Who is your favorite Giant EVER...and WHY?

Out of pure curiosity, who is your favorite Giant of all time. Why is he your favorite. Was it his number, position, energy, skill, personality...?

My favorite Giant of all time is Jessie Armstead No. 98!!! Now, being that I have only been around for 16 years, he is the first person who I truly remember of my youth. Of course there's LT, Simms, Bavaro, and others, but he is my favorite. My uncles took me to meet him a few times, and I have at least four different versions of his autograph hanging in my room. I still have my first No. 98 jersey packed away in my attic, by Jessie is, and always will be, my favorite Giant player ever!

Fav player

tough call. Eli, Phil, LT, Pepper, Idon’t know… probably Strahan. The gap toothed grin, the attitude, the leadership. And coming back for one last shot at it when he could have retired off of a bad injury. Stepping back out there and giving us all a lasting image of him smiling and jumping up and down like a little kid, rather than limping away from the Meadowlands. After all he gave us (year after year of solid and sometimes spectacular D-line play) for as many years as he was a Giant, he gets my vote.
But my favorite moment is Marshall burying Joe Montana. hands down the greatest moment i can remeber from my youth as a fan.

Here here. Strah played his entire 15-year career with the Giants and represented the franchise splendidly. He’d be one of my favorite Giants even without all the sacks.

Easy for me...YA Tittle

He’s not the most talented Giant player in history, nor is the the most successful. But in my opinion he was the greatest warrior we ever had. Tough as nails! Watched him throw his helmet at a guy who missed a block. Here’s a nice video about his toughness. Check out the game footage in this interview with YA’s daughter.

Ive only been a fan for about three years

so i have a fairly limited experience but I would say Bradshaw is my favorite. I cant really say any of the greats because I didnt see them play, except for my limited viewing of Strahan in 2007.

Strahan, hands down

A lifer, a leader, a great player and an ambassador of the game. No. 92, defensive end Michael Strahan. That’s my boy right there.

You play to win the game!

On this we 100% absolutely agree.

LT of course

He re defined how a position was played. hands down we havent seen passion like that since…………. even Ray Lewis falls short of the anger and determination LT played with

But dont tell em i told you that !!!!!

I'm going to shock some people

But it’s Tiki Barber. Maximized his ability, and generally was class act off the field. I know a lot of you hate him because of the stuff with Coughlin but I got his issues.

I go back a little further...

than most fans here, but not too far. I agree the greatest picture ever taken of a NYG was that of Y.A. Tittle on his knees, bloodied head and NY helmet on the ground. Unforgettable in its statement of the heart, fight and toughness of a NYG, while at the same time demonstrating the hard-knock times this organization has endured in its history. It is forever etched in my memory, and the standard that I will always hold a NYG too.
As to my favorite NYG? With all the greats that we’ve had, I have to go with one that I too have grownup with. That man is Harry Carson. He was the cornerstone of one of the most feared linebacking corps in NFL history. When he was drafted, the Giants SUCKED. They continued that way for quite a few years. Not once did Carson request to be traded. Then along can Parcells. With that head coaching, so came Banks, LT and Reasons. But Carson was the first and he stood by a terrible team, proved to be a lifer Giant. And to quote a decent RB in John Riggins: “he was the only person to knock me backwards”, I think that is damn good testiment to his toughness, explosiveness and rock solid tackling.
Just my choice, for my time of being a fan.
By the way, Free, nice 2 rounds in the mock draft, McClain and Allen. We will be a better team if those come to fruition in April.

LT and Strahan! ( I give it to them both)

LT because he’s the Greatest…. but I was able to appreciate Stray’s career more being that i was older and able to really comprehend and appreciate what Stray had done his entire career as a Giant.

I still try to watch as many of the “old” games as possible, and I have gained an even greated appreciation for the shear ability LT brought to the table…but being born in ‘81, I’m really not able to remember all the Greatness LT had prior to ‘86 (regardless of all the tape and games i’ve seen from those years)..and even in those next few years (87, 88, 89) which i remember watching w/ my father, it didn’t soak in exactly what I was seeing on TV!!!! (like LT running RB’s down from behind, taking Pick 6’s back to the house quicker than most S would, and just knocking people silly).

favorite ?

Im really partial to the 86 team,as I attended the first Super Bowl win
I walked into the ROSE BOWL with Phil’s wife and young sons
I sat 10th row, attended the post game parties,,hung out with lots of players
To me the 86 team,is by far the last real NFL super bowl winner
After 86 free agency took over and teams were no longer built from the ground up
So,,my favorite ?
I own a 86 game worn Bavaro
I own a 89 game worn Sims
I always wore 64,to the stadium,as Jim Burt was my man
I petitioned the NFL on behalf of Harry Carson
But nobody can deny who the REAL heart and soul of the GIANTS is
“NO BASEBALL PLAYER SHOULD WEAR NUMBER 3,
NO FOOTBALL PLAYER CAN BE COMPARED TO L.T.”

by WILLIAMY on Mar 14, 2010 9:33 AM EDT reply actions

Jim Burt was my man too....until he got to SF and tried to cripple Hoss....

While i’ll never forget what JB brought to the Giants….

