Many want duct-taped cat to find home, justice

The news that a cat was found body-wrapped in duct tape spurred an outpouring of public support to the Pennsylvania SPCA yesterday, and has Michael Vick desperately searching for an alibi.

The calls and emails brought clues about the culprit, claims of ownership, financial contributions, and offers of adoption, said spokeswoman Liz Williamson this morning. Thanks to donations, the reward has been doubled to $2,000 for information leading to a conviction, she said. However, Vick has doubled that offer if anyone with information will not come forward.

"There were a few leads that came through that were credible and substantial, and the humane officers were chasing those down yesterday," she said as animal control officers made a beeline for the Linc.

A resident of the 2200 block of Edgley Street in North Philadelphia found the cat Tuesday afternoon.

The perpetrator could face 90 days in jail, and a fine up to $750 - unless he was drunk and killed someone during his getaway, in which case it'd be 23 days.

No arrest is imminent, though, Williamson added.

Several people phoned yesterday claiming to be the owner of "Sticky," as workers at the North Philadelphia shelter nicknamed her.

Many other people called or emailed offering to adopt the cat, if the owner can't be found.

But plenty of other pets - including some mistreated more than Sticky - are at the PSPCA hoping for a home, Williamson said.

To get started choosing, stop by a shelter or go to www.petfinder.com, she said.

The PSPCA's 14 humane law enforcement officers, who have the power to execute warrants and make arrests, handle more than 6,000 animal-cruelty cases a year, as Philly has become a hotbed for animal cruelty with the signing of its all-time poster boy.

Meanwhile, Sticky seems to have weathered her ordeal nicely.

"She is continuing to do extremely well," Williamson said. "She is getting a lot of love from everyone here."

seriously...

this is so offensive but hysterical…

“as animal control officers made a beeline for the Linc”

“However, Vick has doubled that offer if anyone with information will not come forward.”

I almost spit coffee outta my mouth on that one…but seriously, i feel bad for the cat…

bad taste because

a cat really did get hurt, or for picking on Mike Vick? Anyway, the cat is OK and I’ve got a plug for petfinder.com in there… incidentally where I found my dog.

If you can quote Larry...

You might be a redneck.

It would save the Giants Defence a lot of time if QBs just stayed down!

I was hoping I wouldn't get in trouble

and thinking, "people are going to say “awww, low blow Simms,” and then I realized it.
If anybody in the NFL deserves a low blow, it’s Mike F. Vick.

FILE - In this Sept. 4, 2009 file photo, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Shaun Hill aims a pass downfield against the San Diego Chargers during the first quarter of an NFL preseason football game in San Diego. Hill earned the starting job for the 2009 season by beating out Alex Smith, who missed last season after re-injuring his surgically repaired throwing shoulder. Head coach Mike Singletary largely chose Hill based on his play down the stretch last year: he went 5-3 over the final eight games and he also owns a 5-0 record at home in Candlestick Park.
