I know that Lovie Smith made it clear in his press conference earlier in the week that he intended to play his starters. As we all know things can change throughout the week, which is why it is quite pleasant as a Giants fan to see this article published today, which makes it seem almost definite that the Bears are going to do their best to keep their rivals out of the postseason, whether or not the #1 overall seed is up for grabs.
Not only does it make sense to knock out a team so you don't have to play them for a 3rd time in one season, but if a team has already clinched a first round bye and the starters rest in week 17, thats almost 3 weeks of rest that the starters have. Seems like too much time in between playing football. I feel like Devin Hester said it best:
"You don't want to sit out three weeks," receiver Devin Hester said. "That's a long time for a player to sit out, and not really get in the game atmosphere and the conditioning. Knowing that we've got a bye week the following week, I would love to go out and play the whole game, finish out, and make sure I stay on my keys and points, and make sure I'm in top shape when the playoffs start."
Whatever the case, the Bears will be my 2nd favorite team playing on Sunday and I'll be checking the scoreboards on ESPN just like the Giants players will be checking the scoreboards at FedEx Field.
