Antonio Cromartie anyone?
Rumor has it the San Diego Chargers are looking to deal Cromartie for a running back due to Sproles being a FA and LT most likely being cut. So I ask you Brandon Jacobs for Cromartie?
I love Jacobs just like the rest of you but we could use one more piece in the secondary especially if Dockery is no longer a Giant (which I won't be upset with). Maybe this can move Ross to Safety full-time. This injury thing has really bothered me with Jacobs. The draft class is also pretty deep with running backs.
Here are my RB targets in order in the 2010 draft:
CJ Spiller- I live 10 minutes outside of Clemson and I attended a lot of games in the past four years. He is absolutely phenomenal and if he is available at #15 I don't see how you can pass him up. He would be a better receiver out of the backfield than Ward and/or Barber and I think the Giants really miss that element. This would also allow us to release Hixon who just doesn't seem to play with any passion. Spiller is a better return man than, dare I say, Devin Hester in his hay day. You can't pass up a game-changer like this.
Dexter McCluster- I know the size scares you but honestly he runs with more power than most backs in the SEC. He repeatedly put up gaudy numbers (when he actually got the ball) against the top defenses in the country. I may be bias because I'm an Ole Miss fan but again he's a game-changer like Spiller and he is a threat not only rushing but receiving and returning too. I've never see a player with more passion, drive, and determination than the Lil Bastid.
Anthony Dixon from MSU and Ryan Matthews from Fresno State would also be nice pick-ups in the draft to team with Ahmad Bradsaw and Andre Brown (if he can ever be healthy).

My gut tells me you might get blasted here for this one...
…but if I were the Giants I’d do that deal yesterday.
blasted
I dont like this idea, people take for granted what Jacobs does for this offense and the running backs behind him (just ask Ward in Tampa) Im not taking anything away from Bradshaw, but Jacobs, whether he is getting yards or not, beats up and wears down the line, and then they bring in Ward/Bradshaw/Ware. If you started one of these guys without Jacobs they are not putting up the numbers they do when Jacobs starts, again, just ask Ward in Tampa
Agreed
I’d HATE to see Jake in another uniform destroying linebackers

Meh....
if we’re talking about a safety and a pick..OK.
AC’s not a safety. An no..moving TT to safety isn’t an option.
AC’s not all that good anyway.

too much
Jacobs won’t bring a safety and a pick…you’re asking for the moon
never said TT was moving to safety. I love him as a corner.
AC is better than most. Webster,Thomas,Cromartie would be a hell of a tandem. You can never have enough corner in the NFL now with all the spreads and 4/5 wide sets.
Jacobs played injured for money- that much I know..he also got in to too many unneccesary shuffles on the field. He wasn’t the same last year and honestly I don’t know if he will be what we thought we had.
We need to shuffle both backfields up. Period.
That’s not a tandem…
We’re giving up a battering ram RB, who was injured since the first game of the year. He’s always injured..yes.
And I agree, we need to shuffle up the backfield…but the shuffle needs to include Jacobs.
Cromartie is a physical freak like Jacobs, but unlike Jake….it doesn’t seem to translate other then a few kick returns.
The idea makes sense..to shuffle the backfield and get a big talented DB.
But it creates a gaping hole at RB.
..pass.

No
Jacobs for AC? not a chance. the bruiser needs to stay. he played all year on a f-ed up knee. it had to hurt to walk nevermind run over 300lb d-lineman. jacobs will be beastin people in 2010 like he has the past few years (except 2009 of course) CB isnt a real need for this team, with TT, Ross, C-Webb were fine.
Is it baseball season yet??

