Pat Angerer?
The guy isn't horrible. I think this Angerer would be a solid late 2nd to mid 3rd round pick. He flies around the football extremely well (Although its concerning how only half of his tackles are solo) and rarely misses tackles.
And seeing how, I assume, the Giants will play zone defense more often than not, Pat Angerer seems to fit that bill perfectly. He has 16 passes defensed in his two years as a starter. And 6 of the passes defensed, were INTs.
The only thing I hear that is keeping him from being drafted high, would be the fact that he is slightly undersized for a ILB (but he supposedly makes up for it with great insincts), needs to gain some weight, and might have "looked better than he is" because he played with an elite defense. Here's a video of some of his highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NpRbgzYTY0
I'd say he's underrated. I'm only posting this to see what you guys think. I can't find too much on this guy so I'm hoping someone might know more about him that I don't know. Think he would look good in Big Blue and contribute right away, or at least compete with Goff in training camp? Of course assuming a guy like McClain is out of reach. Oh and he's a natural MLB, something guys like Daryl Washington, aren't.

Angerer makes plays
plain and simple. Plus…his name is Angerer. Who doesn’t want a MLB named Angerer?
Is there better options? Probably. But if he was the dude they ended up with?
Say….
CJ Spiller
Nate Allen
Arthur Jones
Pat Angerer?
…Boom.
i empower my cheerios to live in fear by creating an environment of irrational random terror
PAT ANGERER.
Angerer is a good pick up in late rounds
and next year can even be a starter he isnt that under sized
Angerer-6ft 235
Patrick Willis-6"1’ 240
Angerer reminds me of Gary Brackett who fits well in Tampa2
my draft would look like this
Earl Thomas S
Lamarr Houston DT
Pat Angerer MLB
Arthur Jones DT
Micah Johnson MLB

2 DT’s and 2 MLB’s?
We got Alford coming back and Goff is still alive.

I agree with the MLB’s but drafting 2 DT’s would make us have 4DT’s Alford(coming off knee surgery), Coffeld and the 2 drafted I think of Canty as a guy who be play through out the Dline to give guys a rest(like Tuck did during the superbowl year).

Canty's a DT..
He’s not a DE. He’ll see time there probably, but with Alford back he may not have to..maybe Alford does?
I wouldn;‘t mind 2 DT’s, but not that early.
Drafting an offensive lineman is basically a must this year. I’d rather they wait till the 6th or seventh to double up on a position.

Uhhh, doubt that
He was terrible whenever he played and he was even a healthy scratch for a few games at the end of the year

Doubt what you like..
but with the contract situation and him coming off an injury they will most likely give him a shot to prove whether it was an abherration or not. I, personally, would like to see him go and a young stud step in, but I don’t, and never have, worked for the front office.

Bernard isn't coming off an injury
and his big salary is another reason why he will not be there next year
by mclaren_is_the_best on Feb 22, 2010 6:36 PM EST up reply actions
Bernard was on the Non-football injury list for a hamstring last year.
and the word from the training staff is that he never recovered completely, especially because he got out of shape in the offseason and while injured.
The Giants are “old school” and generally subscribe to the rule of not having an injury cost a guy his job. We haven’t seen him play for us at 100%, he is in the second year of a 4 year deal, and we obviously saw something we liked when we decided to offer him a contract.
That being said, they are probably going to approach him about restructuring his deal with an incentive laden work up. If he refuses, he’ll be hard pressed to get anything close to what he will get with us, coming off such an unproductive season. He’s got nothing guaranteed, so we could, in theory, cut our losses. It would just be a huge departure from how the front office has traditionally dealt with players in the second year of a mutli-year deal.

I don't like this guy
Might as well keep Goff and use that pick on OT or DT or whatever

Can't tell if he would translate to the pro game to be honest.
but at mlb if it ain’t Mcclain in this draft then the rest seem to be of a similar quality. Also have to comment on the guys who posted lists above….first off I don’t like Arthur Jones until atleast the 4th rd.We don’t need more injury prone guys on our D-line at all esp in the rounds that you can find guys to play right away.Secondly, sorry Free but Spiller won’t even be there at 15 and I think if we are going to add an RB early it would be Dwyer or Matthews. However we will look to add OL somewhere in the first 3 rounds so taking an RB also would be shortchanging the D.We will go RT kind of early I feel.Wish we had more picks and trading back would be great if Mcclain or Buluga isn’t there at 15.
why do people insist that Arthur Jones is injury prone?
He’s not…not at all. He got injured, yes. But he’s not injury prone.
He got hurt lifiting weights before the season, but did nothing all season to show that he wasn’t a first round pick.
His late season knee injury has made him not a first rounder…but to say he’s any less ready then any DT in the draft no named McCoy or Suh is false.
He’s probably healthy before the draft, so there. If the GIants don’t go DL in the 1st 2 round and Jones is there in the 3rd? They could be getting the 3rd most talented DT in the draft…which I thought he was during the season.
…I though Jones was as talented as any DT not named Big Suh…

