Rhett Bomar signed by Vikings.

Vikings Sign Bomar

As Favre questions swirl, Vikings sign another quarterback Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on December 20, 2010, 2:21 PM EST Brett Favre

On a day where Brett Favre suddenly could be available to play, the Vikings are adding another option at quarterback.

The Vikings will sign Rhett Bomar off the Giants’ practice squad, according to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger.  It’s unclear when the news will officially be announced, but Bomar is on his way to Minnesota.

The timing is curious because Minnesota signed Patrick Ramsey signed earlier in the week and Favre now seems likely to play Monday night.  The team also added R.J. Archer from the practice squad Monday.

The last-minute injury status change for Favre has many folks wondering how fair this is.  We can’t remember a player’s status being changed on the day of the game ever before.

“If a player’s medical status changes during the course of the week, the club must update his playing status accordingly prior to the game. That is what the Vikings did when Brett’s status changed today,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in a statement via Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.  The Vikings had to request permission from the league to make the change.

Aiello’s explanation makes sense, but why didn’t the Vikings use a doubtful tag for Favre?  On Saturday’s official injury report, Favre is listed as “Out.”  The NFL defines “Out” as having a “0% chance of playing.”

When it comes to Brett Favre, however, normal rules rarely apply.

THOSE BASTARDS!

ATTN BBV: The Giants will not make the playoffs this year. In light of this fact I will now be cheering for the Eagles for the remainder of this season. Please join me. It’s a much better scenario than jut waitning for next year. Go Vick!

I’m going to curl up and cry in the shower….

I'm gonna buy a HDTV with 3D technology so I can intercept an Eli Manning pass before the season is over.
