Knee arthritis and stem cells

I was talking to a friend of mine who is a runner, about my sadness over Kenny Phillips' injury. She said there are new treatments for knee arthritis that use stem cells to regenerate the cartilage. If you're curious, try googling "stem cell cartilage." It seems that the ability to generate cartilage from stem cells was first demonstrated in 2001 (http://www.patents.com/Mesenchymal-stem-cells-cartilage-repair/US6214369/en-US/) and there is at least one commercialy available product now (www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/117957.php). Here's hoping Kenny becomes a poster child for the new therapy (or some other successful therapy).
