Around SBN: 2012 Budweiser Shootout Entry List Released

Eff you, we're winning anyway

Sorry to steal from BGN for this, but dammit this is getting old......

Here's a list of the injuries from the most recent .....as of right now.....Oh god...

Star-divide

We all know Kenny Phillips is on IR now, so now Aaron Rouse is a NYG. Hopefully he is more than the taller CC Brown he looks like. Phillips had 2INT's, led the team in tackles (cuz its not like anyone else was tackling the RB's).

....considering his statline might have made him the defensive MVP for the Giants that game.....what would he have done on a healthy knee?

2nd most recent is the All Pro Justin Tuck. While he may not end up missing any games at all, this is still gonna be a lingering injury that more than likely will sap his Strahan-esqu power.

.....Oh yea, Flozel? EFF YOU WE WON ANYWAY.

Little know injury in that game while the Giants WR were torching the "vaunted" Dallass secondary, Dominik Hixon had a knee injury that basically kept him out the whole game, aside from the 1st possession march down the field he was a part of.

Game One? Hakeem Nicks injures an ankle. Comes out in a boot and whether or not you call him Nicks or Hicks, you were shaking you're head.....uh oh, here we go......

And the first play of the 2009 season for the Giants...saw our #3 RB, possibly D-Ward's replacement, have his elbow dislocated. At least the prognosis of week to week sounds a lot better than "dislocated elbow"....

Out big shiny new DT, Chris Canty, missed his first game of his career last week, on a calf injury suffered in practice. WTF?

Aaron Ross and Kevin Dockery have not played yet. These haven't hurt us yet because of the play of T2 Terrel Thomas and this year's Kevin Dockery, Bruce Johnson. But it would be nice to have you guys on the field....

Is that it? Hell no. Before the season, some of us (like me...) went "meh" to the injuries of Jay Alford and Andre Brown.  Considering all the depth at each position, it was justified then. But we could use Alford right now considering he's a heat seeking missile to the QB, and having a 3rd RB the caliber of Brown probably would help at this point with Ware out.

Well you know what? EFF YOU ....WE'RE 2-0, WE'RE WINNING ANYWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We still got Diehl (Demarcus who?), Seubert, O'Hara, Snee and McKenzie.. Still got Osi, Stil got Kiwi, AP, C-Webb, FredRob and Cofield. Still got the Juggernaut Jacobs, Bradshaw and Bossman. Still got Steve Smith 2. We now have HAM.

Oh yea.....

We still got

no question our team has the most depth in the league

after all the injuries we have so early in the season, and we’re 2 and 0, pretty impressive.

Catchy Title

I thought I recognized it from BGN…sorry about the rash of injuries…we can relate. We’re starting to really feel the pangs of losing Stewart Bradley…we can’t put an offensive line together, and Brian Westbrook’s already missing practice (which is normal, but not usually until the middle of the season)

Good luck guys, thanks for beating the Cowboys, and we’ll meet you (banged up as we both are) in November

"What did it feel like? That collision, I didn't feel nothing, because he was pretty much defenseless. It was like running through a cardboard box. Seriously. Cardboard box."- Sheldon Brown on his pounding of Reggie Bush in the '06 Playoffs

As I said to Bye Dawk

It is like a freaking competition between the Giants and Eagles to see who has more high profile and useful position players out. It is sickening.

The point is

Apart from the Saints the Eagles and Giants are still the favoured teams to win the NFC – what does that say about all the other teams.

The damn thing is

You come into the season so thoroughly talented, with great depth insurance in all units, and now it’s gone in WEEK F@#$^%&* 2? Kenny Phillips, man, I hope he’s still got a good productive career in front of him because he’s got the talent to be an absolute great.
So, in 2 weeks, the D-line depth is shaky/gone, the secondary depth is gone. I feel like our Defense went from A++ to a B overnight. Basically the team has gone from A+ to B+ because of injuries, but even missing 2 of our top receivers, 2 of our top draft picks, our top safety, our top D-lineman, etc., we’re still a strongly competitive team. Hopefully we get good contributions from the fill-ins and the rash of injuries fades … it’s more important to be healthy in December, January. Please Jesus Lord in Heaven, NO MORE INJURIES!

You play to win the game!

i'm sure the Seattle Seahawks

feel really, really bad for all of us.

they’ve been absolutely “effed” by the injury bug for the last 14 months.

who cares about the Seahawks?

They had their token SB run. EFF SEATTLE, WE’RE WINNING ANYWAY.

Contraversy

The Giants seem to play better with there backs up against the wall. We have a pretty deep team. Need to get Kevin and Aaron back on the field and the injury to KP wont be stinging as much.

Question for Giants fans from a Cowboy fan.

First, congratulations on the win. A real letdown for us, since we feel like the ’Boys should have won; but you play 60 minutes for a reason.

Now my question: is there concern in Giants nation regarding the trouble they had stopping the run Sunday night? My biggest complaint about the game is that we didn’t run more.

I know I was very concerned about the ‘Boys run defense after the Bucs game, and now concerned about pass coverage after the Giants game. (Throw in pass rush, while I’m at it.) But teams don’t win Super Bowls giving up 150 yards + on the ground a game. Do you believe it was a bad game plan? Execution? Or just excellent blocking by the Cowboys?

by Johnny Cage on Sep 25, 2009 12:21 PM EDT reply actions

Combination

I think it was a combination of factors. The Giants played pass first, which naturally opened up the running game a bit. You’ve got three very good backs and two of them, Barber and Jones, ran exceptionally well, making great cutbacks. I thought the Dallas blocking, particularly on the linebackers was very good. But maybe the biggest factor of all was that Osi and Kiwi were over pursuing and not forcing the runs back to the middle.

