BBV Community Mock Draft: With 14th pick, Seahawks select ...

Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma.

As much as I hate to do this, I do not have 'CCE718's' selection for Seattle. So, this is my selection for the Seahawks.

Why Williams? Well, Walter Jones, the long-time fixture at left tackle, tweeted last month that he is retiring. Replacing him is one of the biggest priorities for new coach Pete Carroll.

Seattle is also in the market for a running back, so C.J. Spiller was a consideration here. However, you can get backs later in the draft. You can't, however, usually find stud left tackles.

Williams is the choice as the best tackle prospect on the board. There are too many questions about the commitment of Rutgers Anthony Davis and it is too early for fast-rising tackle prospects Charles Brown (USC and Rodger Saffold (Indiana).

Next up, I have the Giants. Might just put up a poll a bit later and make you guys wait until Monday morning for that pick. We'll see.

Spiller

I think they’ll take spiller instead. they would then have 2 key players to build thier franchise around.

It's possible

If they are presented with this choice, it’s probably 50-50 either way.

Seattle's definitely gotta go OL with one of their 2 picks

Trent’s newfound athleticism, and his known power, mean he’d basically fit any OL scheme whether its zone or man.

Disagree that they take Spiller here. I think the only way they take Spiller is if they didn’t get a QB with that first pick.

You take a QB, you take an OL to protect him.

their taking an OT in the first round

More than likely the OT they draft will be with the 6th pick consdiering the whitehurst signing.

Spiller could be an option with the 14th, along with a bunch of others.

Agree

They need a tackle in any case. If Clausen is taken before #6, one of the elite players, like McCoy or Berry, would fall to #6 and be their choice, so a tackle would be the #14 anyway. If a tackle at #6, they could take Pouncey here and solidify their OL for years. Then a WR in the second round.
Ed, pleeease don’t make us wait until tomorrow for the Giants pick.

Should we guess the list of poll players?

I’ll say Spiller, Dan Williams, Price, Weatherspoon, and Anthony Davis jump out at me the most off the top of my head.
Dunlap, Morgan, Pierre-Paul, Kindle, and Thomas are possibilities if they decide to go BPA and have a super grade on one of them. Anyone else?

by ronjohnson on Mar 21, 2010 9:12 AM EDT reply actions

Oops, I forgot Dan Williams was taken

I like Ed’s list. I was going to mention Iupati but I doubt he’d be the pick here anyway. I know Mays will probably fall to late first round, but would he fit the cover 2 scheme of Fewell anyway?

I'd add Brandon Graham to the list of possibilities....

and hopefully remove Dunlap, Pierre-Paul and Anthony Davis.

this makes sense

within the context of how this draft is going anyway, especially since we all know come end of april, we will all be wrong anyhow

and yes, no waiting till tommarow….booo tommarow

I agree they need a tackle really bad

I’d rather take Davis though, the talent difference is big enough to take the chance and in terms of talent Davis is far and away the 2nd best LT. Trent Williams is suited for RT better.

Perfect pick, given the circumstances

They really would have gone OT with the first pick, but CCE718 didn’t have the news about the Whitehurst signing before he picked, so OT it is at #14.

Sorry everyone...

Even though I am Seattle, I was unable to get my pick in time. My wife and I settled on our house Friday and were painting all day yesterday. (Would never have convinced my wife that a mock draft is more important than choosing either the color Sea Sprite or Vanilla Brandy for the dining room). I was hoping to get online earlier this morning, but the good old new house had other ideas. I was actually going to pick CJ Spiller. Knowing that I picked Clausen (which now would not happen), the ‘Hawks could use an offensive weapon of Spiller’s caliber. Was also thinking DE Morgan from GA Tech. I had a nice piece I was going to include for you, Free. Regarding my stealing Spiller right before the Giants could take him. Plus, I wanted to see where Ed would go with Spiller and McClain off the board. I don’t know, Ed, thinking you took Williams just to have Spiller on the board for your pick!

by CCE718 on Mar 21, 2010 11:13 AM EDT reply actions

I think Ed wanted to put Spiller on the board to vote on.

Making us wait till Monday Ed? That’s torture my man…

LOL!!..We never hear frm you again!!haha..

I went with Williams..but Spiller is also a strong consideration..So I think it will be one of those guys..
