Around SBN: 2012 Budweiser Shootout Entry List Released

Florida Pro Day in the rain

Well, I know alot of people are waiting on the Univerity of Florida to get a look at Wunderkind Tim Tebow's "new" throwing motion. I'm not one of them. However, there are a few players of interest that could have Giant implications.

ILB Brandon Spikes- Ran a 5.0 40.

If any player could have benefitted more from skippping any kind of combine like demonstration it would be this kid. With a very poor showing at the combine, demonstrating a lack of effort and not wowing anybody at ANYTHING, this takes him down a notch. He's a very talented player that just doesn't show it often enough. Talent is only so valuable in a game that requires mental toughness. Don't see any of that here.

CB Joe Haden- ran a high 4.3 low 4.4 40

He said he had a back strain at the combine. The numbers today would seem to support that. With his skillset obvious throughout his college career and his drill work at the combine, this is all it would take to solidify him as this years top corner prospect. This kid made alot of money today.

DE Carlos Dunlap- Ran a 4.62 40 and upped his bench by 1 to 22

His 40 time helped him a smidge.

FS Major Wright- no news on drills or times yet, but It's now commonly known that he is the cut up clown on this team and entertains everyone around him

WR Riley Cooper- No times yet, but a 6-3 220 lb receiver that runs a 4.5 and rated in the top ten of his position is something to consider. Supposedly looked studly catrching bullets from Tebow today.

TE Aaron Hernandez- the number 3 TE in the draft ran a 4.56 40 and benched 225 30 times. He definitely helped himself.

WR David Nelson- At 6-5 212 lbs, this kid requires watching. After running a 4.4-4.5 40, you don't want to look away. It has yet to be shown that he can produce, given the small body of work, although he looked good  running routes and catching balls from Tebow.

Tebow: It would appear that Saint Tim wowed everybody with his throwing session. They said his motion isn't all that modified, but his release point is higher and the ball is coming out quicker. He didn't have any snap problems and his footwork was nearly flawless. All in all he hit all of his receivers in stride and made all the throws, long to short, and threw while in motion several times and hit his mark. He actually helped the stock of his receivers and tight end.

More to come as it comes out.

Spikes a 5.0 40???

I agree the combine isn’t everything, but that is slow man. Seeing as some of the left tackles could outrun the guy, I don’t really want any more pictures of Jints MLBs sucking wind while chasing down certain NFC East RBs.

What a shame.

That kid played so hard in college. He just knocked the snot out of people. Maybe a late-late pickup?

I left my swagger in my other pants.

I dont put much stock

in the 40 but holy damn that is slow.

More from the swamp

Well, Tebowfest is over and it appears that Saint Tim came away smelling like…..well….a saint.

Scouts were impressed to the point of being impressed by being impressed. Some said his footwork was amazing. Some said his motion hadn’t change so much as the release point being higher and the ball coming out alot quicker. All the while, all he did was hit completion after completion with the ball landing in the receivers hands in stride.

The most impressive thing about today’s Tim Tebow? The amount of coaching he was able to assimilate in such a short time and demonstrate almost flawlessly. His confidence with the new tweaks was equally as impressive.

Even TC seemed to be totally locked into watching his performance.

Tebow to Raiders Alert!

Oh nevermind JaMarcus lost a few pounds, so he will obviously be a much better QB and will dramatically un-bust next season.
Even better…The Cowboys will trade Romo to the Rams, then draft Taylor Mays and Tebow in the 1st!

Sorry, I’m bored.

honestly

I don’t think Tebow to Crazy Al in the 1st is that unrealistic

You play to win the game!

by Simms-McConkey on Mar 18, 2010 8:25 AM EDT up reply actions

I think

He goes to a team like Indianapolis or New England, he will have time to work behind Peyton ot Tom and learn from two of the best. He would also be able to be incorporated into the game at other positions on certain plays until he is comfy at Qb!

But dont tell em i told you that !!!!!

I consider my self a Pats expert

at least, at a non-fan-level, and I think there’s no way Belichick takes Tebow. He has crappy backups, maybe, but the team has a decent offense and porous defense right now. He’d take Tebow if Tebow went in the 6th round (Like Brady) that’s about it

You play to win the game!

by Simms-McConkey on Mar 18, 2010 10:40 AM EDT up reply actions

Hoyer isn't crap

Hoyer played very well in preseason games. I’m not sure the Pats are all that hurting in the backup QB department. Hoyer is more liekly to be Brady 2.0 than Tebow is.

by bigblue777 on Mar 18, 2010 10:59 AM EDT up reply actions

I went to Pats preseason games

and Hoyer sucked terribly. Maybe he has potential, who knows, but face it, it was like russian roulette for which of those no-names Belichick would keep.

