Giants 33, Cowboys 31: JerryWorld denied!
How is that for the way to end a football game? A brilliant drive by Eli Manning and the Giants to win the game, and a pair of clutch kicks by Lawrence Tynes (since he had to kick the game-winner twice).
As a New York Giants fan it's hard to enjoy anything much more than watching Jerry Jones and 105,000 crazed Cowboy fans go home empty-handed on opening night in their new stadium.
Oh, and yes I did steal 'JerryWorld denied' from one of the end of the game comments in the Open Thread. I'll take good stuff wherever I can get it/
Check the complete coverage page for a full recap, box score and for Blogging the Boys take on the action.
I will be back in the morning with 'Kudos & Wet Willies,' plus a whole lot more. Let's just say there will be lots of praise for Eli and his wide receivers. Maybe not so much for the Giants run defense and Dallas offensive tackle Flozell 'Trip' Adams. For now, smile and get some sleep so you can get up and go to work in the morning.

Strahan tweet...
The great Michael Strahan on Flozell Adams:
@michaelstrahan Flozell is known to trip people when he gets beat. NFL needs to fine him to stop that. Can seriously hurt someone which he already did.
"We're only going to score 17 points?" ~ Tom Brady
Also
Leonard Davis jumped on top of Phillips after he had been tackled on the INT. I’m surprised he’s still able to walk.
Alright, even a CB has troubles stopping their momentum...
Weighing 350 pounds and trying to stop your momentum are 2 things that can’t be mixed. Saw the play and there was nothing that would have stopped Davis from falling all over Phillips.
And there was nothing dirty with it.
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
you're wrong, chandus
the play was over when he decided to leave his feet and jump on Phillips

Flozell Adams on ESPN's NFC East Blog
“I didn’t see nothing,” Adams said late Sunday. “Did you see something?”
Um, even the commentators, who seemed to be loving the Cowboys, saw that and pointed that out. If you’re going to do that, at least man up to it. I hope Goodell fines him.

wow
great win! but………where to start? where were our lbs? Boley made some plays early, but almost all the stops on barber were phillips and webster and b johnson. not good when secondary tackles running backs.

who cares?
there’s A TONN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! of injuries on the defense. Tuck missed the second half.
TON! of injuries.
The Linebackers are in coverage a lot to make up for the TON!!!!!! of injuries in the secondary. that’s why they aren’t loaded up for the run.

Manningham
is a regular freakin Houdini. And Steve Smith is as clutch and crisp as you can get. I loved that audible by Pierce that changed the coverage and set up the int too. I’m too happy to pick apart the flaws right now.
Flozell Adams should be suspended for what he did…twice.
Hey Jerry, Eat this!
Well said, d- line was supposed to be so deep. Where were they. No pass rush what so ever. They will not win many more games with this kind of D. They have to get it together. How great is it to see Jerry Jones choke on his enormous ego. wade Phillips is an ass as well. Eli is clutch again and the receivers did just fine. Well done
another Giants win that makes Jerry "eat it"
what about the playoff win after Jerry ordered NFC Champ tickets to Green bay for the Cowboys before the game….

Really love how the whole ESPN gamecap
is so condescending towards the Giants and amps up every play by the Pies.
John Anderson (ESPN """announcer""" for those that don’t know, cuz he really is an irrelevant human) is a dork. An idiot, a tool, a fool, and a waste of air.
What the f$%k is the internet?
Flozell is dirty
And always has been. terrible calls on the Giants at the end of the game. Holding? on who? Very bad call
Your right
Even NBC telecast was a celebration for the Cowboys. It was sickening. I loved the silence after the kick
every gamebreak highlight reel was a cowboys play in a very even game
until it was OVER. then it evened out a bit
You play to win the game!

Kudos guys
I’m heartbroken but you guys deserved it. Well done!
2009 Dallas Cowboys: 10-6
2009 New York Jets: 11-5
Thank you Dallas fan...
I for one am not hating on the fans nor the team, cuz that was an incredible game.
The telecasts and gamecaps are incredibly bias and annoying.
They kept talking about dominance for the Cowboys at halftime…yet I saw an even game that had both teams in the red zone constantly…
What the f$%k is the internet?
by FreeBradshaw on Sep 21, 2009 12:20 AM EDT up reply actions
neither team dominated
the Cowboys killed us on the ground, we killed them in the air (which is the exact opposite what anyone would have predicted). Romo’s mistakes gave us the win, but our mistakes in the red zone kept the Cowboys in a game we could have blown out. Either way, great game.
I know, it was very dumb...
even Collinsworth kept talking about “in a game dominated, the Cowboys still see themselves behind”…..
It just wasn’t true. Giants couldn’t run, Cowboys couldn’t pass (both of those for the most part, the Giants ran and the Cowboys passed well at times).
The Giants passing O was ridiculous. Cowboys, and Redskins, secondary is pretty good. And Eli torched them all night.

and the Cowboys running game was incredible too
Barber was overrated IMO in that first year, but I think he’s underrated now. The guy is very shifty, quick and fast for a back his size. He might be out for a couple weeks tho, but Choice is probably just as good.

