Promotion Alert! Radio Appearance This Afternoon
I will be crossing into enemy territory this afternoon when I make an appearance on SB Nation Radio in D.C. to discuss this weekend's New York Giants vs. Washington Redskins game. If you want to check it out, you will be able to do that later this afternoon at SB Nation DC. It' a taped deal and the full broadcast won't be aired until late this evening or at 7 a.m. Sunday on 1067thef
Mike did a tremendous job with this morning's notebook, but I did have a couple of items I wanted to pass along.
Remember Vince Anderson, the free-agent safety from Webber International of the NAIA who spent last season on the Giants' practice squad? Well, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed him off their practice squad this week and added him to the 53-man roster. I feel good for the kid.
By the way, Bucs Nation bloggers are debating whether or not their team is really a playoff team. All I can say is, they better not be.
Eagles' fans (JImmyK alert!) are feeling pretty good after Philly defeated the Houston Texans Thursday night.
According to the folks at CoolStandings.com, the Giants have a 45.2 percent chance of making the playoffs. I would like to think it is better than that, but things are pretty dicey for the Giants right now.

Haha, I feel good about the offense. The defense stinks.
i didnt understand
when the ding dongs from NFL network were saying that the Eagles offense is built to hold a lead. if anything, they are built to come back, they throw well, dont take much time, and can score from anywhere. those guys are idiots
Agreed, and they’ve never been a team that will run the ball down your throat once they get a lead, which hurts them in regard to closing out games.

Yeah but closing out a game is
about coverting on 3rd down. With Vicks ability to run and throw chances of conveting are pretty good. You guys are pretty good on 3rd down

I agree.
I will go further and say that Vick was better then McNabb when both players were in their prime.

I wouldn't go that far...
Only because McNabb took the Eagles to multiple NFC Championships with the likes of Todd Pinkston, and James Thrash at receiver with not much of a running game if memory serves…
Beat the Redskins.

Definitely Vick is a great third down threat..

I agree
The offense is clicking on all cylinders. But that defense needs to change something, they really are just plain bad. Especially in the Red Zone. Did you see that stat last night?
Worst Red Zone Defense since the 1988 Oilers.
Eww
Beat the Redskins.

Worst Red Zone Defense since the 1988 Oilers.
Yeah, that’s insanely troubling. I knew they were very bad in the red zone, but to be the worst in over 20 years is gross. And you know what’s funny? The 1988 Oilers were also 8-4 after 12 games.
Wow
That’s just strange, but they finished 10-6, and the Eagles are not doing that. That loss in the divisional round of the playoffs does look appealing though…

Coolstandings.com
is misleading. The Giants, Packers and Bears have almost the same chance of making the playoffs as a WC. How does Tampa have a 43.3% chance as a WC?
"I don't do many endorsements. I'd rather get doused by Gatorade than bust my butt selling it." - Bill Parcells
I would think that considering that Tampa is in the same division as the
Falcons and Saints, that sounds about right, however, having them listed as having a 25.3% chance of getting the WC over the Giants is what I have a problem with. Tampa is good but I think that despite our team record and the Coolstandings.com assessment, we still rank pretty evenly with them in terms of an equal chance of obtaining the WC spot.

The formula
is based on current record + strength of remaining schedule, as far as I can tell. Just something to discuss, that’s all.
These coolstandings...
…aren’t very cool.

The Football Outsiders playoff odds are much more optimistic
They are based on strength of schedule, current record, and quality of team (as measured by weighted DVOA, their proprietary formula) – they have the Giants as 62.6% to go to the playoffs – interestingly, their single most likely standing would be the #2 seed and thus a first round bye.
