Giants wary of Ware, Cowboys pass rush
DeMarcus Ware hates the New York Giants. Well, right back at you, DeMarcus. Giants' fans hate you, too. At least I do.
Actually, let me re-phrase. What I really hate is the recurring nightmare of Ware blasting around right end, slamming Eli Manning to the brand new Cowboys Stadium turn and leaving him there, permanently indented.
I have watched Ware and the Cowboys hit Manning too many times, particularly last season. In two meetings, Ware sacked Manning four times. The Cowboys sack Manning eight times in a 20-8 victory last season in Texas.
David Diehl and the Giants linemen remember.
"It was a bad day," Diehl said. "Back then, we were man enough to stand up and say it wasn't a good game, and we're man enough to do the same. The only thing you can do now is make sure that doesn't happen again."
Eli Manning knows he doesn't want to see Ware draped all over him much of Sunday night.
"He is a very talented player and kind of what I said, we have to be able to run the ball to slow them down on the pass rush," Manning said. "Get the ball out quickly and timely, guys have to get open. But we’ve got to know where he is."
Let's hope the Giants are able to find Ware Sunday. And that they find him before he finds Eli.

Screen passes and draws.
I also liked them using shotgun more instead of only during the 2 minute drill.
I liked the gameplan against the Redskins. The execution was a little off at times of course in week one, but the overall gameplan I liked.
I agreed with Eli when he said they should be throwing a little more. This team should always be balanced, but to me this season balanced means more throwing for Eli.
Im sure the Pies are gonna try to get Witten involved a lot; Id like to copy that idea and get Boss more touches. The more I see him play, the more he just looks like Witten out there. I have no idea if he’s that sort of TE, but its hard to tell cuz they don’t use him enough.
What the f$%k is the internet?
Screens
We saw a lot of ‘bubble’ type screens or quick tosses out to the wideouts. I think we will see a lot of that Sunday, and throughout the year.
The very first play was a short throw to Manningham where the Giants rolled the pocket and brought him underneath. We’ll see more of that, too.

yup.
And one thing Id love to see back in there is the draw. D-Ward ran it to perfection and while the overal numbers I think will say we won’t miss him, that play is one that we will miss Ward.
Jacobs can’t run it, but Id love to see Bradshaw get a few carries on the draw.
As for the screens, I know for a fact there was at least one time last year I saw a screen to Boss and it gained 15 yards. I don’t know if Gilbride got pancake syrup on that part of the IHOP menu (playbook) he carries around, but if that happens on Sunday night, I will at least attempt to jump and reach my 15 foot ceiling.

Draws
Sorry, but I find that funny. I can’t tell you how many times last season I read comments criticizing KG for his never-ending fascination w/running the draw play. Now, here you are advocating it.
Makes me laugh. It comes down to this — no matter what the play call, if it works the guy is brilliant. If it doesn’t work he’s an idiot. Can’t win.

well I wasn't here last year :)
I always loved the draw play with Ward.
Here in NE, I had to watch the Patriots all year last year…and it made their below average RB’s into chain movers.

I know
The draw can be effective, provided it isn’t used so often it becomes obvious.

That's the key point
it is great when a team is straight up pass rushing because you can surprise them with it. But it needs the defense to not be expecting it for it to be successful, because the RB is at a disadvantage starting from a standstill. If used too much (as happened at times, leading to the criticism) the RB is a sitting duck.