Barber is a beast
and now that he has help to keep him fresh, he is even scarier. Bravo to the ’Boys for getting that set-up, and it damn near did the Giants in tonight.
great game, 2 good O,
Giant Pass and Cowboys Run made that game
For once, they are still trying to find Ware, who normally terrorise us.
Good luck next week
Same to you.
I actually really respect the Giants. The Cowboys/Giants rivalry is my favorite in the NFL. It’s always fun.
It’s the Eagles I can’t stand. :P
2009 Dallas Cowboys: 10-6
2009 New York Jets: 11-5
Very classy.
Unfortunately, some Cowboys fans give the rest of you bad names. Very, very bad names.
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"

What happened to the D
Our D struggled tonight with the Run, I think Uemiorya was out of position a few times as well. Boley cannot be that bad, can he? Atl had a poor Run D as well
Back in 2007-08, our defense was used to bending but not breaking and Eli was bailing us out time and again, it seems a similar script
who would have through it is the Def that is a WIP, and the Off would save their bacon
because there are a......
TON OF INJURIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They better get healthy in a hurry
i fTuck is out for a while there will be problems. Kenny Phillips played tremendous. So did the rest of the secondary
Eli's last drive
was monumental. I can’t believe what I saw, it was just totally awesome. Let’s hope none of the injuries are severe. Wasn’t pretty, but we got the win and that’s all I really care for.

Tampa was able to run on Dallas
And being how well the run worked against us this week, we better be studying tape all week. Not to mention Ward will be wanting to say hello to his former teammates.
Gaping holes
Ive never really seen that from them before. They have to start stuffing the run. They should be able to handle Ward
thats
a great word….and yes, he is a cowardly human being who should be fined and suspended for his actions

All day, lights out. Could work on the missed tackle but no one’s going to force a pass to this guy.

Hard fought game
Your team deserves the win.
But really, no mention of the Giants lucky bounces?
Like the ankle to Phillips Interception?
Like 82s juggling TD catch?
Like Ratliff’s tipped pass that still traveled all the way to number 12 hands?
I think that there’re more, but those are the most glaring that come to my mind…
But the score is the score… Wouldn’t be surprized to still see our franchises ending .500 with the Cowboys stealing the game in your house… There’s some bad blood in this rivality…
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
The one off Witten’s foot was a lucky bounce, but:
1) I never heard the whistle, and
2) it was an awful throw, anyway.
Smith’s (was it smith?) bobbled TD catch and the tipped ball caught for the first down were lucky bounces, I guess, but also good concentration by the WRs.
Tony Romo being a turnover machine is not a “lucky bounce.”
That’s like me saying “The Saints got some lucky bounces today.” (Drew Brees annhilating our D and our special teams not showing up are not lucky bounces)
The Cowboys look more talented, but more mistakes, too. Story of their last 2 seasons.
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.
Mmmmm, roles reversed
I wouldn’t call your running game and run stopping the reasons behind your team winning… Hard fought game, dude…
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
definitely
It was Romo’s great passing game that led to the win and the fact that the Gmen won the yardage battle 430-380, the turm over battle 4-0 and the time in possession battle 35-25. It really should not be as close …. now to fix the red zone offense and the injuries
Giants got plenty of lucky bounces.
and we’ll see about next time.
Cowboys in recent reg. season games had that sort of luck.
These games always seem to be a little sloppy.
I was surprised there were no unnecessary roughness stuff after the play called. None of that at all, probably cuz Jacobs yaps a lot and he didn’t do all that much…so he couldn’t yap.

