NFL News: Wade Phillips Out as Cowboys Coach
According to SBNation Dallas, Wade Phillips has been fired as coach of the Dallas Cowboys, and will be replaced by offensive coordinator (and former Giants backup QB) Jason Garrett.
Full story from SBNation Dallas
Too bad, as I've said many times, I was hoping Wade could hold that job for life.
So first up for Garrett is figuring out a way to beat the division leading Giants. I would wish him good luck, but we all know I wouldn't mean it.

the only thing he got right all season

Actually he was thinking
Should I have a steak sandwich or a salad after the next 1:52
Do you really think he would consider a salad?

I don't understand the move to Garrett....
It’s perplexing to me because even though the defense has been playing horribly the offense has been underwhelming from day 1.
Ultimately, I want to know if Roy Williams still thinks they can make it to the Super Bowl.

I think Garrett was just the choice for getting them to the end of the season, when Jerry can go after another big name.

Garrett is going to get an opportunity somewhere
They gotta see what they have in him. Maybe he can get this team competitive.
Jerry's already paying Garrett like a HC ...
so it’s probably the cheapest move he could make. Also, gives him an easy out to can Garrett after the season if they hire a non-yes man coach (God forbid !) who wants his own staff.
Roy Williams still thinks they can win 9 straight.
Wade Phillips
the Dick Jauron of 2010. Too bad for Dallas there’s no Fewell there to clean up that mess. I can’t see Garrett getting those guys to play any better, particularly on O — it’s his offense to begin with.

The question that begs answering is this one....
Is Garrett capable of “stepping up”?

is anyone on that team capablle of stepping up?

and replaced him with a lame duck coordinator that the players don’t respect? All I have to say is good luck!

"When I was a boy and had no sense I got my pecker stuck in an electric fence..Well it curled my hair and tickled my balls, and made me shit in my overalls"
To put this into context ...
Imagine after 1-2 start, when folks said Coughlin had lost the team (O.K., maybe only Tiki said it), if it hat gotten worse, and Maras fired TC … and promoted KG. That’s what you’ve got in Dallas. No solution, but it really can’t be worse.
Can’t imagine Garrett ripping those players a new one, which is what Wade was totally incapable of.
I don't like it
For us, this week. I really hope they don’t manage to rally around him for a game or two. I hate to say it, but this weekend is setting up like a bad trap game.
isn't every game against an overmatched opponent on paper a "trap game," though?
hence the term being useless (like “Super Bowl hangover,” or, “football move”
by Step up and make big plays on Nov 8, 2010 3:31 PM EST up reply actions
you know, that's a good point
all paper overmatched games, you could call a trap, and when the inevitable couple upsets go off, they say, oh, trap game.
Maybe there are no trap games, just upsets, plain and simple.

if there ever was a "trap game" in recent Giants history...
…it was the Monday Night game at Cleveland in 2008. But, just like against the Saints and the Pats this year, on that given day Cleveland simply brought it — they planned and executed better than their opponent (i.e., they stepped up and made big plays).
Still, I don’t buy into the term “trap game”. I doubt TC does either. In a season of 16 individual one-game seasons, no game is a “trap game”.

There should be a "three strikes and your out" rule in the NFL for head coaches...
…guys like Wade Phillips and Norv Turner shouldn’t be allowed to touch another franchise ever again. If you can’t get over the hump by the third time, should you really be given a fourth chance with a different club? (though kudos to Wade for hoodwinking someone into believing he could be a winner).

This makes it more important than ever
to jump out early on them. Don’t let the slightest bit of hope or good feelings surface during the game, because this is the NFL, and anybody can really beat anybody with the right breaks. They’ve proven that they will fold like a cheap tent at the slightest hint of adversity, don’t give them any “Hey, Jason can right this ship” momentum AT ALL.

I agree...to an extent...
They jumped on us BIG-TIME when we played a few weeks ago and the Giants absorbed the shock and dominated them to win that game. I think their will is broken and even if they jump up on us they know they still are very much in danger of losing the game. It’s psychological with them now.
And, on the flip side of that, if they jump out against us I don’t think the Giants will fold and whimper away. They beat them down after being shocked early last time so they should be and will be confident that they can recover and win any game.

a win for the New York Football Giants week...
…will make for 6 out of the last 7 against Dallas going back to the 2007 playoff game, the only loss coming in 2008 on the road.
For a perennially competitive division like the NFC East, this is tantamount to recent dominance.