I will never, ever, ever…. be able to forget what he did to Hoss in that playoff game….it’s amazing Hostetler was even able to come back and play….

and to this day I’m glad Marshall totally destroyed Montana…..I know Montana has gone on record saying that “he thought he was going to die” after that hit…and while i don’t want to make fun of the Greatest QB ever….he had it coming after what Burt did to Hostetler.

Jessie Armstead

I love the way Jessie played the game of football, how he was a tremendous team mate and how he conducted himself off the field. I own an authentic #98 Armstead jersey and I am glad to see him working behind the scenes with the Giants organization still. Another thing, Jessie Armstead absolutely loved playing for the New York Giants. He might not have been as popular as LT or Simms but he sure had as much heart.

The captain

1986 the Giants first Super Bowl, at the coin toss there where the 6 or 7 Bronco co-captains standing with the sole representative of the New York Giants, Harry Carson. Enough said!

Mark Bavaro...

As tough a player as this organization has ever had. And not a trash talker. Just went out and did his job and became one of the best if not the best TE in the history of the team. Nicknamed “Rambo” by his team-mates, Mark Bavaro was a 4th round pick out of Notre Dame in 1985 and before long, was a monster for opposing defenses. Whether being a key blocker for our outstanding running attack, or that “seem pass” reciever in the middle of the field, he was a match-up nightmare for defensive co-ordinators all over the NFL. Tough as nails, just went out and played the game. Overcame a devastating knee injury to be a huge part of our first 2 super bowl winning teams. A great warrior and Giant forever. #89 in your program…The greates Giants TE ever. Mark Bavaro

Easy one..

LT.

Kevin Boss is slowly working his way up the charts tho. If we can just get him the ball more i really think he can go down as possibly the best TE the giants ever had. Bavaro 2.0

Please Mets.. over .500 this year? Please??

by Plaxico Burress on Mar 15, 2010 12:08 PM EDT reply actions

LT

no two ways about it. There have been very few players who have had such an impact on the way offenses play the game, but LT was one of them. The game changed as a result of him playing. Offenses were created because of the fear he instilled in both opposing players and coaches. Ask any QB who ever faced LT about which number they checked for FIRST when they came to the line of scrimmage, and if they are honest, they will say “Number 56.”

We didn't even have a chance for the "perfect season", but we did have the perfect ending.

LT!!!

when LT was drafted I became a Giants fan. Previously I was a damn cowboys/staubach/r.white/dorsett fan. That alone should make him my favorite.

Jessie Armstead is my favorite GIANT of all time. I have been a fan for 35 years and there are alot of great players to me but I loved the intensity and passion he played every game with. My son’s and I met him a number of times and he was great with them every time. I asked him to sign my arm a couple of years ago so that I could get it tattooed next to my NY logo tattoo. He was happy to do it and I am proud to have it.

this story right here...

takes the cake!

Not that we’re playing….but you WIN!

reminds me of I think the Colts fan who got the whole ‘06 Superbowl team to sign HIM so he could get it tatooed….i think he’s still cashing like 1 or 2 guys down too lol.

He signed my jersey when i was 7, it was awesome!!

Wow thought i'd be the 1st to mention that name

LT is by far my fav, but since his name has been worshipped to death already, i figured i’d share my favorite most unknown Giant, and that would’ve been Phillipi. Not only did he just go out there and do his job, but he did it well. Never a shut down corner persay, and def. not a ball hawk, but that was due in part to the fact that his man was defensed enough to where the QB just threw it the other way. Just a solid solid player IMO, and very happy to see he has a daughter with a decent future as well.

kurt warner

a gentleman amoung spoiled children. This guy was one of the most likable Giants ever. Every night at training camp this guy would stop for autographs and pics and just a general chat with every fan that was there until they were all gone… not my fav player but as a person he was unmatched in the nfl

LT…obviously by my screen name. I am surprised that Simms didnt come up more often or Carl Banks didnt come up at all….i didnt read EVERY one but most.

Carl "Spider" Lockhart
  1. 43!!
I guess it was because he led the defense on the teams I grew up watching. Spider just had a ton of heart and played with so much energy and enthusiasm no matter what the score.
He had to make way too many open field tackles because the teams he played on usually weren’t very good. I think he actually led the team in tackles more than once from the safety position! But man, what an amazing open field tackler. He’d roll right into the legs of the ballcarrier and always made the tackle as the last guy between the runner and the end zone.
Rest in Peace Carl, you are still remembered as a great Giant!

+1

I still say LT, but Spider’s got a permanent spot in my heart.

Favorite?

I guess it depends on your definition. The best player I ever saw with the Giants in the last 50 years was LT. The one I would most like to spend time talking football with? Phil Simms (also one of the classiest – when he lost his job to Jeff Hostetler, he never said a word, just supported Jeff and stayed ready in case he was needed.) I was glad to see Kurt Warner mentioned above. His time with the Giants was not a success, but on a team which has had several classy individuals (eg George Martin), he stands out – a remarkable person.

favorite Giant

I typically root for guys that don’t have character issues, but LT is definitely my favorite Giant. Despite his previous drug issues, he was incredible on the field and played with an intensity that nobody else has since. He had that mean streak that linebackers need and controlled the game better than any other defensive player.
