Should the NFL add a 20-yard dash to the Combine?

OK, almost every day someone complains about how the 40-yard dash does not tell you much (if anything) about a player.

So, the question is should the combine have a 20-yard dash? Let's face it, if a defender has to run 40 yards down the field, the offensive player is more than likely going to score a touchdown. Most of the action happens within 20 yards. So shouldn't players be timed in a 20-yard dash as well as a 40?

I personally would like to know how fast a defender can close within 20 yards or how fast the offensive guy can get away. I believe that time would be a lot more revealing of their speed or lack thereof. Of course it won't tell you if they are a great football player, but I think it would be good information to know. What do you guys think?

They already do...

They record 10 and 20 yard splits of the 40 yard dash. I have no idea where to find them though. I’ve seen it on certain players’ wikipedia pages though nowhere else. They aren’t cited either, so that doesn’t help. The media’s fascinated by the 40, so that’s all they post. And for some reason, NFL.com makes it intentionally difficult to find players’ times.

IS IT SO HARD TO MAKE A STUPID TABLE WITH ALL PLAYERS AND ALL OFFICIAL TIMES?!?!

someone please prove me wrong by finding one of the aforementioned tables.

all a that

yea, 10 yd and I think there’s a 30yd thing too.

If you watched a bit of the combine, at least the 40yd dash part…they have timers at the 10/20/30 yd marks, so they’re there.

Walterfootball.com has basically all of the 40 times for those that completed them at the combine in tables, and also there’s a pro day link that has pro day times.

I wish there’d be something that has all the drills and their times..not just the top ranked dudes

yeah, walterfootball has the 40 times, but as everyone knows, that’s one of the least useful times out there… How about the 3-cone? or the 20-shuttle? yahoo just had an article on how important the 20-yard shuttle was for ILB’s, yet they only listed like 6 or 7 guys without citing the source for the times.
