Coin Toss to determine who gets first home game at New Stadium?
Say it ain't so?
Miami Dolphins fan here trying to bring some light to a terrible situation brewing in the NFL. Apparently the NFL will hold a coin toss to determine who will play the first home game at the new stadium in 2010. I know i am a fish out of water here, but this would be a travesty, IMO. The Giants, the last New York team to even being close to being relevant need to do something to prevent this catastrophe from taking place!!! This is YOUR new home, so how could this even be a discussion. What have the Jets done in the last decade, or 2 decades to even warrant such consideration?
Just posting as a pure fan of the game, and one that had been to Giants stadium many of times, and one that lives in the North East. PLease start a petition or something=The NFL owes that much to you fans-to have your first game publicly televised, as they did with those LOSER Cowboys!
Don't mean to vent, but this really is an outrage. You can click on the link below to read more, but if you do start that petition, i will gladly sign it, as a football fan!!! Hope you guys get that first game, and good luck in the draft, and next season...Peace fellas!!

If the Jets get the game, I will start a riot
The Jets have had two successful seasons in the last four decades. They don’t deserve sh-t.
Who cares?
The first Giants game in the new stadium will be the first Giants game. Then there will be many more Giants games there. They agreed to share the stadium with the Jets, so they get to play there too.
I do wonder why they didn’t put a dome on it. I’ve been there in November, December and at night and it’s not pretty.

This is stupid. It’s not about relevancy or who had the most winning seasons in the last 10 years. It is both of their stadium now, funded by both, a 50/50 shared funding. This is the most logical way, not just “well, we deserve it because _______”.
Darrelle Revis once won a game of Connect Four in three moves.
nah.
It ain’t your home, its the Giants home…Jets are just the red-headed step child.
It’d be a disgrace to the history of NY Football to have the Jets kicked off the new stadium.

It is not the Giants home. You can wish that to be true all you like but it is not. Using history to decide on a new stadium like that is like deciding that whoever has the best record next year deserves to call it “home”.
Darrelle Revis once won a game of Connect Four in three moves.
not true.
this isn’t about record.
The Jets 15 seconds of fame in 2009 was cute…but they don’t deserve to open up a stadium in the Meadowlands.
The Jets as long as they are sharing Giants stadium…will always play in “Giants Stadium”.
That franchise doesn’t deserve to open this stadium. It would be a joke and an embarrassment to NYC if the Jets open it.
Its like the Mets moved into the new Yankee Stadium, won a friggin coin toss, and then opened the stadium.
It would be a joke

This is completely different than the Mets moving into the Yankees stadium. There was a reason it wasn’t the Jets home when they moved into the Giants stadium, but this is a new stadium where both of them are moving in together to a new home. This is also no longer “Giants Stadium” so it is not solely the Giants home who “deserve” to open the stadium first.
Darrelle Revis once won a game of Connect Four in three moves.
The Jets have not nearly the history of NY as the Jets.
Here’s a comparable one…how about LA got a new arena for the Lakers and Clippers…then decided to use a coin toss?
A Joke.
Giants open the stadium. Period.

Jets don't have the history of the Giants

This argument won’t be settled, haha. I don’t think history is a good enough reason, but that is okay.
Darrelle Revis once won a game of Connect Four in three moves.
sure it is...
that’s spoken like a Jet fan, who’s team has no history other then losing.
Who should open the stadium? 3x SB champs..or the team that hasn’t won anything in over 40 years?
The stadium’s still in the Meadowlands, where Giants stadium is.
Giants even have their practice facilities there.
If the Jets could afford their own home…they would have. THe Giants could’ve afforded this, but the Jets offered a deal.
…if that deal offers a coin toss for them to open the stadium…that’s a friggin joke.

Blah blah blah blah blah. That is what I hear. No reason to continue this argument because it is pointless. We shall only talk again as Knicks fans on P&T.

and besides the Giants are the bigger NY team with more fans, better players and play in the best division in the league

classy dude, you put your argument forward in a really polite way and frankly I see your point. It WAS always Giants Stadium, the Jets WERE always tenants, but those days are over now. It’s an equal partnership. I don’t despise the Jets but I love the Giants. Even still, I can say that in my mind, it wouldn’t be “unfair” for the Jets to play first. Do I think the Giants deserve it more? Yeah, but that’s just my fan bias!

