BBV Community Mock Draft: At No. 3, the Bucs select ...

Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma.

In the role of General Manager for Tampa Bay, 'i_formation27' writes:

The Bucs desperately need upgrades at the defensive line positions. McCoy would instantly improve their line play, and their inability to stop the run. The Bucs were last in the league in run defense last season, allowing opposing teams to rush for an avergage of 158.2 yards per game. The Bucs are obviously in a rebuilding period and could also use some weapons on offense, but improving their run defense will help to keep them in games, especially against elite runners such as DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart and Michael Turner of their rival NFC South teams.

McCoy possesses many attributes that are hard to pass up. He has "Ideal height and bulk --- Outstanding athleticism --- Excellent speed and quickness --- Explosive and fires off the ball -- Exceptional strength --- Terrific range with a burst to close --- Does an incredible job in pursuit --- Uses his hands well and flashes some violence --- Employs a wide array of effective pass rush moves --- Consistently penetrates and wreaks havoc in the backfield --- Stout at the point of attack --- Shows the ability to shed blockers --- Active with a non-stop motor --- Hard hitter and a powerful, reliable tackler --- Very tough --- Superb instincts and awareness --- Offers a lot of versatility --- Hard worker --- Team leader" (www.draftcountdown.com).

McCoy is also arguably the best player available at #3. Eric Berry could also have fallen here, but the Bucs faired much better in pass defense than in run defense last season. Gerald McCoy would be the ideal pick here for the Bucs.

Star-divide

My take: This is the right pick, and the obvious one, for the Buccaneers at this point. So far, our draft looks pretty much the way I would expect the real deal to go down in a few weeks. I think, though, that things will get interesting soon. Remember to click the highlighted player names to reach the reasons given for prior selections.

'G Fan in England' is now on the clock with the Redskins pick.

Obvious pick for obvious reasons

I know they would’ve like Suh, here, but this is not much different, value-wise.

If the Lions are smart and draft Okung, Suh would be right here. Oh well, after all, this is a “mock”.

I voted yes,

but Berry has a chance.

I think he’s a better played then McCoy

So Free

you are happy with two of the three picks made.

Ed will be posting my Redskins pick soon….

happy?

NEVER!

LOL!

…I guess so, they seem like the “consensus” picks.

If you’ve seen the new 1st round mock I made on MTD…I don’t care for the consensus.

Berry has a slight chance

But is he gonna gain 125 lbs and clog the middle to help stop any and everyone from runing it up the gut?!

no.

But Delmas and Berry would form quite the ill safety tandem.

Suppose if they go safety/DT in the 1 and 2…

Its Suh and say..Nate Allen

or Berry and Lamarr Houston.

I’d take the top one.

True Berry and Delmas would be SICK

But I think they would be happier with the McCoy/Nate Allen combo.
They’re in bad shape all around, but seeing their teams name at #32 in the run-defense rankings hurts!

So far....

I think we can safely conclude that Al Davis doesn’t secretly loiter here under using the names of any of the first three drafters.

I’m pretty sure he doesn’t know how to use a computer. He just learned how to use an overhead projector last year…