oh ya jacobs didnt soften anybody up 4 bradshaw this year. and had he been healthy, he goes 4 well over a grand.
lets not forget...
Jacobs had over 800 yards on a banged up knee, that he just went under the knife for. Why are we so quick to turn on all the players after one 8-8 year
1. the guy makes 2 much money and this is the time to get out from under bad deals. ---- b. he gets hurt every year, yes every year.
I guess
I guess if he is hurt every year, then he puts up some decent numbers for a hurt guy. Its easy to say you can do without a player, while you still have them, you would see how different it would be for Bradshaw and Ware if Jacobs wasnt there. But then again we dont have to worry about that, the Giants organization dont make rash decisions
rash decisions....
this is the year for rash decisions. you get a free pass to clean up for past mistakes. now if reese wants to save face and keep jacobs thats a different story.its already started D cord. MLB. and so on…. we all know alot of decisions will be made and some will be rash..
where does it end
why dont we trade Eli Manning while we are at it, he gets hurt sometimes and throws interceptions and he has a big contract
tuck
Tuck hurt his shoulder and didnt play up to his potential, lets trade him
Cowboy Troy

Eh
Cromartie is overrated. He looked awful back in the 2008 season. He claims he was playing with a broken hip but it looks like to me he was exposed since the Chargers had lack of pressure on the QB that year.
charges have no pass rush since merrimann got hurt 2 years ago.
any corner will look exposed with lack of pressure. just look in are own back yard.
Cromartie is awful
But that isn’t too bad of a trade, if Cromartie’s ego allows him to play nickel then ok but for starting corners TT and Webster are miles better
by mclaren_is_the_best on Feb 17, 2010 2:36 PM EST reply actions
sooo...
Now we are trading our starting RB for a nickel CB?
its simple. the badness of are D was historic.
look what was left in are secondary. 3 out of starters hurt and the fourth benched. that cant happen again. unless we are ok with giving up 400 + pionts.
If we were talking about a DT then OK
Our CB’s are not really the problem. Cromartie’s no less injury prone then Aaron Ross…so I really don’t see the point of this.
Better off drafting a mid to low round CB and throwing him out there, like Trevard Lindley like was in the prospect profile yesterday.
Cromartie’s not that good and not getting any younger.
..really, this makes no sense.
If we’re trading for a player…why not trade for a need position such as S/MLB/DT?
And if we’re creating a gaping hole at RB…why are we not getting an extra pick back so we can fill that RB need?
I AM SOFA KING!!!

also agree here...
this trade senerio just doesnt make sense
this allows us 2 stick ross at safety if need be . lets us match up with the eagles better.
it lets use do alot of things if hit buy the injury bug. is ross ok ?. is CW ok ? is KP ok? i dont like all the ?s
How about this one?
Is Cromartie OK?
That’s also a factor..Cromartie’s no less injury prone then Aaron Ross.
..We’re trading the Juggernaut for a more athletic Aaron Ross to be in the rotation with 4CB’s (or maybe one is a safety)?
…how’s about we keep Jacobs, watch him turn back into the JUGGERNAUT..draft a safety……
…and let the Chargers deal with the injury prone Cromartie?

good point, buttttt.
jacobs the biggest dog in the fight but comes out the most banged up. anyone who thinks he isnt a blown out knee waiting 2 happen please stand up. a ticking time bomb.. and when it happens ill wait about 3 seconds before i say " I TOLD YOU SO ".
you try to find a RB or any player that will sign for less then 4 years, this is not the Madden video game, its the real NFL
name one
name me some starting RB that has a contract for less then 4 years?
name me some players that have contracts less then 4 years, 4 years is below average for any starting player
again i dont have that info. anyway it dont matter becouse a player can be cut any time .
its the bonus and garenteed money that matters.
OK FREE
games played last 3 years A crom.2007.-16 .08. 16 .09 -16. …………. jacobs 2007. -11 . 08 . 13 09.-15* hurt since week one " i should of had surgery"
Games played..and stats such as this, only give relevancy to those that either didn't watch the games
or didn’t pay attention to what Cromartie’s situation was.
..just like Aaron Ross. He plays in the games..starts even, but he’s ALWAYS hurt with a hamstring injury.
..isn’t Ross and his perennially injured hamstring enough? I don’t get it….

