BBV Community Mock Draft: With 10th pick, Jags select ...
Joe Haden, CB, Florida.
Picking for Jacksonville, 'jp2y' writes:
Haden boosted his draft stock tremendously at Florida's pro day by lowering his 40-yard dash time to 4.39, well down from his Combine time of 4.57, where it was rumored he was running with a back strain.
Talk of the Jaguars drafting Haden's college teammate, fellow Gator Tim Tebow, may just be a marketing ploy, and he may be selected by Jacksonville in a later round, but it is ludicrous to select a quarterback with so many questions concerning his mechanics at the 10th pick of the draft, with so many more talented players available, such as Haden. Tebow's elongated and slow delivery is similar to that of Byron Leftwich, a top 10 pick who was a bust and failed to live up to expectations in Jacksonville.
My take: A good pick for the Jaguars. Haden is clearly the best cornerback in the draft, and it is hard to go wrong with that. Plus, this resists the 'Tebow Temptation.' Jacksonville could use the boost in attention and attendance Tebowr might provide, but he is not going to help them as a quarterback. And that should be the most important thing.
Remember, to see explanations for earlier picks click the highlighted player name in the table below.
Next up will be the Denver Broncos, with 'NYG_Slater' selecting.
[NOTE: The folks over at Stampede Blue are running a mock draft right now, and are on roughly the same schedule as we are here. Just for grins, check the selections over there. The differences are kind of astounding.]

I like this pick
The Jags need secondary help especially as Mathis may be moved to safety.
The Jags could also go with Thomas at safety as the current starter Reggie Nelson was in some quarters rated worse than CC Brown!
As long as the Jags avoid McClain all the better!

and the JAGs love to draft florida players!! Derick Harvery and Reggie Nelson = previous #1s
I think they try to trade down, and get back the second they traded away to NE last yr
Can't gripe about this...
Haden is expected to be gone before the Giants pick, and getting the top rated corner isn’t a bad pick.
Good pick
I actually really think this pick is McClain, their LB’s are mediocre. Haden probably fits or even Earl Thomas, as I know most (or all) Jagz fans know that Reggie Nelson sucks, and they could really use a safety (or just move Mathis there).
THis is the right Florida pick too….not Danny Wuerfful Tebow because he’s a winner and sells tickets.
Steve Alford would’ve sold tickets for the Pacers way back when, but they chose Reggie Miller….how’d that work out?

hmm
I think Justin Durant is a good young MLB for them. But you still may be right with McClain…. Gene Smith is a self-proclaimed BPA drafter. If McClain is on top of his board, it’ll be the pick.
He's an outside backer
Clint Ingram was their MLB, and was hurt/sucked, so they moved Durant inside.

What I like so far....
Is that if the draft actually fell this way (I don’t expect it will), through the first ten picks, the Giants should get no worse than than one of the top dozen prospects overall with the #15 pick, which isn’t bad (prospects per my board that is). While the picks taken aren’t outlandish in any way, I don’t view three of those chosen as being among the top dozen best bets, but that comes from things like not viewing any quarterback in this year’s draft as being in that group, while recognizing that if your franchise NEEDS a quarterback, you take the best of an unexciting lot.
I agree
If both QB’s and Spiller go in the first 14 picks then we have a good chance of getting a very good player who will help us immediately.
Looking at the Stampede draft both have the same Chiefs and Raiders picks and the same players just not in the same order!

Wow.
that Stampede BLue mock is real different. Actually kind a similar to the mock I made a little while ago..well at least the Rams, Bucs Seattle and Browns pick I had the same

Haden at #15?
Highly unlikely scenario, but if the top shutdown corner falls to the #15 slot, and Reese is indeed employing the BPA strategy, what are the chances we snag him? I understand the need is not as great as other positions, however, the value is there with a CB. I know I got blasted for agreeing with the Cromartie for Jacobs trade, so don’t rough me up too much!
I Am Tobikan Judan
I'd draft him
the reason why no one liked Cromartie is not because of the position he plays, but cuz he stinks.
Having a secondary that strong for once, with Haden, TT, Web, Ross, Rolle and KP…would be quite ridiculous.
He’d be BPA too.