Back to Tebow

If Al wasn’t so obsessed with Russel, I could definitely see Tebow going to the raiders. But Al refuses to admit that JeMarcus is a bust! I think in reality, he wouldn’t draft Tebow simply because he doesn’t want there to be more of a QB contraversy than there already is with Bruce Grad. BUT…If JeMarcus somehow breaks a leg or something in the next 4 weeks, Tebow will absolutely go to the Raiders.

Thats his strongest talent

the ability to improve in a short time and if you know like i know you would take that over anything. You have to bet on this kid, he will kill himself to be great and that goes along way with teams. as for spikes cmon maaaaaan i speak highly of you dude, give me some effort, total gamer but he could’ve made alot more dough today but i guess his cousin Takeo has been padding his pockets…………………as for haden im glad he ran faster didnt matter to me he never fell in my eyes based on the tape and his consistent play but im glad he did better so that people can stop talkin non sense………………….Dunlap is not fooling me, I dnt like him, hes another quintin groves and derrick harvey. get him outta here!

But dont tell em i told you that !!!!!

by Blue Gates on Mar 17, 2010 3:15 PM EDT up reply actions

With you on Dunlap and Tebow

I actually believe that Brandon Graham is the best pure pass rusher in the draft.

Tebow is possibly the greatest athlete to play college ball. The fact that he is a relentless competitor and will do anything that doesn’t go against his faith to improve and win just makes him a gem that some team will be extremely happy to get him.

My bet is that soemone takes him WAY higher than his projected spot. I am willing to bet that he doesn’t disappoint them either.

How’s that Blue Gator fan?(It’s too telling that you absolutely fawn over Spikes)

I saw a little tape...

The throwing motion looked much better – the ball was “up on the shelf,” and that is impressive in itself for such a short time. I didn’t think the ball was coming out with a lot of zip, but I guess other scouts did. Still needs a ton of work, but the pro-day proved the coachability. I wish him well.

I left my swagger in my other pants.

by HughG16 on Mar 18, 2010 2:38 PM EDT up reply actions

remember he did these before

He made these adjustments once before. Don’t remember which year in college, but he did it in the off season. Everyone was all gaga over how he fixed his motion. As soon as he was playing at game speed everything new went away and he went back ot his old motion. The same will happen again. Even at the end of his pro-day he ws already starting to revert. Anyone can leanr to throw in a specific motion for a specific set sequence of scripted plays. The question is what naturally happens when the game is on. For Tebow that will be his old motion. The new motion was far from perfect as well. The ball dropped nasty, not enough zip. He was obviously aiming the ball too hard, and his back footwork was poor.

by bigblue777 on Mar 19, 2010 3:25 PM EDT up reply actions

HA! to you know who

as for the others, Aaron Hernandez is a lot like Travis Beckum as far as these workouts. Only difference is Hernandez has basically never run NFL routes, Beckum did…and of course Becks had a major leg injury.

Dave Nelson and Riley Cooper are this year’s Louis Murphy, both of em. Exceptional athletes at their size..its just, that gimmicky college offense they play in (and their QB throws hard ducks at them)

I think Tebow will do well in the NFL

and an interesting note, did anyone see that Tom Coughlin himself attended Tebows work and watched him in person, I found that very interesting.

by NJDuke on Mar 18, 2010 6:22 AM EDT reply actions

It's been said a gazillion times...

…but at the right team, Tebow will do just fine. With the wrong team, well, there’s plenty of missionary work to be done.

RIGHT TEAMS:
49ers
Rams
Broncos
Seahawks
Pats

WRONG TEAMS:
Everyone else, especially the Raiders.
Although I’d be fine with him failing if he did it in the NFC East.

I suspect TC just wanted to meet the kid. He’s wrong for the Giants (unless he’s interested in a LB or S job,) but could be good somewhere. I really hope the 49ers get him in the 4th or something. I think he and Singletary could be a good fit.

I left my swagger in my other pants.

by HughG16 on Mar 18, 2010 2:36 PM EDT up reply actions

He won't make it out of the 3rd, possibly 2nd.

Someone is going to take a flyer on him. He’s simply just too gifted an athlete to fall that far. Possibly the most coachable talent coming out in the draft with the biggest upside.

