Now that we have Rolle
Here is how I see the draft going:
Round 1. ILB or DT with ILB a higher priority. McClain or Dan Williams
Round 2. OT/DT with replacement RT the priority. Jared Veldheer.. Small school kid who did well at the combine. Admittedly this may be a reach but he does not have to start this year....
Round 3. SS/FS, we still need some help in this area and there will be good value in the 3rd or 4th round. Would like to see Darrell Stuckey out of Kansas.
Round 4. RB, we have potential injury issues with all our current backs so planning for the future would be smart. I would like to see James Starks out of Buffalo.
Round 5 - 7: BPA or players with the best upside.
After the Rolle signing I am more inclined to go with BPA bent towards needs with round 2-7. I was hoping for Mays previously but now ILB is a must in RD 1 or Round 2 at the latest... Small talent pool in this years draft at ILB

i think we should go after taylor mays because if you look at it both rolle and phillips are FS phillips will play SS but he and the giants both know his natural position is FS

I wouldn't really look at it that way,
the conventional “box SS” ala Roy Williams isn’t quite necessary in todays league. In fact, I would rather have two excellent cover guys back there with receivers like Moss, Jackson, and Austin developing in our division. Besides, Rolle and Phillips already seem to have great chemistry, they should get a shot on the field together
i think we should avoid taylor mays like the plague, ive had my fill of safties who cant cover my 9 year old
Taylor Mays, Jason Pierre Paul.
Your NFL draft BUSTS waiting to happen.
Let em both go to Philly or Dallas.

Teams think he has potential, which in the war room often gets confused for actual talent.
He’s kind of like a Vernon Gholston 2.0. Granted, Gholston was merely a combine warrior, but both he and Pierre-Paul were hyped for reasons that won’t necessarily translate to production out on the field.
"To the second baseman Cano, THE YANKEES ARE BACK ON TOP!!! WORLD CHAMPIONS FOR THE 27TH TIME!"

Actually Gholston had 14.5 sacks (!!!) in his last year in college

Rounds 5-7 its a no brainer of one player we should get
ZOLTAN!!!!!!!!
I don't understand the "small talent pool" at MLB thing
its actually very deep.
In the first round, yes..its pretty barren. Looking at McClain who’s probably gone, Spikes who’s a turtle and guys like Sean Weatherspoon who’s not really a MLB, but probably could play there. Yea, pretty slim.
But rounds 2 and beyond are very deep and I think the Giants could even find a 1st year starter in round 2 or 3.
Jamar Chaney.

When I say
That that ILB is not very deep in this years draft I was not saying there is no talent after round 2 but that the total talent pool is small. NFL Draft Scouts has only 12 listed inside LB’s as having round 1-7 talent. After McClain and Spikes there is a drop-off in that talent. Spikes is slow and would not be my first choice but he will do if w can get him. I will admit Jamar Chaney is intriguing, he is big and fast.
well..that’s what I’m saying. Chaney is not far off Spikes, if he is at all (I’d rather have Chaney over Spikes, but Chaney’s not a first rounder)
YOu can get a starter in round 2 or 3.
This is why “drafting a ILB in round one” isn’t necessary.

..or maybe it is!
Decided to check in on Jon Beason’s college resume…apparently, like many LB’s, he was NOT a Mike in college.
..so, maybe Sean Weatherspoon is a good choice in round one?

Thats what I've been saying
You’re best shot is 6-1 to 6-3 guy that can run about a 4.5 40 (not that the time is important, but as a measure of sideline to sideline potential)
Then you want someone that you have seen able to string out plays, sniff out RBs, especially in the passing game.
I know its a compromise from the big ole run stuffer, but that seems like the direction of the league.
I’m looking at..
1) Weatherspoon MLB
2) Roger Staffold RT
3) Linval Joseph DT
4) Secondary, RB, OC..
Spoon can make the switch. Staffold is athletic enough for LT, but big and strong enough for RT (315lbs)
Linval Joseph is big (6"5 322) and strong (38bench reps) and fast (close to 5.00 40) and….actually good at football too.

Yeah
The ILB is very deep, but scouts have most of the ILB`s in this draft more suited for WILL or SAM. (I.E Sean Lee)
Anybody read that the Browns want to trade Shaun Rogers?
Wouldn’t that be something if we could get our hands on him? He is kind of old (31) but I think he would be beast at DT for us. NYG are made to win NOW! If we got 2-3 good years out of him I think it would be totally worth it.
Who do you think we have that the Browns would want?
They have needs everywhere, including WR and pass rushing OLB
They would probably be interested in Ham, or Kiwi/Sintim (why is one of our strengths 3-4 OLB?!). However, I just don’t see something like this happening. Those guys are going to be really important cogs on the team next year.
I don't understand why everyone thinks Kiwanuka can be a 3-4 OLB
He was a DE in college, we moved him to a 4-3 OLB for a year but he hasn’t ever played in a 3-4.
by mclaren_is_the_best on Mar 8, 2010 3:02 AM EST up reply actions
Why not?
He’s a defensive end with experience in coverage and prototypical 3-4 OLB size (see: Ware, Demarcus; Merriman, Shawne). 3-4 OLB’s are almost always converted DE’s who need to be taught how to go back in coverage. He’s learned the basics already… A lot of guys are asked to make mid-career conversions, I don’t see why Kiwi can’t (not saying he should, Kiwi belongs as Tuck’s bookend).
Aaron Kampman is around that size as well and he struggled in the 3-4
So it’s not only about size. I mean I’m not saying that Kiwi can’t be a 3-4 OLB but from your post it feels like you think he would fit better in a 3-4 than a 4-3.

Corey Williams got dealt for a 5th rounder
Is Rogers worth that much more? Its likely a one year thing at his age.
