Thinking About Our Needs

Hey everybody, I'm going to try and follow Ed's guidelines on this post; feel free to point out any mistakes I make.

I understand our need for a defensive tackle, but I just can't understand why so many mock drafts have us picking up Brian Price. They keep mentioning improving the pass rush but that doesn't really take into account how the Giants rush the passer. Most of our pass rush seemed to be generated by the defensive ends. The tackles were supposed to be able to push back or collapse the pocket so that the ends could get around to the passer. Last season our interior line didn't get any push, allowing quarterbacks to step up in the pocket to avoid the ends. This was especially bad for somebody like Osi, because of his looping pass rush. It seems to me that in order to get our pass rush back, we need our push back. Everything I read about Price says that he penetrates well, but doesn't necessarily get a good push. I know he may not fall to us, but why don't we see Dan Williams more often? I genuinely think that Price would not be a good fit for the Giants. Am I misunderstanding the problem?

If we're on the clock, the premier OT's are taken, Rolando McClain is off the board and Brian Price is the only DT worth a #15 left, I don't think we should take him. It would be better for us if we either traded back or went with C.J. Spiller.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this guys.

It's all about the creamy middle.

Right now, the middle of our defense is softer than an Oreo Double-Stuf that’s been left out in the rain. Knee injuries take forever to truly heal, so I don’t have a ton of confidence that Alford will be 100 percent this year. I have no confidence in Canty.
Antrel Rolle will help a little. A healthy Kenny Phillips (huge “if”) would help some more. A solid MLB would work wonders, but I think DT is a priority as well.
If McClain is available at #15, take him. If not, trade down for an extra second rounder and pick up Dan Williams of Tennessee or Odrick of Penn State, then get Brandon Spikes in the second along with whatever other BPA we can get. Price may fall into that mix somewhere.

I left my swagger in my other pants.

Well

Price would fill the void left by Robbins, remember freddy boy always gave us a stedy diet of 5.5 sacks per year and was stout against the run……. price would give us the pass rushing ability from the inside back

But dont tell em i told you that !!!!!

i totally agree, a stud tackle is our biggest need. one strong enough to open up the lanes for the ends and linebackers. last year our pass rush never got within a zip code of the quarterback.i believe giants gave up the most thirty plus yard plays in the n.f.l. its actually impossible to measure the effectiveness of the cornerbacks when the qurterback has so much time. corey webster is a very good corner but no one can stay with wide outs without a pass rush. as for spiller,if hes on the board, the giants have to grab him. he is very special and jacobs almost never picks up that 3rd and one anymore. reese needs to come thru in either f.a. or the draft.

Yep

I am glad someone around here notices this also. Put me in the small minority that brian price would not fit the Giants. he is a tackle, in my opinion, who gets penetration and will give you a play in the back-field 1/3rd of the time, but can get controlled and run at it the other 2/3rds of the time. brian price is a 3rd down pass rusher (as is Jay alford) in our system, and is not worthy of a 15 overall pick compared to the other talent around there.

Rolle signing aside

I’m still thinking it’s BDPA, if it’s Earl Thomas so be it, if it’s a DT or LB same thing.
Thank God the Giants have a dozen guys working out all the permutations. This stuff hurts my brain.

You play to win the game!