Speaking of pass rush
the Giants have a decent pass rush of their own but Ralph Vacchiano has this to offer in his article today;
‘The Giants are hopeful that all but Ross will play on Sunday, which is good since they’ll need more than a strong pass rush to contain Romo. The Giants don’t sack him often (nine times in five games), and the pressure rarely rattles him since he’s so good at throwing on the run’.
Now maybe I’m dim but if you sack a QB 9 times in 5 games(1.8 sacks per) that would be good.
for the Giants?
No, 2 sacks is below average.
They get pressure, but can’t sack that slippery bastard.

by FreeBradshaw on Sep 17, 2009 8:45 AM EDT up reply actions
The question is if 2 sacks per gm on Romo is good
He is elusive and most of his big plays come from avoiding the rush. That said I think bringing him down 2x a game is good
One of the most enraging things for me
is seeing the D-Line just about get to a quarterback, only to have him slip through and make a big play (run or pass). You know, sort of like Eli in the Superbowl, but for other teams and in less awesome situations.
You play to win the game!

need to avg. 3
The top sacking D’s for the season generally put up around that 50 sack mark. That comes out to a little more than 3 a game. I give more credit to Romo’s slipperiness than to those old boulders out there they call a line, but yeah, it would be nice to see him on his ass a little more. Hope Sintim’s good to go for this game so we can get our 4 elite pass rushers after him at once.
If we get Romo down 3-4 times on sunday I think we win the game
I would love to see that happen. Sintim and Boley playing Sunday changes the whole defense. I think AP can attack the backfield more with Boley on Witten.
Boley
Don’t get carried away with Boley at this point. Wednesday was the first time this season he has even practiced fully. He’s not 100% yet, either. So, I think it’s way too soon to start looking at him as a game-changer. Sintim, though, is a different story. That guy is a pass-rushing monster.
by Ed Valentine on Sep 17, 2009 9:22 AM EDT up reply actions
Sure
But, the questions are 1) How fit is he? 2) How well does he understand the defense? 3) Until he gets more work in practice is he a better option than Blackburn, Kehl or Wilkinson?
by Ed Valentine on Sep 17, 2009 12:26 PM EDT up reply actions
Agree..
Sintim is awesome..I hope they move him around alot and keep them guessing..Romo has to already look for Osi, Tuck..Canty..Now you move Sintim around, and Romo will be confused and disoriented.
This will be a tough game.
GMen have some key injuries.
The Giant’s OL does NOT match up well with the DL of Dallas. I see Eli having a hard time back there on Sunday.
Conversely, Romo is hard for anyone to sack.
The Giant LBs and DBs (TT and KP) will have to play a very very good game.
The key will be – can the Giants run the ball and chew up the clock to keep Romo off the field? If turnovers are equal this is the tipping point of the game. (of course he threw several long TDs last week) And to keep the Cowboys from putting 8 in the box Eli must at least keep them honest with the pass.
I see this possibly going into OT. Either team could win this one. Hope I am wrong and the Giants win comfortably. Dunno.
If Sheridan..gets our guys on Defense in synch..
It will be a long day for Romo..We need him to give them the “Spags” treatment.
Very Good Analysis
MSP Giant. It will be a good game. I agree with everything you said. And this is coming from a blue and silver bleeding Cowboys fan.
I HATE THE COWGIRLS
I hate everything about the cowboys. I hate the team, I hate the owner, I hate the stadium(well I kinda like the new one) but I really really hate this team.

Well they have a nice new TV set.
Hopefully, we’ll get of “Frog-man Jones” making faces in disgust before he heads down to the field to takeover…What a jerk.
wow
tell us how you really feel. LOL
I have an ex-gf cowboys fan. She has been stalking me for weeks now and I’m finding it especially annoying this week. I might not be able to resist the urge to call her on monday after we ruin the housewarming party.
I try not to hate, but I’m not a big fan of Texas. Too many wacko, secessionist types there. Good BBQ, though! ;-) I’ll take Austin, you can keep the rest…
LOL!!!
Could be worse for you…My wife is a Cowboy fan..(Damn the luck!!), Hence I don’t have to worry about be “Stalked”..She’ll be sitting right next to me..“Hen-pecking”..lol…You can have Austin..I’ll take the Alamo!!!…lol
Ha!
Funny stuff… I remember reading about your wife in another post. Good luck on Sunday.
It wasn’t so bad when we were dating. We got along well and could laugh it off. Unfortunately, right now it’s just one more thing that annoys me about her… I’d give her a pass if she was from Texas, but she’s from Chicago.

