According to published reports, Eli Manning is about to become the highest paid player in the NFL.

NFL sources then said the quarterback would probably end up with a deal worth $110-120 million with more than $40 million in guarantees. That could still be the case, though one source said the final total could be lower.

Update Ralph V. from The Daily News

“The Giants quarterback and former Super Bowl MVP has agreed to a new seven-year, $106.9 million contract that he is expected to sign later today, according to a source familiar with the negotiations. Though it’s not the largest deal in NFL history, the average of $15.27 million per year is a new NFL high.

That deal has been in the works since last year, as the Daily News first reported in January. Though hit didn’t quite hit the $120 million mark that NFL sources expected, it still made Manning the eighth member of the $100 million Quarterback Club.

The deal is actually a six-year, $97.5 million extension which will keep him with the Giants through the 2015 season. It tops the $100 million barrier when you add in the $9.4 million he was due this season, which will apparently be included in the new deal.

According to one report, the deal will include $35 million in guaranteed money."

highest paid player?

I love Eli. As a Giant fan, obviously, I’m rooting for him. I think that he will lead us to at least one more Super Bowl during his career. But does he really deserve to be the highest paid player in the league? I know someone will pass him before too long, and that the deal will probably be re-structured at some point anyway, but as much as I like Eli, he isn’t the best player in the league. So I don’t know what to make of this.

Yeah

but the Steelers did something similar they made Big Ben the “highest Paid” player in the league, when he singed a big extention. Some one else will pass it in the next year and then that title will be gone and forgoten.

I am glad that he is looked up and will be in Blue for his career hopefully. All these details are being worked out now it is time to focus on football!

I tend to agree with you. I love Eli but I’d argue that the GMen don’t put emphasis on the passing game. We are all about D and running the football. I love Eli but I think that is a lot of money to pay a player who isn’t the focal point of the offense.

Your right

we are a run the ball and play great defense team and thats how we have won at least 2 of our SB’s. I think that because Eli has a cool calm attitude and can manage the offense. He is perfect for the media. It also means consistency at a position that really controls the offense.

I don’t get all wrapped up in the highest paid player thing, by next year it will probably be someone else.

Eli has a Super Bowl ring, an extremely hot wife, and more money than Davy Crockett, who’s better than him?

It's not all just about football here.

Eli is a happy face for the franchise, and gives the G-men all kinds of marketing opps they wouldn’t get with a no-name, functional QB.

I’m cool with the contract. I think Eli still has room to grow and is a durable and committed player. I just wish he would figure out how to throw a pass at the Meadowlands so I don’t have to root for us to NOT have home field in big games in the future.

Keep in mind...

Eli’s deal had $35 Million guaranteed and Matthew Stafford (a rookie) is getting somewhere around $47.1 million.

exactly

when were talking about Eli’s contract, you need to take a gander at some of the other ridiculousness around the league.

Why didn’t Eli not request more than Stafford? I would have if I was him…….

Eli

knows he’s never gonna get cut. If Stafford turns out to be a complete bust, the Lions might cut him. So the guaranteed money’s not quite as important to Eli. At least that’s my reading of the situation

We will all be laughing soon...

When Eli takes us to the promised land again. He is one of the best QBs in the league in the 4th quarter. Lets face it, no one in here cares about stats. The only thing that ever matters is the Lombardi Trophy. If Eli can bring us another championship who cares how much he makes. Bring us another title Eli that’s all we ask. And tito you are most assuredly right. Rookie contracts such as Matthew Stafford surely inflate that of veterans who have proven themselves not only in the regular season but the BIG STAGE!!

He deserves it..

..but the Giants should bring Phil Simms in to teach him how to deal with the swirling winds at the Meadowlands..Simms would throw BBs in that mess, while the competition could only throw butterflies. Eli is the future for our team..just needs advice on how to zing it thru the winds.

That'd be a dream come true...

If only he wasn’t so busy coming up with his "Phil"osiphy for AFC teams every Sunday.