Bleeding Blue since 1962

by sunlion333 on Mar 18, 2010 4:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Tebow will be a 2nd round pick... Maybe even 1st round.

The more and more I read about it the more it seems like there’s a handful of teams out there that are secertly coveting Tebow.

Who knows, maybe TC and the rest of the brass find him fitting for NYG… He was “sitting front and center” to watch him at Florida’s Pro Day.

by one-bar on Mar 18, 2010 5:01 PM EDT up reply actions

I think TC was there for the other prospects

Spikes, Haden, Dunlap or maybe even the tight end they had

I heard Coughlin basically just left

when Tebow started throwing. Kinda speaks volumes there.

apparently differing reports out there

either way, hope they don’t draft Tebow.

He’d be useless.

Master of the squeegee

by FreeBradshaw on Mar 18, 2010 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions

That's the same thing

you said about him the last time we debated this… without any points to back it up, as usual.

by one-bar on Mar 18, 2010 5:47 PM EDT up reply actions

cuz nothing's changed.

He’s not a pro QB prospect, Giants don’t need to waste a pick on a QB that early.

See…same thing. Why would I change on that?

Master of the squeegee

by FreeBradshaw on Mar 18, 2010 5:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Don't care to do this again...

The last time we went through it seemed like a huge waste of time.

Any point I make on the argument goes as “null” for you… Why would I even try to argue with you, Tony Reali?

ok

Master of the squeegee

by FreeBradshaw on Mar 18, 2010 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Tebow doesnt fit...

Tebow wouldnt fit with the Giants right now, but I do think Tebow is a Coughlin type of guy, gritty and a leader, so I think Coughlin just stopped by to meet him and see his progress.

I think Tebow is staying in Florida and going to Jacksonville (2nd round)

by NJDuke on Mar 19, 2010 6:25 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree

Tebow wouldnt fit with the giants as a QB and he does not want to play any other positions (understandibly).

But dont tell em i told you that !!!!!

by Blue Gates on Mar 19, 2010 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Same mistake as Pat White

Refusing to do something other than QB will mean that Tebow is most likely on the same path as Pat White. He might get drafted in the 2nd round, but he’ll never be more than a gimmick. I’d have to believe that for someone who is used to ebing such a big part of a team just being a gimmick is going to suck. SOme team is going to draft him either for gimmick plays or gimmick ticket sales (Jacksonville)

by bigblue777 on Mar 19, 2010 3:29 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree

But you have to look at it from their standpoint. When your heart is in a certain position on the field trust me its hard to adjust mentally to not playing where you want but Pat white is a better natural QB than tebow….I just think Tebow’s work ethic is unlike any other so we shall see but i feel you totally

But dont tell em i told you that !!!!!

by Blue Gates on Mar 19, 2010 3:57 PM EDT up reply actions

I know it's not easy

However, if you really love the game you make that mental adjustment. Back in my high school days I was a lacrosse player. I originally played attackmen (the glory position because you score all the goals). I wrenched my ankle one year in tryouts which put me at risk of not making the team. I went to the coach and said “I’ll play any position you need so long as I can be a part of this team.” He slotted me in as backup goalie. I ended up eventually getting the starting gig and my senior year I made all conference. Funny thing is, as an attackmen I was never more than a 2nd or 3rd string caliber player. I would have never known the potential at goalie if I hadn’t been open to doing whatever necessary to be a part of the sport I loved.

by bigblue777 on Mar 19, 2010 5:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Why is anybody talking about Tebow in the same sentence as the Giants?

Look, the guy is probably the most gifted athlete in the draft. He will be drafted by some other team than the Giants in rounds 2 0r 3. He will surprise most who aren’t giving him a chance. He floored the coaches in the interview process and has shown himself to be extremely coachable.

I, personally, wouldn’t put anything out of this kids reach and I certainly wouldn’t bet against him. He is a winner in every sense of the word.

Bleeding Blue since 1962

by sunlion333 on Mar 19, 2010 4:11 PM EDT reply actions

Definetly a winner

that i wouldnt bet against………….however i disagree with him being the most gifted athlete in the draft, those comments are reserved for the michael vicks of the world IMO

But dont tell em i told you that !!!!!

by Blue Gates on Mar 19, 2010 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Or

Chris leak (I think thats how you spell it)…..he won with them too………

Sidenote: My man Troy Smith deserves a starting job in the NFL, he did nothing to warrant slipping to the 5th or 6th round whatever it was.

But dont tell em i told you that !!!!!
