Rolando Won't Fall to us, so...
After recent developments in free agency, there is little chance that McClain will fall to us...let's see why:
The potential stopping points for McClain are:
Kansas City at 5
Clevland at 7
Oakland at 8
Jacksonville at 10
Denver at 11
Miami at 12
I have my doubts at 5, 7, and 8, because they have much bigger needs, and Miami already picked up Dansby...but they can impact the way our two biggest competitors, Jacksonville and Denver, pick:
Jacksonville: The only three players I can see Jacksonville taking before McClain are Derrick Morgan, Jason Pierre-Paul, or Joe Haden. The addition of Aaron Kampman makes Derrick Morgan or JPP extremely unlikely. We'd need Joe Haden to fall to them so they don't pick Rolando. The major stopping point for Joe Haden now, would be Cleveland, which desperately needs secondary help. However, if Kansas City takes an OT, we see them passing on Eric Berry. Eric Berry >> Joe Haden, which leads Cleveland to take Berry, and Jacksonville taking Haden.
Denver: Let's assume that Brandon Marshall is not traded. That eliminates any Dez Bryant conversation. So, you say, they'll take Dan Williams, NT and McClain will fall to us, and we'll call it a day. Not really. They signed DE/DT's Justin Bannan and Jarvis Green, and NT Jamal Williams. Dan Williams is the top rated NT in the draft, but his positional value overrates his actual talent, so I doubt they'll invest a top pick in their stacked D-line on him.
Now let's assume that Brandon Marshall IS traded. Well, there ya go, they'll pick Dez Bryant and we're good. Well, we'd better hope that whoever they trade with picks behind us. Denver isn't willing to trade Marshall for anything less than a 1st, and he's got a 1st round tender. The main contender for Marshall is Seattle, and guess what? Seattle picks before us twice. They'll use one pick on Bryant and the other to shore up their other needs. They've got bigger needs at OG/OC, but there's no value that early. Same with rush linebacker, and so ILB will be the pick. Denver will more then likely pick McClain
...With that being said, I'm off the Brian Price bandwagon and am jumping on the 'Spoon wagon. We can trade down, but the only prospect that I feel will still be on the board at the time worth trading up for will be Derrick Morgan.
We could stand pat and pick him up. An unlikely partner would be the Eagles, but they'd have to give up a 1st and 2nd to move up to pick up Morgan. A more likely scenario is the Falcons, who need a pass rusher, giving up a 1st and a 3rd to move from 19 to 15. We'd then be able to pick up Weatherspoon or even Price at number 19.
UPDATE: Denver has just released ILB Andra Davis....well, the writing's pretty much on the wall...Rolando McClain very well could be going to Denver

Here are my thought
1) A guy should never say/type YAY! Doesnt need further explanation.
2) I dont think the Raiders will have any interest in McClain. He isnt a reach pick and doesnt have a great 40. If they do maybe they would be inclined to move Morrison for something less than a 3rd so good for us.
3) I would rather trade down w/Falcons. I dont want to trade with the Iggles in the first round and help them get a player they covet.
haha I know
but if McClain DID fall to us, I’d be screaming YAYYAAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!! and go weak in the knees and do other feminine things as well

Lot of land mines in there
don’t forget the Niners. I’ve read they like the whole BPA thing, and while they have the real Spikes, Takeo….he’s old and pairing Willis with Insane McClain could be deadly…like mid 80’s Giants good, with Carson and Pep back there.
McClain may be a 3-4 ILB, but the good thing about that is that its really not a real valuable position with a 3-4 team.
I still think he’s going to Miami. Dansby is more of the coverage ILB, and I’ve read that McClain is better in run support, more of a downhill guy like a former Bama MLB Demeco Ryans.
Terrence Cody’s draft stock may be better then ever.. as is Big Dan Williams. Denver and Miami come from that (or are ) that Parcels mantra on D…I’m sure they’d love a Vince Wilfork in there.
Not gonna get my hopes up, tho they’re still high.
I say wait at #15. If no McClain, either BPA it or trade back if possible.
IF the Eagles want Derrick Morgan..Fk them, Morgan’s a Giant.