Wade has to be incredibly relieved ...
Making him serve out the last 8 games would have been “cruel and unusual”.
As for Jason, let’s hope he can inspire them to about 3 or 4 wins (after this Sunday) to get a shittier draft choice, and make Jerry think he just had the wrong “yes” man at the helm.
yes!

'Tis a sad day...
As I Wade through this quagmire of emotions , I can’t help but come to this conclusion. I really was Jonesing for Wade to be awarded a Life-Time Contract extension to coach the Crackwagon. Now I can only hope for 3+ years of flaundering before the new guy get’s the Garret, and the trend starts anew.
P.S. Intentional mis-spelling of Garrot – there….sheesh, the play on words really blows if you have to explain it. There’s nothing to see here…just move along.

Rationale behind sticking Garrett in there....
I believe the rationale behind sticking Garrett in there is the Rooney Rule to hiring head coaches/coaches in the NFL. I don’t think they have enough time to interview a good number of people, let alone find anyone who wants to step in during the middle of a depressing season….
Just a tough situation for them all around. We all know JJ has been wanting (performing lewd unspeakable acts on Garrett behind the scenes) to promote Garrett – at least thats how it started out.
Honestly though – figured their special teams coach would be more apt to whip those guys into mental shape – but perhaps he doesn’t have the “total package” as Garrett does in JJ’s eyes.
Paul Pasqual-something is the D-Line coach who perhaps will take over as D-Coordinator. He was an advisor for Miami’s defense right after getting fired from the SU job – and I guess came over to Dallas at some point.
Anyway – this is just sad to see unfold. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I am enjoying every minute of it….but still just sad to see a franchise in shambles like Dallas. Did anyone else notice the players last night? They just seemed slower, and weaker, and not as smart, and just generally a step behind Green Bay the whole way. Most of them anyway. So will Dallas pose a serious threat to us or anyone else? Perhaps. Who knows how they’ll react. I don’t see it though. The D has basically forgotten how to play and Jon Kitna just doesn’t seem to have very much in the ability department any longer.
I’ll say that I’m not worried, but in the back of my mind, as with every upcoming opponent, the worry festers. Oh well, all we can do is gameplan and do what we do best.
Best line of the day over at PFT ...

Garrett is an expert
At being a backup QB. Obviously not at designing running plays, however.
The problem with the Cowboys
Their good players are old. New England (and the Giants to some degree) solve this problem continually by building through the draft and putting small pieces together, and knowing when to let go of people. Dallas chases the big name players, the big moves, and has had weak drafts. NE and Dallas have completely opposite franchise philosophies.
+1
Jerry falls in love with big name players.

he only spend 42 picks on WR

Good for Paul
he took SU to heights they hadn’t see since the late 80’s, and got a bum rap for a few 6-6 seasons. After Greg fucking Robinson I would have traded a testicle for a 6-6 bowl season. Thank God for the Tremendous HCDM. Not that I hope for too much success for Paul but I can appreciate him getting another shot.

This I now think is actually good for us..
They named Garrett…What difference will that make?..Same shitty offense run by the same guy who now has to be the head coach also..They named Pasquini as their DC…He sucked so bad as DC that Phillips took over last year…Now they will be in a state of total chaos this week…Somebody smarter than me has to explain how they can possibly pull themselves together in one week and be better prepared to have a snowballs chance in hell of beating our team..Impossible…They can’t..period..We’re headed for another cakewalk…Constanza..keep your gun in the drawer.. and Larry I’m baking you another cake..lol..This is going to be better than the ‘Bird Turd Bowl’
"When I was a boy and had no sense I got my pecker stuck in an electric fence..Well it curled my hair and tickled my balls, and made me shit in my overalls"
It wasn't all Wade fault
The cowgirls have the 2nd worst offensive line in the nfl behind the bears and on defense they only have one pass rusher, Ware, and no good corner backs………..The dbs get torch by every receiver……….This team has been overrated for years and now people are finally realizing this…………The cowgirls aren’t the most talented team but the worst team in the nfl
So Jason Garrett
Gets to be chief postmaster now. Good fir Wade he doesn’t get to go down with this ship.

i have to say it had lots of laughs reading the post
but the giants should rest the starters after the 1st half and prepare for a SB run..so the score will stay low as in maybe 50 to 0..