LOL!!
My wife is from Jersey..I ask her how she could possibly be a damn Cowboy fan..I get the a-typical Texan answer: “Duh, I dunno”..haha..I’ll have to stare at our two hats on the TV console..Her Cowboy hat is on the left..My Giant hat is on the right (where it should be)..but I always fix her extra hot hot wings when our teams play..Please keep that a secret..lol..I always tell her after she starts gagging: “What?!?..Choking again???..Your just like Romo!!”
There's only one thing to say about your wife...
SHE IS ONE CLASSY, SMART CHICK. One question though, does the loser’s team have to sleep on the coach Sunday night???
Don't worry Rubman3...
Cowboys Nation doesn’t like you or your team much either. And good job coming up with that original “Cowgirls” statement. I know that took a lot of thought.
Actually...
Them there “Cowgirls” are pretty cute..Phillips should start them!!
Pressure
will need to put pressure on romo as much as possible. even if we dont get the sack totals, will still need to knock him off his game and put em on his ass as much as possible.
Exactly..
That is the key..and stuff Ware’s comment down his throat (“I hate the Giants”)..I hope we beat him like a rented mule..Which the cowgirls are..rented mules.
Let's go with "Hate Bowl 2009"

release barabbas!
crucify Hoya!
Interesting asidefrom Wikipedia: Hyam Maccoby and some other scholars have asserted that Jesus was known as “bar-Abba” (son of the father) because of his custom of addressing God as ‘Abba’ in prayer, and referring to God as Abba in his preaching. It follows that when the Jewish crowd clamored before Pontius Pilate to “free Bar Abba” they could have meant Jesus. Anti-Semitic elements in the Christian church, the argument goes, altered the narrative to make it appear that the demand was for the freedom of somebody else (a brigand or insurrectionist) named “Barabbas”. This was, the theory goes, part of the tendency to shift the blame for the Crucifixion towards the Jews and away from the Romans.
Seriously, though. Nobody is the second coming of LT.
You play to win the game!

he's a great talent
and clearly the best player on that defense. texas is spoiled with LBs with demaco ryans down there too.
but i don’t think ware will ever be quite the player LT was, just because the nature of defenses has changed so much, and the roles of linerbackers has changed and passed the role of pass rushers to DEs and hybrids like terrell suggs.
Shame on you Hoya
Just like Jordan, Ali, Woods……there will never be another LT. Also, there’s a certain back in San Diego that should drop that moniker. Guy gets a hang nail and he’s done for the game!
No way that guy is in the caliber of LT
LT could / did takeover games..He was more than a LB..He was more like two defensive ends in one body..He could start from his side and chase down a runner before they reached the line of scrimmage on the other side of the field…and God help a QB trying to pass against him..He played one game with a dis-located shoulder, and still beat the snot out of people..bottom line: Ware does not compare…and Tomlinson needs to change his name..He shouldn’t be called “LT”..He’s already hurt again…He should change his name to : Suzy Jones or something…calling that guy “LT” is a football sin.
I agree
Only way someone comes close to being in the same category as LT is if we cloned him. I believe he played with a broken leg once too.
Yes he did play with a broken leg also..that guy was
An animal!!..and I wish we could clone him..I forget / Can’t recall his broken leg game..was it Washington?..I remember going to training camp and there was this local bar..I forget the name of that place ..but the players would hang out there and LT (I’ll never forget it) starting climbing up on the bar and jumping off into full “hand stands”..I was like, holy crap!!..this guy is crazy!!..You couldn’t get an autograph from him because he had 110% gameface on from the start of camp thru the whole season..I suppose you might have been able to in March..before camps started. He was the best ever.
Ted Hendricks was also nuts..He was good, but no LT..
Madden one day went into the bathroom after practice and spotted Hendricks staring into the urinal..Suddenly Hendricks reached in his pocket and tossed a 20.00 bill in it..Madden said: “Ted, are you alright! what the hell are you doing!?!”..and Hendricks said: “Yeah..but I’m not sticking my hand in this toilet for a Quarter!!!”..I’ve played golf with him and we talk on occasion..He is a literall wild man..We met at a annual tournament that Larry Little sponsored up in N.C….They’d pair you up with Pro football players..He can drink more beer and other alcohol than anyone I have ever seen!! We played against L.C. Greenwood one year (who looked like he could still play football..huge man!)..He smoked cigars the size of Pepperoni sticks..On the ninth hole, he hit his tee-shot dead square in the woods..a forest..We helped him find his ball, and he took out a three iron from 195 away, and all we witnessed was tree branches breaking as the ball lofted..L.C. stuck it within three feet of the pin!..They beat us!..Ted was pissed off..lol!!
FAIL
There is no second coming of LT. LT changed how the position was played, revolutionized play-calling on both sides of the ball because of his incredible skills, and pretty much changed the game. Ware is a good player, but let’s not get crazy. Nobody is triple-teaming him just yet…
I read that last year Ware and the ’boys feasted on the Giants O-Line when some of them were both sick (with flu) and injured. Adam Koets gave up 3 of the 8 sacks subbing for McKenzie. (thankfully Koets has improved a little and is not our 1st backup.) I think with everyone on the OL healthy and clicking on all cylinders, we can limit their sacks and control the line of scrimmage.

