Draft a MLB?
I have no problem with this but unless these top 2 MLBs decide not to run the 40 or any other drills at their pro day we will never see the measuring stick on their abilities. Obviously the Combine isn't the end all of who we are drafting but it would be nice to see what they can do if we are going to take them in the first round. McClain and Spikes, get in shape and run on you pro day please! Them sitting out the combine might be in their best interest but not in the Giants. There is plenty of MLBs in free agency that we can get, I'd rather draft a beast, but if these guys are scared to run drills then I am scared to draft them. So that being said thank god it's not me drafting. Anyone else disappointed they didn't participate?

Spikes and McClain no go in the 40 at combine
So to me that means they are slow.
McClain maybe 4.8
Spikes the same maybe 4.9
A big warning sign. All those guys had to do was run 4.75 to make everyone go OOOH.
Weatherspoon
Watched him run the 40
Don’t care about the time, he looked like a MIKE to me.
Thick, thick young man, looked built to play inside. then they showed his highlights at Senior Bowl. I was extremely impressed with clip of him picking up McCluster on a wheel route and making a picture perfect play.
Right now, I’d add him to my list of guys they could take at #15 and I have no problem with it. His leadership, size and skill level will make him a very solid NFL player.
Good.
More the reason…at least given until their pro days…that McClain falls to the Giants.
Lemme tell you…I don’t give a crap what this man runs, I saw him plenty at Bama. He’s not slow.
If he miraculously runs a 5.75 40…he’s not that slow.
Master of the squeegee
Never watched him in the games, but
It’s something like 90 plays he was involved in at Auburn, Florida, and Ole Miss. I know absolutely nothing about analyzing players but he seems slow and unwieldy. And he has no idea how to tackle… Guys like P Willis from the 49ers had that form tackling down pat, even in college.
I dunno about that.
Whatever….I guess many are gonna start knocking McClain now, I ain’t…but whatever.
I hope he does get knocked and falls right into the Giants laps. He aint slow (many of those are in slow motion anyway…), I saw him plenty in games and he ain’t slow.
…Also, he’s 20 years old, a junior. As elite as he is, he’s more of a potential type player.

weatherspoon or mcclain would be great picks for the giants
but i see the giants drafting a defensive linemen. thats how this team works, building from the inside out, starting with both offensive and defensive lines. last year the defense wasnt getting pressure and what happened? they fell apart and the giants finished 8-8. two years ago when strahan, tuck and osi were running around like madmen what happened? the giants won a super bowl. osi isnt going anywhere so that means theres still umenyiora, tuck, and kiwanuka at DE, so i think this pick has to be a defensive tackle, and brian price or dan williams are my best guesses as to who the giants are going to pick.

safety vs MLB. I say safety round 1
You’re right. Safeties are beginning to be more and more important in the NFL due to most teams becoming pass happy and offensive formations forcing your safeties to cover one-on-one. This recent article on NFL.com explains it: http://www.nfl.com/combine/story?id=09000d5d816aa093&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true
On the latest article on this site, people are talking whether or not the giants should draft a year ahead (as in draft an OL or DE) OR, draft an ILB or a safety.
i say safety round 1. problem is, does earl thomas fit big blue? people say due to his size and tackling style, he won’t be able to play vs the run because he’ll be injury prone in the NFL (similar to barry sanders). if so, than earl thomas can play strictly FS or his tackling style can be fixed with coaching.
if the giants dont feel good about earl thomas, than they could either: trade down & get a linebacker or draft a year ahead (go offensive line or defensive end). i really dont know what the heck is going to happen obviously. i dont want the giants to trade up and get eric berry or mcclain (if mcclain falls past 10, there may be an exception).
Yeah, Earl Thomas hasn't impressed me when hes played in-the-box type of safety role
but that is OK, as long as he is knocking balls out of receivers hands and getting picks he will be a good player. Kenny Phillips is a little bit bigger and stronger so he would be the one who lines up next to the ’backers in an 8 man front.
