClain is not still on the draft board. The Giants should trade down in the first round. Then pick up either Brian Price DT or Bruce Cambell OT. The Giants should be able to get an extra 3rd round pick with this deal. The next thing { I know a lot of fans would be against this} the Giants should trade Osi for a mid level #1 pick with an added 5th round pick. Why wait and see if a problem starts up with Osi not starting. Granted the Giants would be rolling to dice on this one if Osi comes back strong. The Giants could pick up Kindle DE / OLB as his replacement. Outside of that the Bears just let go of Brown DE who is an above average DE and if the Giants act fast could pick him up as Osi replacement and then go in another direction with the extra #1 pick. Maybe the Giants could land both Price and Cambell in the first round. Then in rounds 2 & 3 go for 2 DB’s and a RB with the 3 picks. The Giants could look for Brandon Spikes in the second round if McClain was missed in the first round.
The Giants and picks and free agents
I also would like to see the Giants pick up another DB on the free agent market { a starter }.

Given all a that...
I really hope McClain is on the board.
Trading back would be nice if McClain, Spiller and Morgan are gone. I like the Campbell and Price idea given that.
Trading back is not easy..cuz it takes 2 to tango.
As for Kindle…he really doesn’t make much sense. Clint Sintim is the same exact style of player..and he’s got more potential.
Can we just completely dead the Alex Brown idea across Giants fan land? I mean..for real. Its like a team who say “Hey, Antonio Pierce is available. He’s good right”? No…he’s not.
Unless we can get that 1st round pick…I’d rather keep Osi too. Having the heard of lions together to feed on QB needs to happen.
Get HWSNBN...and they will come

I’d actually lean towards Trent.
As a RT, Trent Williams was dominant at OU when they had Loadholdt on the other side.

Pure hahahahahahahahahaha
This is stupid funny, I love the fact BBV go so many comments on this topic, especially today. The Osi trade shit was crazy funny. And Alex Brown should just retire, from here on in he’s just stealing money like CC Brown did last year. But at least Alex Brown deserves the right to steal money, cuz he was at least good at some point in his career. CC could never cover, it’s in his name, he was born with it. His momma looked at him and said “this boy Can’t Cover a 2 inch hole with a blanket.” In fact, we should all applaud CC for overcoming his birthright and actually making it to the NFL.
Good Times as CC Brown exits stage SUCK
well, thanks to good moves by JR, (we hope) the Giants have gone from having the worst safety tandem in the NFL to having two solid safeties, and the quesitonable return of a very good one. This is great news b/c now come draft time, you can take early round safeties off the board unless something outrageously good falls to us. Now the Giants can focus on DT, LB, and OL, I hope.