I hear ya bro
but as far as Niners go, part of BPA includes positional value. They’ll pick up Trent Williams or Anthony Davis before they pick McClain due to OT >>>>>>>>>>>> ILB in terms of positional value.
As far as Miami goes, I think they’d rather get a rush lb like Kindle (tho he’s not 1st rd value) or pick up Dez Bryant, or Earl Thomas cuz their safeties aren’t very good and its a big need.
As for iggles, as much as i agree with the whole FCK THE IGGLES, I say if they want to sell the farm for one player, let them. Despite my sig, i’ve got faith that Reese’ll make em pay with that 2nd rounder.

Oh and Denver has Jamal Williams
So idk if they’re gonna use their 1st on an NT. I feel like they’ll prolly go after Cam Thomas in the 2nd.

He's just a backup in Denver
they got Justin Bannon too…again, a backup.
I agree, they probably don’t go for Mt. Cody.
…The Niners have 2 first rounders, and conceivably, they could get that RT (they need a RT, not a LT) or even a guy like Iupati who they may target, at #17.
Just throwing it out there, cuz its not out of the question that the Niners take him.
The only teams I think we can throw out of the McClain sweepstakes are the top 4 and Seattle. Even the Bills could use this sort of difference maker

I agree
except that the 3-4 teams will likely go NT first.
KC- needs too many pieces to consider an ILB. NT is one of the biggest needs.
Cleveland- QB, FS, CB are their top needs. They just landed Scott Fulita to play alongside D’quell Jackson at ILB
OAK- Where do you start? First, they need a GM that can wrest the reins from Al Davis if they ever want to be a real contender again. After that, LT, NT, RT
JAX- There biggest need is ticket sales. When the team recruits Tony Boselli to appeal to business owners by saying it’s their responsibility to buy season’s tickets, you get the feeling they won’t be in Jacksonville that much longer. After that, they need a FS, OC, OG and I’d get a younger DE than Kampman if they want to compete in 2010.
Denver- QB, WR, OC * a receiving TE far outweigh their need for an ILB.
MIA- has to wait 8 games for “Old Man” Ferguson, so they need a NT BAD. They should just forget it if they don’t stock up on a young replacement. They got the ILB they were looking for in Dansby. Also, with Porter gone and Taylor a ?, they need a rushing OLB and I think his name is Weatherspoon. They need a #1 WR pretty bad, a FS, CB and a pass catching TE. You gotta help Henne out with some weapons.
That’s not saying a team won’t jump on him, but the need of a NT outweighs most positions on a 3-4 defense as you simply can’t succeed without one. It’s very very possible “Ro” falls to us.
Bleeding Blue since 1962
Weatherspoon would be a real bad fit as a rush LB, in the 3-4 he’s a ILB only.
Brandon Graham is most likely if they’re going rush LB

good thought.
I’m not sure about Spoon, but thay could easily see it differently, in this case. Parcells has been looking for that type since he left Dallas and his boy, DeMarcus.
Bleeding Blue since 1962
Maybe, Maybe not!
He has more sacks than most of our favored backers in this draft class so i think he can rush the passer
But dont tell em i told you that !!!!!
6"1 240lbs is not going to cut it as a 3-4 OLB.