I don't see it as the biggest need....
But getting Haden at #15 wouldn’t upset me at me at all. I think he’s should go higher, but if KP isn’t full strength and effective, safeties may be Ross and Rolle, which means we’re light all the way around in the secondary, and Ross has difficulty staying healthy to begin with. I’d expect him to be gone, and I’d want to know who else was there, but for my two cents, Haden SHOULDN’T be there at #15.
Haden
The fact that he SHOULD NOT be there at 15 is exactly why you take him if he does fall. He would be a tremendous top 10 value in that slot. And I don’t care what the cornerback situation looks like today, you can never have enough top-notch cover guys.
Don't disagree Ed...
But if Haden IS there at #15, I wanna hedge and know who else is there at #15, cause more than one team has made some “unexpected” choices in order for his to be there, and if things are that crazy, I just wanna know who else that SHOULDN’T be there, IS there. But I have Haden in the top dozen available and that’s why I don’t think he should be there at #15.
That'd be a good situation to trade back
I’m all for cover corners, fact remains that I doubt Haden would be any higher then a nickel corner, and possibly a dime corner if Ross is healthy/alive.
Should they so happen to trade back, this is a deep draft for corners in the middle rounds, they could get a Donovan Warren or a Patrick Robinson in the 3rd possibly. Someone like Warren’ hasn’t been timing well in his 40, but he’s a good player when they have helmets on, in the 4th he’d be very good.

I disagree
BPA has to be combined with need unless you are a perfect team, Haden is very good but i would’nt take him even if he fell, we are fine at CB. i understand all the BPA talk but that would only apply to a few players like Eric berry if he fell and Suh or somethin but not just a player regarded as the best THIS YEAR……………….. and i think haden is very very good
But dont tell em i told you that !!!!!
Improving the secondary overall is a need
Remember Ross played safety at the end of the year…he can be considered a rotational dude there I’d think.
Haden’s too good to pass up.
In terms of best players in this draft…..He’s right in that 2nd tier of best players in the entire draft, right with McClain in terms of talent.
I wouldn’t think twice unless they had an equal player at a position of need (like McClain..)

It's kind of like asking would you buy IBM stock if you could get at $50 a share?
Well, yeah, IF the rest of the landscape looks similar to what it does today, IBM SHOULDN’T be at $50 a share, and it isn’t. But if IBM IS at $50 a share, you can pretty well know the landscape has changed and the playing field is very different than it is now, and at that point, you need to make your decision based on the world as it is THEN, taking into consideration what’s caused the landscape to shift, and what the other options (other choices that SHOULDN’T be there in today’s thoughts) are, and then make your best choice at that time.
Is it me
or has history been rewritten?
This quote taken from jp2y’s report
“Haden will give the Jags a stud to help match-up with the multiple receiver sets employed by their division rival, and Super Bowl champion, the Indianapolis Colts.”

Now that is taking
it to far!
Eagles fans will of course tell us that it will all change once Kevin Two First Round Picks Kolb could somehow manage to start in front of McNabb.

LOL....
Good catch, and you saw that from across the ocean, and I read right over it from a far closer vantage point.
And to mix sports, the World Champion Chicago Cubs....
are hoping to be in the World Series again…..
No-brainer...
Haden probably shouldn’t have slipped this far. The Jags would be thrilled with this scenario.
Good pick, no argument here.
This should certainly help stop the bleeding in this secondary.
Bleeding Blue since 1962
They like what they have in Cox
so I think they are more likely to go DE or DT to get any kind of a pass rush going(iirc they had 12 sacks in all of last year) but this is still a very viable (and good) pick
