Sometimes after a loss like we just suffered, I need a good laugh and I can always find them at BBV.
In no particular order, here are some things that made me laugh after this loss.
Get rid of Dodge. For the most part, the kid had a decent day of punting. Yes, the last one was a doozy but he has to thank his coaching staff and teammates for putting him in that position. Dodge didn't give up a 21 point lead or fail to put the "hands team" on the field. Dodge wasn't asked to run the ball and run out the clock. This loss is not on Dodge. He was a contributor to the problem, but not the total problem.
Cower wants the job. So what. When did Cower become Lombardi? How many rings does he bring to the table? Some people make it seem like if we bring in Cower, we start collecting championships like John Wooden. Not gonna happen.
Overhauling the team. Why, because of this boneheaded loss. We've got a top 3 defense and a top 5 offense. We do need that one game changer and a new special teams coach, but no need to overhaul the team from top to bottom.
This loss puts a dent in our playoff chances. The last time I checked, we still control the last wildcard spot. The only dent was to our chances to win the Beast. We've got a game lead over the Pack (who we play next week) and the Buccs (who play the Saints the last week of the season). We control our destiny. Simply win and we're in. I'm not too worried about the bye week. We win and we face the Bears and just like the Eagles are a bad match up for us, we are a bad match up for the Bears. We win that game and it's on to Atlanta and I think that everyone feels the road to the Superbowl would take us to the ATL and if we win that game and the Football Gods have any compassion, we'll get that third game with the Birds at the Linc.
Guys, this was a tough loss but maybe a much needed loss. I know that sounds crazy but maybe this will be used as a learning tool for the whole team. Players must be alert to all situations and coaches must coach to win the game and not coach to "not lose" the game. Note to Perry Fewell, prevent defense only prevents you from winning the game. Note to Tom Couglin, it's passed time to lose Tom Quinn.
Next four games: Pack, Skins, Bears and Falcons (all on the road). Smells like 2007.
