Does Cofield stay?
With Fred Robbins and Barry Cofield set to become free agents, it's pretty much a given that Robbins will not be on this team in 2010, and with so much talk about the Giants taking a DT in the draft, are the Giants going to bring back Cofield? I guess only time will tell. If the Giants do decide to hang on to Barry, I believe a DT in the first round isn't going to be likely with the roster at DT being Chris Canty, Barry Cofield, Rocky Bernard (if he's lucky enough to stay on the team), and don't forget about Jay Alford. That would give the Giants an opportunity to go after a LB or DB in the first round, two other areas in need of immediate attention. However, if Cofield is allowed to walk, DT sounds like it would almost assuredly be the Giants first round selection.

Bernard and Robbins
will hopefully both be gone, Cofield isn’t going anywhere. My prediction is that we go BPA at S or DT in the 1st, unless we trade up to grab McClain. I can’t imagine that Cofield would be allowed to walk, unless they go the FA route again and grab Wilfork or someone of that nature.
Awaiting the draft :/
Yes, Cofield is a RFA
No way the giants let him walk

Especially
since he seemed to turn the corner late in the season in recovering from knee surgery.
Case for Keeping Cofield
Everyone, including me, expects Robbins and Bernard to be gone. If Cofield also departs, that leaves Alford, who is coming off a knee injury, Canty, who was also hurt last year and didn’t look that good when he played (and in any case was supposed to be part of the DE rotation), plus draft choices and whoever is available in free agency. Too risky – Reese would face the possibility of another 2009.
I think he resigns Cofield and drafts a DT in the first or second round. If he can solidify the DL, the back seven will look better right away.
Of course, solidifying the DL also requires improved play at DE…
Mickey C
Improved Tuck and Osi
Hopefully Tuck’s shoulder will be 100%, and Osie will gain some of his explosiveness back and overcome any of the “mental aspects” that may have lingered after recovering from his knee injury.
Awaiting the draft :/

Cofield stays.
Bernard and unfortunately Robbins…go.
You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you are going, because you might not get there
at what price???
This guy is not exactly a probowler. If there is a chance to upgrade than that’s what they need to do. Alford is an upgrade Price or another 1st rounder may be better. So i think we are in for a long wait and see with Cofield. Can we trade for a fat tack, (Wilfork)? Do we draft and get young?… or once all other options are gone do we resign? Rebuilding seems stupid in an uncapped year, so i say buy trade steal pillage and mortgage the future cause we may not have football in 2011 get all the talent we can and go for it
Cofield was the Giants best DL in 2009....
he’s an RFA, so I’m fairly certain all they have to do is give him a RFA tender…its not that much.
You don’t get rid of Cofield either…they can’t be getting rid of talented lineman like that.
You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you are going, because you might not get there
Not only tender him, but work on a long term deal.
I’ll admit, I was never a Barry Cofield fan because I only looked at the numbers and highlights and idnt ever see anything spectacular. But now I see that he’s more vital to the giants D more than I and others think. As long as he continues to recover from surgery and improve his strength and technique, I say we try to work on a deal to keep him in New York for maybe 4 or 5 more years, as long as the price isn’t outrageous.
Cofield stays
And benard better be gone. I think if the d line can stay healthy then I think we will be fine

He'll be back no doubt
don’t be surprised if we trade down get a guy like Odrick at a late 1 and get Geno atkins or someone else later
keep cofield...
it’s a no brainer IMO…we have enough holes to plug as it is…while i agree we could still use a DT, it’s not nearly as mission critical as finding a S or MIKE…or OT for that matter.
