Deja Vu All Over Again

I keep hearing about 2007 when talking about this team.  It's a long way from Super Bowl no.4 but I decided to recount the similarities.

Star-divide

2007: Rookie Steve Smith spent most of the year injured with a fractured scapula but came back to make big catches in the playoffs.

2010: Second-year player William Beatty got injured early with a broken bone in his foot.  He hasn't been put on IR because the teams hopes he can come back later in the season.

2007: Plaxico Burress, a key piece of the offense, had to deal with a nagging ankle injury all season long.

2010: Shaun O'Hara, a key piece of the offense, has been plagued with a chronic ankle injury.

2007, Tiki Barber announced that Coughlin was in trouble of losing his job and that Coughlin's message wasn't reaching his players.

2010, Tiki Barber announced that Coughlin was in trouble of losing his job and that Coughlin's message wasn't reaching his players.

2007: Mathias Kiwanuka got injured playing LB.  He wound up going on IR.

2010: Mathias Kiwanuka got injured playing LB.  Hopefully, he can come back this season.

2007: A new defensive coordinator in Steve Spagnuolo was hired.

2010:  A new defensive coordinator in Perry Fewell was hired.

2007: The team was 2-2 after its first four games.  The defense had a dominating performance in Week 4, giving up only three points and recording 12 sacks.

2010: The team was 2-2 after its first four games.  The defense had a dominating performance in Week 4, giving up only three points and recording 10 sacks.

2007: The Giants won that Week 4 game and went on a six-game winning streak.

2010: The Giants won that Week 4 game and won consecutive games for the first time since Week 4 and Week 5 of 2009.

2007: Jerry Reese signed veteran LB Kawika Mitchell in the off-season to fill the SAM spot.

2010: Jerry Reese signed veteran LB Keith Bulluck in the off-season.  Thought to fill the MLB spot, Bulluck plays at the SAM spot... or is Fewell calling it the WILL?

2007: The Cowboys entered the season as prohibitive favorite to win the division and reach the Super Bowl after suffering a bad playoff loss in the previous season.

2010: The Cowboys entered the season as prohibitive favorite to win the division and reach the Super Bowl after suffering a bad playoff loss in the previous season.

2007: Coughlin entered 2007 with two years left on his contract and his return unknown.

2010: Coughlin entered 2010 with two years left on his contract and his return unknown.

2007: The Giants won the Super Bowl after the Steelers then the Colts had reached the two previous Super Bowl games.

2010: The Steelers then the Colts reached the two previous Super Bowl games. Our turn?

I said this before...

But no one was talking about the 1990 Super Bowl season in 2007.

Just sayin.

Thirty-nine seconds left...Manning lobs it, Burress alone, touchdown New York.

would that be because 3/4 of the 1990 team wasn't on the 2007 team?

That’s the only reason why 2007 has any relevance….most of the team is the same players.

Free

im pretty sure it’s more like 100 percent of the players

by wangstu13 on Oct 10, 2010 6:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Plax

Ward, Toomer, Both starting safeties and all the LBs, McQuarters and Madison.

OL, Eli, RBs, DL (Canty for Robbins), Ross and Web, I guess Wilkinson.

A lot more same then not and its mostly the important parts, but not 100% (probably little less then 3/4)

Maybe we have confused each other? None of those players were on the 1990 squad.

One question

which injured player (Shockey) is going to be drunk and making an ass out of himself, while watching his teammates win a championship?

To weeks ago I would've said Jacobs

but he’s picked it up the last two weeks.

I can't think of anyone it could be other then Jacobs

but since that Indy game I have no problem with Jake. I really hope that doesn’t happen to him.

I actually think that saving him now will help for the cold months. Usually right now Jacobs is nursing some injury, but still playing.

really odd

all the similar stuff… I hope this team just does their own thing (the past is the motha F’n past)… get to the QB, take advantage of defensive stops, LESS TURNOVERS, less penalities on special-ed teams. If that is done, this team can be good in an average NFC