Announcers
They really are annoying. I have found the best way to enjoy the game is with the sound off.
Eagles fan here
It kills me to say this, but I have never (well, ok, maybe once) been happier to see the Giants win.
Well done, Eli. Very impressed w/Manningham as well. I recall him torching PSU quite often.
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.
just returning the favor
I loved watching that 44-6 game last year. In retrospect it sucked hard for the Giants, but at the time I was loving it.
Before we crucify our defense
the Cowboys have a very good offense and our defense was really banged up. Remember, we gave up 45 and 31 points to them in 2007, and that was the defense that held the Pats to 14 points in the Super Bowl.
Hubris.
The huge TV declared Marion Barber’s TD run “The Play of The Game.” Lol.
Much like the 2007 run when Jones passed out tickets to the Conference Championship game. That’s why the wins against Dallas are the most satisfying.

That's always good news, but...
…seeing as we have to play the Saints, too, there’s reason to be apprehensive. We played the pass well these past 2 games, hopefully we’ll have our D at full compliment by week 6.
The Saints are not the Cowboys....
Kolb made mistakes, the Eagles don’t run the ball either. And speaking of Kolb…there was no McnNabb.
Different game if #5 is playing.

Good coaching again
They expect us to run at them, so the coaches got them to throw first, which set up the tone of the game, and we repeated it the rest of the game, great coaching there
Cowboy's Fan Here
Great game you guys deserved to win. (…and you’ll never know how much that hurt to say.)
I vote Kudos for C. Webster...
This is the second week in a row where we didn’t see anything from our opponent’s #1 receiver. I know Roy Williams isn’t Larry Fitzgerald, but only allowing 1 catch and hardly even another throw his way is a shutdown performance. So Ed, how about a big Kudos for Webster in tomorrow article?
Maybe
We won’t have to hear all these people saying for awhile that Romo is better than Eli. You cannot measure Qb’s with season stats.
Eli Made It Look Easy
On that final drive, didn’t he?
What else is new...

Lucky Bounces?
Come on, Cowbiy fans. Pleae be realistic. This game should not have even been close. Three times in a red zone and 6 points. Add 21 to the total and what would the score be?
Also, I love how Tony Dungy said the Cowboys dominated both sides of the line of srfimmage. Is he crazy? The Giants gave up no sacks and Eli picked them clean because of it. Very strange commentary last night. If you had the video off, and just listened, you would have thought the Cowboys were winning in a blowout.
Nevertheless
Only One Lucky Bounce!
The only lucky bounce was Phillips’ first interception. Manningham’s touchdown was far from a lucky bounce. He kept his eye on the ball, and contrary to the photo caption, it did not fall into his arms. He had to reach out to corral it. Great concentration, great hands, great route running.
by hopeforthefuture3 on Sep 21, 2009 10:25 AM EDT reply actions
well
to be honest, another lucky bounce was on the final drive, DL for the Pies tips the ball and it falls right to HAM.
The pass looked right on the money even if he didn’t tip it, but it was lucky the tip went to HAM instead of a game ending INT

Keys
Can we say more about Kenny Phillips. Kenny was all over the place in that game. Both picks were game changing plays. For starters the first yes it was flukey, but he caught that ball which was not expected. He should have been awarded a TD but instead we had to bring the O out. Which lead to the catch by Hammy. (My personal Fav nickname)
2nd pick is when we were starting to look like we were on our heels. Down by 4 and the Boys around midfield threatening Romo chucks up a 500 ball and again Kenny is in the right place. Game changing momentum changing play.
Kenny Phillips as we all know was playing hurt. How bad was it? Couldnt tell ya…he also finished with those 7 tackles.
…don’t even want to go on about how good CWeb was save one play.
If all you have to complain about a CB...
Is one 18 yard reception from a number one receiver, than you know it was a hell of a game.

Romo better than Eli??
Being a cowboys fan since birth practically you’ll never hear those words pass my lips Be Driven!! I’ve been sayin Romo blows for 2 seasons now and people are finally listening! I’m tired of hearing give the kid a chance he’s a young QB blah blah blah and if I hear one more commentator say they’re shaping Romo up to be the next Aikman I’m punching him in the nose!! lol Romo will NEVER be Aikman, I keep asking my husband if we can have Pennington, but he won’t give him up
to be honest....
if the Cowboys had Pennington, they’d turn on him in 2 games.
The Cowboys only chance of finding another Aikman is doing what the Giants did. You don’t really have to be #1 pick suck, cuz teams will be stupid (see .: whoever drafts McCoy or Bradford). Maybe you get lucky and a Jimmy Clausen falls to the Pies (and I hope not….)

Flo Admas should be suspended
He should be heavily fined and suspended without pay some games PLUS the number of games Tuck canoot play. Maybe Tuck should forget to play with one hand in sling and rest a few weeks and recover
NFL should suspend the culprits the number of games the person they hurt misses the games plus the usual sentnce of fines and game suspensions (without pay)