Ross is still has his rookie contract...
and should he so happen to be healthy, he still is a solid DB even if he’s surpassed by Web and TT.
For real…there’s no sense in getting rid of players who aren’t costing you much.
If anything, draft a player higher then the 6th round and let Ross compete for his spot on the depth chart.
…if a rookie’s the nickel corner and Ross is rotating around at a bunch of spots..and the 4th CB? That’s a hell of a secondary.

i agree in way of cotract.
i just think we need 2 think outside box.im tired of seeing D jackson in my dreams running all around us. crom. in the nickle would be nice
bad trade
this trade would just for some reason attempt to fill a hole that we dont have in our CBs and create a HUGE hole in our RB situation
he doesnt ride the pine
he plays through injuries, he played this season on a bad knee!! go make this trade in your Madden season and live in your fantasy world
very good! im glad 2 see you coming around.
he missed 5 games 07. 3 games 08. and hurt in week 1 this year. i have a idea lets get a back that can play a full year. listen hes a good player, but theres a reason guys like this get red flagged in the draft.
wow
now we are red flagging Brandon Jacobs in the draft? do you read what you write? he missed 3 games in 08 and still put up over 1,000 yards, lets get rid of him!!! you find me one RB that does for this team that Jacobs does and doesnt get hurt, he bangs himself up giving us a power rush, POWER RUSH!
im sorry !you call this guy a "power rusher"
maybe tap dancer. i know . he was hurt. THATS MY POINT!! and the only reason he didnt get surgery is he just signed that deal.other wise he misses 15 games this year. which he should of.because, thats rite.HE SUCKED!!………..“power rush” ha ha…..
Troy...
By his words, Jacobs was hurt in week 1 with a partiall torn MCL…the same one he got surgery on the end of the season.
Yes, it explains why he sucked.
But those things dont’ exactly feel good when your trying to cut, and in most cases, you can’t physically make cuts.
Who’s are starting RB in 2010 if Jake is gone?
It creates a need…when while I think RB is one of our needs, it would push it to #1 need without Jake.
Cromartie’s not that good anyway. Let him go somewhere else and do nothing.
by FreeBradshaw on Feb 19, 2010 12:57 PM EST up reply actions
u dont think r new D cord. can turn this guy
with his 10 ints 2 years ago and his 6’2 frame into a pretty good SS
yea...he could
He could also do that with a rookie or someone like Michael Johnson.
Jacobs could turn into 2007/2008 form too.
Jacobs at his best >> Cromartie at his best.
N O on Cromartie.
by FreeBradshaw on Feb 19, 2010 1:32 PM EST up reply actions
Not at all.
Its about creating a hole at one positon to patch up another.
Trading Jacobs creates a hole at RB. It defeats the purpose.
Cromartie could be good…but who cares? There’s no chance he’s coming here.
by FreeBradshaw on Feb 19, 2010 2:01 PM EST up reply actions
Get it done
This is a no-brainer. Cromartie would come in and start with TT running the nickel. He is a big play waiting to happen, something our entire secondary sorely msses. As much as I love Jacobs, at this stage he is clearly not going to get any better, not to mention the value of a CB trumps the value of a RB. The NFL is a pass happy league now, we could never have enough cover guys.
I Am Tobikan Judan
what?
TT is the Giants best corner.
Antonio Cromartie is NOT better then him….really, its not close.
If anything, Cromartie or Ross are moving to safety.
…isn’t that nice? Maybe between the two of them they can find 2 healthy hamstrings?
PASS

If..
If this trade were made which I highly doubt, they would have to wait until after the draft, too early now. They would have to see what shakes out in the draft, if SD is in a rush
to make a deal now (maybe to avoid some bonus money?)…Let them move along, as I said, don’t see it happening
No
The Giants shouldn’t consider Cromartie because they don’t need him. It’s really that simple. You draft a CB in 2007 in the 1st round in Ross. You don’t give up on him because of one injury-plagued season. Bruce Johnson was an undrafted rookie. He got valuable playing time last year that he can build upon for the future. You draft a CB in 2008 in the 2nd round in Thomas. He had a great year. You have Webster, a 2nd round pick in 2005, who is still very good. Where are you going to put Cromartie, who will want to start?
There’s a reason why SD would like to trade him. He gave up more yards and more receptions than all of our CBs except for Dockery, who I don’t think will be back. He’s also really soft at tackling, especially against the run. He ranks behind the top 4 Giants CBs in that department. And a Tampa 2 CB needs to be a great tackler.
What
i dont get this trade it would suck for us Jacubs was one of the best backs in the league before this season and he has one bad year and everyone wants to toss him