I guess...
I dunno…I just feel kinda pessimistic about our chances now that Andra Davis was released. Denver seems in line to get him. We can just hope and pray I guess
Jerry Reese = Omar Minaya?
by BigBlueIntervention on Mar 11, 2010 5:03 PM EST up reply actions
I don’t think Denver will get him regardless of Davis
First of all they already have a first rounder invested in an inside linebacker in DJ Williams. 2nd of all they rotated Davis with Wesley Woodyard (who they like) in on passing downs. So would they use the 11th pick in the draft on a 2 down LB (in their system) when they have still have huge holes at NT and the offense is terrible? They might actually move up to get Clausen if he falls below Seattle anyways.
by mclaren_is_the_best on Mar 11, 2010 5:13 PM EST up reply actions
Williams and Fields are perfectly doable at NT for the Broncos.
It all hinges on what they do at WR. Now that Bryant is off the market, they’ll wait to see what they can get for Marshall. If they get the #1 they’re looking for, we might be in trouble. Otherwise, Dez Bryant doesn’t make it past them.
Bleeding Blue since 1962
Wow I didn't think Fields is so young
I thought he was also in his 30s. Williams is a fossil so I don’t think he is there to do more than spell Fields occasionally. But still I think there are much better options for them than McClain. (if Haden drops or maybe even Spiller they will have to think hard and long about it)
by mclaren_is_the_best on Mar 11, 2010 5:39 PM EST up reply actions
Fields was doing well half way into the season
then seemed to get dominated like he wore down. I think it was a perfect move on Denver’s part to get Williams. I believe they are going to bias towards addressing the offensive side of the ball this draft. Orton is most likely not the answer and the Marshall issue has to be settled, soon.
Bleeding Blue since 1962
yeah, they allowed like 900 yards rushing in december
Don’t know what happened
by mclaren_is_the_best on Mar 11, 2010 5:55 PM EST up reply actions
And now that i've been thinking
with the Rolle signing, trading up with the Jaguars makes even more sense. They could still get Morgan or JPP at 15, we get Ro at 10 and we give them our 2nd that they could use on Tebow which is a perfect spot for him. Then we either trade 3s or they give us theirs and we have a great deal. We don’t NEED to come out of the draft with an S anymore and there will still be some good DT’s in the 3rd round that we could groom for the future.
Also we get these players out of our way because I’m sure the Jags would rather face McClain this year and then not deal with him for the next 3 rather than have him go up against MJD almost every year if he went to the Fins or Broncos and we won’t have to deal with Morgan possibly dropping to the Eagles or Falcons or some other NFC team.
by mclaren_is_the_best on Mar 11, 2010 6:00 PM EST up reply actions
JAX doesn't have another opick until round 3
It would be more in the benefit of the Jags than us unless they’ll take our #1 & #3. Even then, I’ve got to question JR on this one because he’s always treasured his picks.
They want Tebow to help boost ticket sales. Maybe they’ve got someone on their roster that would make giving up a pick palatable for JR.
Bleeding Blue since 1962
yeah, that is what I meant
give them our 2 so they can get tebow and we either get their 3 or we at least trade our 3 with their 3.
In terms of players I can’t think of any that could help the Giants but then again I don’t know much about their roster.
by mclaren_is_the_best on Mar 11, 2010 6:26 PM EST up reply actions
JAX has got no real player of interest
at least from what I can see.
I think we talk to Denver about Hixon and a swap of first rounders. The Broncos could use a speedster and Hix has been buried on Specials. With the depth we have at WR and the fact that Hixon has not been consistent as a KR/PR he becomes expendable, as much as I like him.
We could pick up Akwasi Owusu-Ansah CB from Indiana of Pennsylvania and Deji Kareem RB from Southern Illinois as both depth at CB and a speedy, explosive, change of pace RB along with both being return specialists.
Bleeding Blue since 1962
No way man
Hixon is a nobody in the league, I doubt you would be able to trade him for more than a 5th.
by mclaren_is_the_best on Mar 12, 2010 4:47 PM EST up reply actions
He's a fairly good returner
but the Karim kid averaged 35.11 yds. Someone would want Hixon if the price was low enough.
Bleeding Blue since 1962
If we pick Morgan ...
do you think it’s with a deal for Osi in the wings for some later picks ?
I have a feeling that we're not even considering moving Osi at his current rate of pay
It’s currently a steal for us to have a player that, even if he wants out, would have to play for a new contract. He’s smart enough to know that he wouldn’t draw the dollars at 2009’s production level. If he doesn’t nearly double his output this year, we still get him for cheap. If he does, everybody’s happy.
Bleeding Blue since 1962
Let me ask a question.
Say KP has a set back and after the 1st week Rolle gets a high ankle sprain or Aaron Ross disease (perpetually pulled hamstring). Does anybody want to see the back of Brown and Johnson’s jersey chasing Desean Jackson again??? I still want a S in the first couple rounds. I cant take another year like last year. I cant do it…..
In the 3rd...
we could possibly go for Morgan Burnett, Reshad Jones, Major Wright, etc…this is a DEEP safety class…
Jerry Reese = Omar Minaya?
by BigBlueIntervention on Mar 11, 2010 4:41 PM EST up reply actions
yea, there’s plenty of safeties in this class.
Could even wait till round 5 in this one and be just fine with it. The need isn’t as drastic as it was before.
I’d still have no problem with Earl Thomas in the first too, if he’s BPA.