This is what i wrote Sept. 17, and i'll add to it
I wouldn’t read too much into this

Prepping for a two-TE set may be the best way to prepare?! I could be wrong, but if this could be Dallas’ best personnel package to offer, let’s not get caught off guard if we never prepped for it. Afterall, Dallas does want to utilize Bennett more, he is a mismatch amongst teams and shouldn’t be takened lightly. Let’s make sure that when this situation does occur, everyone knows what to do, cover, blitz etc…

Afterall, T.O. is gone and after Witten, perhaps Bennett could be the next best option? Familiarity is already instilled with Austin, Crayton and Williams, let’s make sure we have the proper pesonnel for Bennett. He (Bennett) isn’t a secret anymore, so preparing for him shouldn’t be either!

Now, i’m not going to say that i was correct in what the Giants gameplan was (IDK), but the outcome does reflect what happened! Given what the Cowboys did to T.B. and the mismatches they had in the passing game (for the Giants LB’s), this is what i thought would be identified.

Vice versa, Cowboys gameplanning to stop our run and daring Eli to beat you. Everything seemed to be the opposite of what was expected and happened! We stopped the passing game, you stopped our running game, thus the yards being elsewhere!

I think the gameplans were there, but it came down to play calling! Garrett going with the pass when the running was there?! Though the Giants have their own problems in the red-zone. I think it’s a lesson both teams have to figure out!

by Hootman on Sep 25, 2009 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions

You've got 5 sumo wrestlers on the O-line

I think that’s also the real story behind the Flozell flap. As a group they are just too slow to pass protect against speed rushers like the Giants. Given Romo’s play, the Cowboys should have run the ball at least 40 times, not 29 runs and 29 passes. Why didn’t they?

I think there are 105,000 reasons or 1.3 billion reason for that matter. Jerry Jones doesn’t think that a team that wins games 13-10 will be flashy enough. He can’t afford to have a big chunk of the best seats in the house empty like we do at Yankee Stadium and will next year at Giants Stadium Part Deux. He’d rather go 9-7 and have a full house than go 12-4 and bore the crap out of his “fans”. If he was serious about winning Super Bowls, would he really have Wade “0-4 lifetime in the play-offs, including the Music City Miracle” Phillips still coaching the team?

To get back your question – yes I worry about the run defense, but until it costs the Giants a game or we start getting killed in time of possession, I’ll deal with it.

by roguetrader on Sep 25, 2009 2:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Several of you offered good replies.

But if you think Jerry’s not concerned with winning, you’re not paying attention. But I agree we should have run 40 times. Though I’ll add the Giants didn’t record a sack, either, so I"m not sure the speed rushers were such a problem.

by Johnny Cage on Sep 25, 2009 5:00 PM EDT up reply actions

they were definitely a problem....

if you think sacks are indicative of how good a D-Line really is, you are wrong, plain and simple.

Yea, its a decent portion of it. The Cowboys didn’t sack Eli Manning either. I wouldn’t go and say the Giants secondary was that much better either as the total reason the Giants passed and the Cowboys didn’t.

Its pressure. The Cowboys got almost none, while the Giants were back there a whole lot. Especially on the Cowboys first drive, they hit Romo a lot, and hard too. That goes a long way even when you get no sacks.

It has something to do with the QB’s of course, but Romo can pick you apart if he’s allowed to do whatever he wants back there. The Giants D-Line didn’t allow that.

What the f$%k is the internet?

by FreeBradshaw on Sep 25, 2009 5:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Even though Romo was sackless...

He may have been hurried or rattled? This goes along way’s for a QB’s accuracy and pocket presence! I’m not comparing Brady and Romo, but when the Giants beat N.E., not only did they harrass him, they sacked him! This did Brady in, and i think if you put pressure on Romo, he’ll make mistakes; as he did! Sometimes it’s not the numbers, but the intangibles that you want to see?

As good as Romo may seem, he’s no Brady until he learns!!! Harsh reality sets in when one is in doubt (a fan)?! But, it’s the doubt of an individual (a player) that perhaps makes the future harsh!

Romo needs to learn, and so does Garrett!!

by Hootman on Sep 25, 2009 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions

tony romo

does look sackless when the pressure is on

Bruce Johnson?

He looked damn good picking off Romo for a TD. Maybe he steps up into the starting spot.

by rich316 on Sep 25, 2009 8:42 PM EDT reply actions

F it indeed

I was looking forward this year to some smash mouth run heavy defensive brawls. Seeing how everyone is injured, I’ve gotten pretty mad. I pretty much am hoping that Eli airs it out every game, gets multiple tds and 300+ yards a game and we embarrass everyone.

Its still amazing that we’re down two corners, yet we still had a dominant secondary. Losing Kenny Phillips sucks but if Dockery and Ross come back, and Canty and who-naught come back, we’ll still have an amazing team. We have depth. We learned that last year. Depth is what separates the average teams (Seattle) to the great teams us.

I’ll go an extra step and say screw everyone!