That’s the most intelligent and correct statement I’ve read on this site. The sign of a true fan and gentleman is the ability to recognize an opponent’s talent and be honest about it.
You have earned my respect sir. It’s going to be a great game Sunday night.
With that being said, GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Word
Can’t wait to see Ware slam Manning to the turf. :P
P.S. – Giants fans, what is the picture representing this here blog? It looks like a video game figure…I’ve never understood. Can someone fill me in?
2009 Dallas Cowboys: 10-6
2009 New York Jets: 11-5
Ware's comment "I hate the Giants"
I take that in a different light. To me, that is the ultimate compliment and show of respect. He wouldn’t hate us (and we not hate the Cowboys) if the teams weren’t so competitive and played so well against each other. Look at it like this, I doubt if anyone is hating the Lions or Rams right now…..maybe their own fans, but teams know that those two teams should be easy wins. Why hate them? Basically, Ware hates the Giants because we are hard to beat and we hate them for the same reason. In a nutshell, I love it when someone hates the Giants. Shows me that the Giants are doing something right. Shows me that the Giants have their respect.

Well he does fear them
Because the Giants beat them..Don’t talk the walk..Walk the talk….Don’t get me wrong Ware is a great player, but he should keep his mouth shut..The Giants will have a plan that frustrates him..Count on it..They’ll take him right out of the game. He now has painted a huge target on his jersey..thanks to his big mouth..and Phillips will not have a response..afterall, he falls asleep on the sidelines..and after Jones gets done watching himself on his brand new TV set..Will show up on the sideline, to take over and help them assure a loss.
fierce competition
It’s not really hate. Only one can be champs. There is a lot at $take for these players, coaches, management and owners.
W’s = $$. Motivation is a good psych tool.
NJgiant,
Very true. Hate comes out of frustration. All the teams in the NFC East hate each other because over the years each team has had it’s fair share of success. Well, except the Eagles, that is. ):P
Ware
The Giants must make the Cowboys pay for Ware’s blitzing, Quick short passes or run at him. King Tuck and Co. just might send Romo for a years vocation too.
The Giants DL with King Tuck and Co. will take care of business,
while the Wizard of O’s will do enough to bring home the smiles.
Short passes and quick release
may halp avoid sacks, but running at Ware is not a great idea. He is very good against the run, aswell as being a quality pass rusher.
The Knights season may have just ended, but the Cowboys year is just begining!

INTENSITY, INTENSITY AND INTENSITY. The Giants must play them with the
utmost intensity. If the Giants have any killer instinct in them, use them on the Cowboys.