The Jets backed in at the last second cause
their NYC deal fell through becasue of no Olympics and quite frankley the Jets are by far the lessor of the two franchises so nobody really cared if the Jets got a new stadium. The Jets had no other option so they came in with the Giants and the Giants realized it would be cheaper if they had a partner so they LET the Jets be a part of it.
Second if they are equal partners then why do the Giants have their brand new facilities right their in East Rutherford while Jets had to go out to Florham Park for theirs?
This is a Joke and this is my biggest complaint about the Mara family as owners I wish they had some Steinbrenner in them and tell the Jets you don’t get the first game if you want to be partners. Joke!
If the Giants wanted a new “home” for themselves, they wouldn’t have “let” the Jets in. Also, please check your spelling/grammar, it is atrocious. This is just annoying because you have no argument as to why it should be the Giants “home” and why they should have the first home game. I also believe they are in Florham park because that is where they already were, they just moved in there in 2008.

You are right, I apologize Landeta for mentioning spelling and grammar as it is not relevant at all. Most people don’t watch their spelling anyway, so I am sorry.

Mr. Bath
I don’t think you have much to apologize for. I’m a little bit bothered by how rudely and dismissively you’re being treated.

Check your facts
The Jets decided to move to Florham Park because they agreed a while ago to share the new stadium with the Giants so they decided to move their new office and practice facility to NJ to be closer. It just happened to open up before the stadium did so they moved in it in 2008. It’s not like the Jets up and moved to Florham Park for no reason in 2008 and that had nothing to do with a new stadium being built. These stadium deals happen years in advance so most of the logestics were worked out in the early/mid part of the decase. My point is if they were equal then why did the Giants get East Rutherford as their home for their new practice facility when they ironed out the plans for the stadium in the mid 2000’s? And yes the Giants did “let” the Jets in on the deal. The Jets wanted the new stadium in NYC while that was going on the Giants were quietley working out a deal with the meadowlands for a new stadium and it initailly got done without the Jets. Once the Jets NYC deal fell through they had 3 options, build a new staduim in Queens (which most Jet fans wanted and made the most sense), stay in the old Giants Stadium (which if they did would have been a disaster), or work a deal with the Giants and their new stadium. The Giants could of said no at that point but they did’nt becasue with a partner the costs of construction would be less for them.
These above are the facts, look them up if you must, and they are a very valid argument and if you don’t see that well then I’m done arguing with you. If you had followed this stadium stuff over the last 8 or so years like I have you would know this and probbably would be a bit pissed off at your owner if you were a Jets fan. If Woody Johnson is bitching so much about this stuff then he should of done the right thing and moved the Jets into their own stadium in Queens when the NYC deal fell through instead of gloming onto the GIants deal.
Oh yea I forgot
the Giants have sold all of their PSLs and they are worth a lot more than the Jets PSL’s so they are contributing more finacially then the Jets. Again another reason Woody Johnson and Jet fans should keep quite about this issue and just be happy the Giants decided they wanted a partner becasue if not your new home stadium would be the Old Giants stadium.
This is a valid point
Who would you want to open the stadium? The Jets are a joke of a franchise, but they should do fairly well this year. However the Giants history and tradition should be the logical choice for the football opening.
have them play each other for the first game

1st game and name...
…stadium should be opened by the Giants. The Jets closed Giants Stadium (wtf). Our last game was a complete embarassment top to bottom(wtf). And don’t get me started on that complete eye-sore of a structure next to the new stadium (wtf). I’ve heard some disturbing rumors concerning the name of the new stadium. Anyone know if there is a definate name yet? F’n Jets should’ve made that Manhattan thing happen. That seriously would’ve been freakin’ great!

There is no reason
for you guys to be so anti-Jets / anti-Jets fans.
The Jets are in another conference. My wife’s team is the Pats, and I dislike Rex Ryan, and the Jets’ players attitudes somewhat… but seriously what gives? Why the Jets hate and cocky, jerky attitude toward this whole thing?
If the Giants wanted to be rid of their association with the Jets, they wouldn’t have brought them into the deal. But they didn’t because they wanted the mutual benefit. It’s not Giants Stadium anymore. The Jets aren’t tenants anymore. And who cares? When we play, it’s our stadium. When they play, it’s theirs.
There’s no need for much of a contrived rivalry, and there’s certainly no need to act like a bunch of arrogant, spoiled snobs and be nasty to Jets fans who didn’t do anything to deserve it.
You play to win the game!