I have a good friend who's a big SD fan
So I watched a few of their games. AC is very overrated and injury prone. The only reason you think he’s a good pick is the one good season he had which would be now 3 seasons ago. He has played nowhere close to the level he displayed in the 07-08 season. Whether you think it or not, Brandon Jacobs is very important to the Giants getting back to Giants Football. We are built to run the ball. But with our top two tandem injured along with the issues along the line forced us to adjust into a passing team, as well as playing from behind. A healthy Jacobs and Bradshaw would have been effective. They weren’t and neither were we. The Cowpokes did not have a single player on IR going into the playoffs. Team health can destroy any teams chances.
I think what you are missing here Troy
is that Cro isn’t what that one season made him out to be. i agree when i watched him that year i was excited to see how he developed. yet now time has proven him out to be a slightly above average corner. he got lambasted after the Jets playoff game for totally giving up on that big TD run by Shonn Greene in which he ran right past Cro(and over Weddle) and from what i’ve read this is the norm for him. Just go on BFTB and ask them how they feel about Cro, or better yet, just read there past posts. not too good. i believe this is a case of the grass being greener.
Secondly, i think previous posters are right. corner is not a need right now. we have at times 3 starting caliber corners. all we need is another good safety. i read where you said move AR to safety, but why? why play another person unnecessarily out of position if we don’t have to. As freebrad likes to say, a square peg to a round hole….we’d be more hurt IMO trading ANY of our backs, than if we traded one of our corners. i think Jacobs has alot to prove to us, but i also think the tandem of him and Bradshaw, and whatever AB can give us off his surgery will equal most top running backs total numbers. even this year, what’d they finish with combined? 1400 or so yards. i’ll take that.
Your entitled to your opinion, but on Cro i’d say “buyer beware.”
No AC
I never wanan see anyone from San Diego, let alone AC, to be in a New York Giants uniform…. except for Eli technically.
overrated
I think Antonio Cromartie is overrated, so I’d be baffled if JR actually made this horrible move
by GiantsSupreme113 on Feb 20, 2010 3:28 PM EST reply actions
Also Brucie Johnson didn't play all THAT bad
don’t forget he was also a rookie and there wasn’t much in the way of a pass rush this year. Even if he is the nickel corner for us next year (which will happen only if they move Ross to safety full time) I think that our corner depth is still very good.
by mclaren_is_the_best on Feb 20, 2010 7:25 PM EST reply actions
yeah I agree
I think Aaron Ross should be moved to safety because IMO he’s not durable enough for one of the cornerback spots, I say we get rid of c. c. brown and move ross into the SS position and we see how Kenny Phillips comes back from his injury … I still think Brandon Jacobs is very valuable to this team, like a lot of people were saying, he’s a bruiser who wears down the opposing defense, so I wouldn’t get rid of him
by GiantsSupreme113 on Feb 21, 2010 11:33 AM EST reply actions
Still don't agree
on moving Ross to safety. If healthy, he will be a luxury at the nickel corner spot. I say draft a starting caliber safety (Thomas/Jones/Allen) and leave the CB’s as CB’s. Dockery is as good as gone and Bruce Johnson is decent depth.
If Ross is not durable enough for CB, what makes you think he’ll be durable at safety? He’ll end up Bob Sanders 2.0 minues the success and plus the injuries. And anyway, if he doesn’t show any desire to play this upcoming season he’ll prob be traded. Why does a person making hundreds of thousands of dollars (if not millions) to play a sport need motivation? The potential is def there, and Fewell knows how to get reults out of his DB’s and I think our CB’s can be elite in the right scheme.
15 is a good number