Jones is a great player, In the 3rd round I think he would be great value
Especially if there aren’t any suitable RT’s

I hope i never see Kevin Boothe play RT for us,and would like to keep Diehl inside.
Also Beatty is definitely LT not RT.Angerer would be sweet in the 4th.
oh whoa, slow down buddy
the last time Boothe was at RT Eli got sacked 12 times in 1 game IIRC

1st time poster
Hey All, this is my 1st post. This site is my first read of the day with morning coffee. I enjoy everyones knowledge and passion for our G-men, as being out west, our kind are few and far between. I’ll try not to embarrass myself or my fellow fans too much.
I will start with my basic assumptions and hopes(if’s) going into this draft with a new DC. I trust Fewell will ;
A. Instill a D that the players will go for, that he has more to offer than BS.
B. Get improved play from at least 1 CB and 1 safety.( DBs are his specialty?)
As far as current roster personnel goes:
A. Canty, Osi, Alford, Ross and (with crossed fingers) KP return at or near 100%.
And finally, the NYG organization ( JR, TC and ownership ) get on the same page and show some willingness to make some minor moves in the draft.
A. Stop drafting QBs. 2 at #5 the last 2 years.
B. Realize that they have no eye for DB talent in the later rounds. (Wright and Woodson)
With that as an overview to my thoughts on this years draft, I will state that I fully agree with getting a MLB is #1 priority. Also his name is McClain. I am not stuck on that though. We only need to move up a couple of spots to get him, maybe. He could slip, but not likely. There are 2 teams that need a QB, Buff and Jax. An offer of Carr and our 1st pick for thiers? Not a far drop for them and it solves a big positional need at the most important postion. Am I over estimating Carr’s value? We then grab McClain. If no takers and McClain doesn’t drop to us, trade down in the 1st and pick up an extra 2nd. Perhaps Angerer in 3rd, then. Just don’t panic and grab another tweener. I believe Carr has to hold some trade value, perhaps a 2nd or 3rd straight up.
Addressing the secondary, this year seems to have a ton of DB talent. Going on the above mentioned scenario, we either have our MLB and an extra 2nd, (Carr traded), or we have a late 1st and two-three 2nds. Either way, at least 3 picks. I say pull a 1981 49ers strategy were they took Lott, Wright and Willianson in the first 65 picks. We only need 2 DBs, IMO, a CB & safety, and they cetainly would be available at end of 1st and beginning of 2nd rounds. Hey, we still have another 2nd and a 3rd, or two 3rds to use, based on what occurred reference Carr. I would not be opposed to trading any/all of the 5-7 round picks to get and extra 3rd or 4th. Though I admit I don’t understand the value system on picks. At this point, late 2nd-early 3rd round, we go for MLB ( Angerer), O-line, DT and a RB. I do believe we need another RB in camp with the injuries to all 3 of our guys, plus Hedgecocks surgery.
As a last option for getting an upgrade in round 1, or and extra early second, if trading Carr were not to workout, I would not be opposed to trading Osi. Jacksonville does need pass rushers, too. With Tuck, Kiwi and Sintim, plus Tollefson, we have quite a few DE/OLB, while still having no MLB. Osi has been a stud, but sell now, if possible, rather than wait and see another off year go by. This , of course, only if nothing came to fruition with moving Carr.
So, hopefully this makes some sense and doesn’t smell of crazy or unrealistic. I just feel that 5-6 picks in 1st 4-5 rounds would help take advantage of the amount of talent at DB and fill the MLB postion with either a great or very good player, while getting value for one or two players on the roster. FA also could help with at least one or two needs, which I’m all for. I didn’t mention specific players names, outside the 2 MLBs, as Wilson, Haden, etc, are known to you all.
Thanks for reading, just don’t cut my sack completely off.
Carr
Carr is an unrestricted free agent and is likely to leave

And yeah, you’re probably overrating him – he was a free agent last year and nobody else wanted to sign him so he came back to us, I doubt that this year out of nowhere a team would give a high pick for him. It’s not like he did a Hostetler and lead the team to the SB or anything else that lead other potential trading teams to think he will be worth the draft picks
