Got to Love Reese
Steve smith. Boy was it smart for Reese not to overreact and give Steve Smith a contract extension last year. Steve had numbers like a number one superstar last year and Reese would have to pay him like one. Reese knew smith wasn't a number one. Now Steve Smith won't have the numbers like last year (thanks to Hakeem "The Dream" Nicks) and can't demand that kinda of money when he become a free agent next year (baring if there will be a season next year).

I guess so
but its early yet. Smith started out great but then slowed down a bit as the season went on, mainly cuz teams were focusing on him.
A game like today, teams will start focusing on Nicks, which will be dumb cuz Steve Smith is still a monster.
Hopefully Reese pays SS12 what he’s worth. Reese really hasn’t had to sign any of his drafted players to big contracts, but they need to keep Smith when the time is up.
Winning cures all...even stupid
Pay Steve IMO
Ask him what he thinks he deserves. He’s an honest guy. I doubt he holds out, he wants to be a NYG.
+1
Pay the man his money.

I want Eli, Smith, Nicks, and Manningham to be together for a long time

Hells yea.
Boss too.
They’re so young, so much talent…Eli’s in his prime…could go down as the greatest O in Giants history.

would love to see all them stay together for years
maybe even throw Beckum in there. I’ve been wrong about him, he is playing pretty well

Nicks is the true number 1 of this team
but Smith is still a beast, teams are really doubling him on 3rd downs. Got his jersey the other day, gotta break the jinx I seem to have on players.

SS12
he will produce, and will produce often. it may not be TD’s. but who cares? he picks up crucial 1st downs and demands a double team. I don’t if he technically becomes the “#2” guy because he is still extremely important. Before Moss was traded, Welker was the #2 guy but you still gotta pay the man don’t cha?
SS deserves his money
but not #1 WR $$$….the fact that JR has waited really doesn’t have any bearing on his thinking, but I think the player (Smith) isin’t in a position to demand anything unrealistic either….not that he would have. But regardless, it’s a good thing if you are JR.
Until his cell phone rings and it’s Hakeem Nicks’ agent on the other line….

Giants will have to (if he continues like this).....
which is all the more reason to keep everything in perspective
at this rate though, a few guys could be looking for $….Smith, Cofield, Kiwi, where’s TT, Boss, and Goff in terms of their rookie contracts?

well actually Kiwi's injury really hampers his negotiating ability.....

This seems to me to be a penny-wise pound-foolish approach...
Sure you can nickel and dime a guy who regularly contributes and when he gets chances does well, or you can give him what he’s worth. Who knows what the future holds for Nicks and the others. Why antagonize a guy who you may need in case of injury to someone else? [Finds wood…Knocks on it] To be perceived as denying a guy chances for nothing more than better bargaining position—even if this perception is untrue—has to affect the way players see a team.
