I know!

Best Fan Post Ever, am I right?!

Seriously though – are we wanting to reconsider? I’m guessing most likely not, especially given the nonsense from Osi yesterday, and that Amani should have other opportunities, but it does seem awfully early for them to cut him. I wonder what went wrong for him over there, if he’s lost a step or had a bad relationship with the coaches or what.

Sad.

he seemed unhappy when he left. i don’t think there’s a chance for his return.

The Chiefs need WR

and cut Toom.

So why would we bring him back? (this is to anyone that wants him back)

He’s as slow as molasses now too.

I loved Toom when he was here. I really hope he understands now the reason the Giants didn’t bring him back…..cuz the Chiefs didn’t want him either.

hes kinda like hines ward though

hines ward is also really slow now but if u need a clutch catch and a few yards hes your man and in a way toomer is like that if u need a few yards and a nice route hes a good guy to have on the field but bringing him in would mean cutting a receiver who should be on the team

I don't know why

But I feel ashamed about this

You're not the only one,

Somehow I don’t think this is the end we imagined for the G.O.A.T.

Toomer always a GIANT!

A class act. A great Giant! Once he is officially retired (this year or next…) I hope we the fans can give him a correct send off! He has been a quality
guy.

I'd bring him back..

The man knows how to run routes..Yea he’s slowed a bit but he can catch..What a great mentor he’d be for Nicks and Barden.

It sucks for Toomer but he won't be asked back...

Re-signing Toomer totally contradicts the idea that the Giants coaching staff believes in and is going to stick with this young receiving core. Re-signing Toomer would be a slap in the face to these guys because it says “we need someone who has at least proven they can catch a ball”.

We need to stick with this young receiving core of:

Nicks
Smith
Hixon
Manningham
Barden
Hagan

There is a lot of raw talent here. If we get these guys on the same page we can do a lot of good things. I personally think everybody will be in full stride by early to mid-season. There is youth, height, and speed amongst this group.

Even though the preseason has not been going too well for this core I am still very excited about them.

we keep only 6 WRs too

Moss and Tyree are gone for sure if I was running the Giants. This opens up another spot to keep 3 QBs with Bomar getting a spot over Andre Woodson. Bomar is another young talented guy who we need to keep on the roster and not on the practice squad. Carr will be gone in the future to play somewhere else so we need Bomar to stay w/ the Giants and learn the system as much as can now.

Toomer

When the San Francisco 49ers were in their heyday under Bill Walsh, they had a policy of moving out a certain number of older players each year and replacing them with younger ones. Even all-pros like Ronnie Lott and Jerry Rice finished their careers with other teams. If you replace talent with talent (the tricky part), you stay competitive continuously – the whole team doesn’t grow old at once, as the Steelers did under Chuck Noll – and you reduce your salary cap problems (I believe Toomer made $3 million his last year).
Besides, in 2008 Amani showed he could no longer get separation from the DBs. The Giants have a lot of young, cheap guys who cannot get separation but who might develop into something.

can't get seperation???

I think the opposite. Our youngs get plenty of seperation they are just having problems catching the ball.

by 732jerseyP on Sep 2, 2009 10:28 AM EDT up reply actions

agree,

separation is not the problem with these guys, unlike Toomer and Plaxico actually.

That’s why the O this year has more potential, cuz the WR actually get separation. Its the whole doing the thing you think of when you think ‘WR’…that’s catch the damn ball.

young players can't catch?? not abnormal

I was watching a tv show on top receivers in the NFL history. With Jerry Rice he had a big issue early (very) in his career holding onto the ball. He then got over it. We have very solid young core that I also feel will get over it…in my opinion just thinking/trying too hard. We may have to be patient for a bit.
As for Toomer…wouldn’t be great to see him as a part of the Giants again in near future i.e. coach. I think he has those type skills (communication, knowledge, credibility, professionalism…stuff we have all seen) Just my wish…

What do you think about

the idea of having an Amami Toomer day and retire his #81 before Giants Stadium closes?
He does have the most catches all time for the Giants.

by letsgogiants98 on Sep 2, 2009 9:12 PM EDT reply actions

I have no problem with letting TOom retire as a Gint.

Well, he needs to anyway. He might play somewhere this year, but if the Chiefs cut him after no one else really gave him a shot, I think he’s shot too..

I hope Toom finds something but in the end he does need to get one of those 1 day contracts and retire as a Gint.

1-Day playing contract, then hire as Asst. to Mike Sullivan

Now Toomer is a guy that could pass on some knowledge to the young WR corps. (Unlike the crazy talk about Marvin Harrison filling that role). Let him retire a Giant if he can’t find work and hire him as an advisor or something. Some retired Giants deserve to walk the sideline on gameday. Ahh, I can still visualize his 4th quater catch down the sideline last year against Cincy. That. was. glorious.

God Bless

We can’t count the number of times Toomer took our breath away. I think he will be remembered best for his rubber ankles. Once he caught the ball along the sidelines he feet would remain planted but it looked like his ankles would give way and he would fall out of bounds. Especially in the Green Bay playoff game.

I agree with giving him a 1 day contract and bringing him back during the season for a halftime celebration of his career.

send him out for the opening coin toss

that would be stellar

bring him back

i mean trust me i love the youth with the receievers.. but lets be honest.. weve seen all the passes theyve dropped during preseason..

we need to have a solid vet that we know will be reliable enough to make a 5 yd catch on 3rd down during a crucial part of the game..

we dont need that, so tommer would be a great guy to bring in.. him and eli have such good chemistry..

by Moshe52792 on Sep 5, 2009 3:49 PM EDT reply actions

i mean

i mean.. we DO need that.. my bad

by Moshe52792 on Sep 5, 2009 3:50 PM EDT reply actions

If he doesn´t survive even the first cuts in Kansas City that means he´s done.

Yeah, we like NFL here in Brazil.
