BBV Community Mock Draft: With 8th pick, Raiders select ...

Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland.

Playing the role of Al Davis beautifully is 'Hoyadestroya85.' He writes:

With this pick I was very tempted to take Rolando McClain because not only is linebacker a need for the Raiders there is also some uncertainty regarding Kirk Morrison.  Al Davis blames a lot of the run defense woes on Morrison (most likely unfairly) so I was trying to get into the head of Al. Then I looked at McClain's average 40 times and I knew it wasn't going to fly.  Mario Henderson and Khalif Barnes are probably the worst tackle pairing in the NFL so something has to give.  Bruce Campbell has the measurables that Al Davis loves (see: Darrius Heyward-Bey, JaMarcus Russell.)  After the combine it basically sealed it without a doubt that Campbell is right to continue Mr. Davis' Commitment To "Excellence" in the draft.

Forget the fact that he was inconsistent in college, wasn't dominant and had less than two full years of time at left tackle. He's huge and he's athletic and that's all that really matters to Al Davis these days.

Star-divide

My take: Very dangerous stuff, trying to get into the head of the oddball Oakland owner. But, 'Hoya' did a good job. As for whether that was a good idea, I leave up to you to decide. Oh, and if 'Hoya' acts strangely for a few days we will have to forgive him. This is the perfect Davis pick, whether it is a good idea or not. If Campbell does not go to the Raiders, he still may be on the board in the second round.

I'm not sure how to vote on this one

on the one hand, this is a pick with a very high bust potential. On the other hand, that’s exactly why it’s the perfect pick for the Raiders. I don’t “like” this pick as a pick for the Raiders football team, but I do like that Hoyadestroya did a great job predicting what Davis is likely to do on draft day.

That

is also how I saw it. I think it is the ‘wrong’ pick for the Raiders. I think, though, it is exactly the type of pick they will make. So, in that sense ‘Hoya’ is right. Perfect job playing Al Davis.

I voted yes in the poll....

Not because I think this is the pick the Raiders SHOULD make, but because Hoya made a pick that the Raiders might make and that would be in line with the continuing dysfunctionality of their organization. Sad really, as I’m old enough to remember when the Raiders were respected rather than joked about.

Horrible but Perfect

if you are a sane GM you dnt even think about Bruce Cambell here but if you are playin Al Davis, there are simply only 3 people that could possibly be taken here and thats Bruce Campbell, Taylor Mays, or Jason Paul Pierre other than that everyone else would make tooooo much rational sense for Mr. Davis to leap out there for. Good Job Hoya consideriing you had to channel your inner Montgomery Burns (Homer’s Boss on the simpsons).

But dont tell em i told you that !!!!!

i agree with this in that

i think davis more likely to go with mays or paul-pierre than campbell.

Good pick but not sexy enough for Al

Chances

I was thinking that Al may go with Spiller here. What do you guys think?

by CCE718 on Mar 18, 2010 2:53 PM EDT up reply actions

i agree

maybe not spiller, but i jus personally dont think O line would be Al’s choice for a first round pick. i was thinking either spiller, JPP, even rolando (not fast enough tho).. possibly even Jahvid best. hes got the 40 time that makes Al wet.

They have Darren McFadden.

Al’s actually pretty good at identifying the needs of the team.

I think he uses the dartboard (made of virgins of course) with the players at that position.

He sorts by 40 times

they do have mcfadden but........

when u pass up one of the best college WRs ever for a guy who can run to the 40 yard line fast, who knows what ur going to do. Im sure Al will surprize everyone on draft day yet again.

good pick...

i’d imagine buffalo likes this pick too..bulaga and dan williams are still on the board

Maybe

He goes Spiller. That’s a nice sexy pick. He doesn’t care that he just picked an RB two years ago. He may be one of the few guys that actually does pick BPA, at least in his mind.
I could also see him picking Davis at OT. He’s monstrous and he has that familiar last name that Al is just sure he’s heard before somewhere.

I think its a good pick

Al Davis is actually sane when it comes to the NEED position, its just the WHO that’s the problem.

Campbell may help him this time. I’d go with Bulaga…but Campbell may have more potential.

Campbell at LT and Mario Henderson at RT, might actually be good!

“You never draft projects in the first round!”

Al Davis will never get it.

by Nfpdawg on Mar 18, 2010 3:42 PM EDT reply actions

They drafted Gallery high. Why not Campbell?

Of the physical freaks in the draft, he’s the highest rated and a glaring need. It makes sense, even if it’s an Al Davis pick. Then again, he could have gone Taylor Mays or Jason Pierre-Paul and it would have fit his mentality.

Never know what da raidahs are goin to do

So any pick here could make sense. I wouldn’t be suprised to see Taylor Mays as the pick here.

McClain

is there any doubt that we will all allow are fantasies to come true and let this guy fall to us. Each team that could use him avoids him then justifies why, and we all agree/hope
