Rumors: Could the Giants have something brewing in Denver?
While much speculation has been surrounding the Jets possibly being interested in Broncos WR Brandon Marshall, Denver radio station 104.3 snapped this picture of what is presumably the Giants private plane at Jeffco airport in Denver. Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports has the story.
Could be something, could be nothing. Maybe the plane stopped for gas or burgers, or maybe this is just some good photo shop work, and the Giants don't even have a private plane.
Either way, fun to speculate about, and I wouldn't mind taking a ride on that plane.

Ha ha, just saw this from Ralph Vacchiano on the tweets:
One problem: According to a team official the Giants don’t own a plane. So no apparent truth to the rumors.

Do you see the picture of the plane on that website? It has a different logo on the tail, must be the one you are referring to below

Bogus
From what I hear that’s an old pic. The plane has a new logo now. Either way I wouldn’t take him. Why swap one diva for another?

How awesome would this be..
I know there are conflicting opinions but I’m all for bringing Marshall in. Brandon Marshall is not a diva. One incident doesn’t make you a diva. Especially when that incident is fueled by a team’s trainers misdiagnosing your injury, releasing false reports to the media, and a head coach who ran your QB our of town. Brandon Marshall has all the charges dropped on the domestic violence incident to so that isnt an issue. Before this did you ever hear anything about Brandon Marshall other than being a beast on the field.
I’m sorry but we are lacking in the WR department. Getting Brandon Marshall could put our offense over the top. Really turn us into a juggernaut. I guarantee you won’t hear a peep out of him, except TDs and 8+ catches a game. How can you be against that. I hope we do pick him up.

not on your bandwagon yet
but there was a good talk on Sirius NFL about how maybe Marshall is just smart for bailing on the hindenburg that is this year’s broncos

Not sure diva is the right description
But it probably the nicer term. He’s leagl traouble waiting to happen. The guy can’t stay out of the papers in Denver. How much moreso would it be in NY. NYG just got out of the Plax mess, why would they potentially want to gent into it with Marshall when he he has a history of legal issues.

The problem is it wasn't just one incident
I live within walking distance from UCF (where marshall went to school). The dude tends to be trouble. He’s not a thug or a bad guy, he’s just one of those guys who doesn’t think and ends up causing trouble. His behavior in the last practice is indicative of this. Nothing he did in Denver was that terrible, just distracting and behavior you don’t want around the football team.
Also, I don’t know how he would respond to Coughlin.

badly.
Almost makes me want him in the team, just to watch his face when Coughlin goes that particular shade of red we all know and love.
I said almost!

Practice? You talking bout Practice?

None Of You
Are bringing up the issue of the money. Marshall’s problem with Denver is almost entirely because HE WANTS A NEW CONTRACT! Denver won’t give it to him yet. If you make a trade where you give up players and/or picks, you have now given him real leverage to hold out and make you pay him. The Giants have talent at the WR position. They need guys to step up. Marshall is more enticing to a team like the Jets who have no talent at the position and a rookie QB.

Speculation
Seems fake. I’d figure if there were rumors about the Giants looking for Marshall, the first indication of such a proposal wouldn’t be a blurry photograph of a plane taken by a local radio station.
Humoring the idea for a brief aside, I think this kid is an absolute primmadona. You can justify it in any way you want, but in the end he’s still a diva. That said, I’d love to throw him in a Giants jersey and have him draw double coverage. I just don’t want to lose Smith/Hixon plus a first rounder.
by RolloT on Sep 3, 2009 11:08 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
give 'em the first rounder
but keep smith and hixon… give ‘em manningham and moss, on second thought go ahead give em hixon…. we’ll start marshall, smith and nicks in the slot. not bad for an unproven wr with questionable hands. and the (HOPEFULLY)32nd overall pick