by FreeBradshaw on Mar 11, 2010 4:57 PM EST up reply actions
Jones
I think Reshad Jones would be a great pick! Good cover safety and a big hitter!
by Slingblade10 on Mar 14, 2010 11:16 AM EDT up reply actions
The issue was
that brown and johnson were starting together, even if KP goes dwn again we have Rolle out there to play deep and make plays on the ball. I think they will be fine just like if KP was healthy last year. things wouldve looked different.
But dont tell em i told you that !!!!!
if CC sees more playing time
than ME this season, I will be beligerantly pissed off. This guy was the reason i was usually blind drunk by the 4th quarter. He needs to find another career and we need to stop mentioning him my blood pressure just went up like 30 pts
All those teams have other pressing needs
and Mcclain is special but i would take care of my pressing needs first, there are other quality mike backers in this draft…………..i do think denver is salavating over mcclain tho. The Giants are pretty lucky so it sould happen look where we go KP, AR, Nicks, all players who fell to the bottom of round 1 so @ 15 we will get someone we didnt expect again i believe………….we might even be in a position to grab one of those DT’s or eric berry if we want to trade up a little bit.
But dont tell em i told you that !!!!!
We do seem to get lucky...
that’s more us drafting intelligently, and other GMs drafting stupidly…but as of right now, I feel like LB is a bigger need than DT, though that is very debatable
Jerry Reese = Omar Minaya?
by BigBlueIntervention on Mar 11, 2010 4:42 PM EST up reply actions
I agree
And like i said before the raiders will offset the draft like they always do, that is what always starts the the ripple effect, Al davis will do something crazy like take a player no one was even thinking about and then Viola! Eureka! someone falls to us we didnt expect.
But dont tell em i told you that !!!!!
I think DT is a bigger need than most people
but there really aren’t any suitable players in the #15 range for us, Price’s stock has fallen after the combine, he is unlikely to be selected in the top 30 now, Dan Williams has not fit their philosophy of the last 10-15 years and Odrick is a huge reach.
If someone like McCoy starts falling and we pick him up I think he will make a bigger difference that any MLB or S we draft now but thats very unlikely.
by mclaren_is_the_best on Mar 11, 2010 5:16 PM EST up reply actions
Just sayin davis could draft anyone
Even a QB you never know. I will breathe much easier if they draft Taylor Mays.
My thing is
if this guy came out last year all this buzz does not exist, he would still be 1st round but all this Mcclain sweepstakes stuff is crazy, cushing didnt even have all this buzz.
But dont tell em i told you that !!!!!
McClain was a sophmore last year…
He’s a junior this year, unlike say…..Cushing who was a senior.
That’s why there’s all this buzz. Unlike most of these guys, he is the best LB in this years crop AND he’s a JUNIOR….a 20 y/o junior at that (never redshirted).

Rolondo won't fall to us, so
I say, and I don’t think it is a surprise to anyone, take weatherspoon. We have pretty solid starting DT’s. So I don’t think we need one in the first. Other than spoon I don’t know who we should pick that won’t be used for just depth. No one is taking Osi,Tuck or Kiwi’s spot. No one is taking Webster, Ross or Thomas’s spot(Maybe Ross). We can get a quality number 4 safety in the 4th or 5th. Other than spoon I can only see picking one of the three Olineman but I don’t think they’ll make it to 15.
All of those positions you mentioned are solid...When Healthy***
Who cares if “no one is taking their spot”…come November and December, when those injuries start piling up, I’d rather have ome quality depth especially at DT.

if mcclains not there (probably wont be but im hopping) take weatherspoon. we need one of them tho.
second round id take a C/G. O’Hara is great but hes getting old and we have NO ONE else who can play Center.
third round id still like to use on morrison.
fourth and fifth round we could get a pretty decent depth safety and defensive lineman.
in the sixth and seventh id take K/P and any other play we can find that can be of some use..
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
my wish list
for our position in the draft.
1. McClain- obviously
2. Spiller
3.Thomas
4. Spoon
5.Campbell / Iupati
good list...
but why Cambpell?
Maybe our OL coach can make him into the GOAT with his athleticism, but I mean…he’s the Jason Pierre-Paul/Taylor Mays of Offensive tackles.
Highly boom or bust right there.

the first round
No McClain … is Spoon a reach? I think the Gs go OL. You gotta know the OL gets hurt this year it’s been a miraculous run.
Prioritizing needs:
1. LB
2. OL
3, S
4. DT
You play to win the game!
Trade down and Get Morrison
Well if we trade with falcons we can use one of our 3rd round picks to sign morrison. But still if Mcclain is there then its no point of tradeing down.