This is from Marshall's Wikipedia site
Do we really want this on our team? One or two may be forgiven, but this is a destructive trend.
Legal trouble
According to Orlando-Orange County public records (case 48-2004-MM-012392-O), on Halloween 2004, while a student at UCF, Marshall was arrested in Orlando on charges of assault on a law enforcement officer, refusal to obey, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer.40
On January 1, 2007, Marshall was present at “The Shelter,” a nightclub in Denver, Colorado, along with teammates Javon Walker and Darrent Williams. The trio was attending a birthday party held for and by Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin. As the players were leaving the club in a limousine, Williams was fatally shot in the neck after an unknown assailant opened fire on the vehicle. Willie Clark was later charged with the murder.41 Walker has stated in interviews that the shooter was likely a nightclub patron whose motive was retaliation after being involved in an altercation with Marshall’s cousin earlier that night.42
On March 26, 2007, Marshall was arrested in the Highlands Ranch suburb of Denver on suspicion of domestic violence after his girlfriend reported that following a domestic dispute, Marshall prevented a taxi she was in from leaving his house.43 Charges from the incident were later dismissed on May 25, 2007, after Marshall completed anger management counseling.44
In the early morning of October 22, 2007, Marshall was arrested in the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area at the intersection of 14th and Blake St. for driving under the influence of alcohol.45 A trial was scheduled for September 16, but Marshall instead agreed to a plea bargain four days earlier; he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving while ability impaired.46 He was sentenced to one-year probation and 24 hours of community service.
On June 12, 2008, Marshall was ticketed for an illegal lane change, then found to be without his license and proof of insurance.47 The case was eventually dropped as part of a plea bargain for the October 22, 2007 driving incident involving alcohol.46
According to an article published in the Rocky Mountain News on July 28, 2008, Douglas County deputies fielded “about 11” calls to Marshall’s home since January 2006. The article stated that one call resulted in Marshall being arrested (the March 26, 2007 domestic dispute), and some did not involve him at all.48
A September 17, 2008 article on CompleteColorado.com stated that the solicitor’s office in Fulton County, Georgia filed misdemeanor battery charges on September 10 for an alleged incident on March 4, 2008, in Atlanta, Georgia. Marshall was booked on March 6, then released the next day after posting a $1,000 cash bond.49 The case was assigned to Judge John Mather in Georgia state court.50 On August 14, 2009, a jury in Atlanta found Marshall not guilty.51
On March 1, 2009, Marshall was arrested in Atlanta for disorderly conduct after allegedly being involved in a fight with his fiancee, Michi Nogami-Campbell. Marshall was released on a $300 bond.52 The charges were dropped the following day

Yep, and I’m still signing him. If we did sign him, I bet we won’t hear a peep out of all of you when he is a league leader in receptions.
I can’t believe you guys would not want to bring him in given his situation in the mess that is Denver. Give Steve Smith and Hixon a few more dropped passes and see if you don’t wish we had a bonified #1 WR who is a beast on the field. Unbelievable.

I've got no problem
with players that run into a little trouble. Hey, it happens. But when you are talking about a rap sheet like above, then it’s just not excusable. The guy runs into trouble every year of his life and he’ll continue to do so until he winds up in jail. I don’t care how good of a football player he is, it’s not worth the headache. I didn’t really have a problem with Marshall until I saw that list. There is no excuse for that.
As for LT, your barking up the wrong tree. The guy may have had his drug problems, but you’d never see him showing up his team like that. Or walking out on them in a hissy fit for that matter.
by potroast on Sep 3, 2009 2:28 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'm not saying I would not root for him
you root for the laundry over the people, and I would be excited if he performed well on the field. But it is alot easier to root for the team when you happen to like the players, and aren’t holding your breath every time you see the ESPN ticker that some bad news is going to drop out of the sky and become a huge distraction. And really, acting like a spoiled kid at a birthday party who didn’t get the piece of cake with the most frosting is some devilishly clever way of abandoning a sinking ship? What is that old saying about rats on such a ship…

All I’m saying we have a need, he fits the need. If the Giants have to put people in his inner circle, whatever, give him a counselor. Don’t tell me he wouldn’t be a tremendous help.
Every team has bad apples. Deal with it. At this point it doesn’t look like we will sign him, sooo you guys win. It’s just funny. This blog in general thinks that every team should never ever sign a person with a troubled past. The Vick comments, Plax comments, etc…It’s crazy. You guys think every team should be full of knights in shining armor. In reality that is not the case.
You put a team on the field to win football games, not be your personal hero who you want your kids to be like. We aren’t rooting for an serial killer here. He screws up fine…cut him, suspend him, and be done with it, but don’t sit here and whine cause there is a remote chance we might sign a guy who has never been convicted of a major offense and wants out of a horrible situation.

I know no one wants to get hurt in the last pre season game...
but is anyone worried about the fact that K. Philips is sitting out? I say if your even a little banged up don’t play…but i just hate having so many guys nicked up before the season b/c it’s only going to get worse.
what’s worse is that the giants are so good at keeping injuries in house we’ll never know if someone is playing hurt or not…well until the season is over and guys start going under the knife.

FAKE BREAKING NEWS
Cowboys sign Brandon Marshall. General Manager Jerry Jones was asked about his questionable decision to bring in yet another player with a troubled past. His response: “Did ya see our scoreboard sorta hangs low? They say it could block some punts.”

No one wanted Randy Moss. Is Marshall as talented? Of course not, but he still does have the ability to be an elite WR. If he’s available at a large discount because of his history, I think you have to look into acquiring him.

Whether or not its true....
if the price is right, which right now it couldn’t be lower for him…
Id take the chance. Again if that price is low enough, we could just cut bait if its that bad (so this implies we either wait it out for the season or make sure we keep the guys we have…maybe not Sinorice tho)
Marshall is a much more athletic player than Plax…he’s simply more talented. Its kind of a similar situation to Plax in Pittsburgh…
And anyone who is just going by this after the Plax situation is so fresh in their minds needs to snap back to reality.
Plaxico was incredible for the Giants his entire career. If Marshall even identical to Plax in terms of off field (late to meetings and that Coughlin type rule crap), then I’ll take it.
I mean Im one to say the Giants are fine with the guys we have, the rest of the team is that good. But Marshall is an incredible WR like Plax was and if you can get a guy like that for pennies on the dollar..you do it.
