Umenyiora apologizes for leaving
An apologetic Osi Umenyiora returned to the Giants after leaving earlier today, and issued the following statement:
"I made a mistake by leaving the facility today. I was wrong. I came in here this afternoon and met with coach Coughlin, coach Sheridan and coach Waufle and apologized and explained why I left the building; that will remain between us. I have no problem with our defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan or any of our coaches. That’s the end of it, as far as I am concerned."
So, theoretically, that is the end of the issue. Let's hope so. I honestly don't have any clue what precipitated tensions between Umenyiora and Sheridan. If the defensive coordinator criticized Osi for anything after Saturday's game I would guess it is Umenyiora's penchant for snap-jumping, which leaves him horribly out of position if the offense happens to call a running play.

Hmmm...that's really weird..
I would never thought that Osi would do something like that..Strange and out of character.

Hey, he man'd up and sat down with the coaches...
this could have easily gotten ugly and it didn’t. I commend Osi for doing that.
Ed brings up a good point about the off sides. Osi has claimed to have a “secret” that I believe he shared with Alford about getting off the ball…there could be some disagrement there.
One thing stood out in regards to Osi’s statement:
“If I’m taken out at a time when I feel a play needs to be made, am I going to be happy about it? Of course not,” Umenyiora said. "But I’m not going to blow up on the sideline and curse my coach out like some of these receivers do. …
Could this be a playing time issue in August??? IMO Osi must show that he’s the Osi of old before he can justify playing every snap, b/c Kiwi does deserve some time. Quite honestly Tuck could use the rest and if those spurrs are acting up…well that’s another subject.

I agree
Osi really shouldn’t be making demands and playing the diva. He has a lot to prove.

I agree andiamo
At least he came back to the fold right away..and he does have to prove he’s back from that injury..He’s got a 45 million dollar contract..Listen to the coaches and do what they say..Coaches make didly squat compared to these players, but they call the shots..If I’m making 45 million I’d ask them how high when they say jump.

Wasn't the knock on Osi
that he wasn’t as good at defending the run as he was rushing the passer when Strahan was around? That’s why offenses would run more to his side than Strahan’s the ‘06 and ’07 seasons even though after that one season Strahan had broken his leg? I don’t wanna speculate on what’s going on behind closed doors, but according to Vacchiano’s twitter Osi and Sheridan apparently spent alittle bit too much time together during the offseason and if Sheridan tells him he messed up on a run play and people are saying Tuck’s more complete he’s probably seeing flash backs of the Strahan days.
Wow, what a joke. Have fun with that one, I'm going to Quiznos!

This entire defense needs to realize
The potential they have as a unit..not as an individual..There is too much talent for one guy to piss and moan..If they can comprehend that they will be the best in the league.

Osi vs. Tuck
both very good players…when healthy I have to give the nod to Tuck because again, when healthy he demands a double team. I thought Osi has picked up his game big time in terms of defending against the run…even recognizing and getting out on screen passes.
I thought that when Osi was younger he was a lot like kiwi and really only relied on that one outside speed move, but I can honestly say Osi really picked his game up. I really hate that move though…the guys who do it best are the guys who can still rush inside or bull rush the tackle. When kiwi starts bullrushing a few guys his speed will be that much more effective. I see Osi doing a lot of outside rushes too, so far this pre season…that’s why i question his knee b/c he needs to get some drive and put his body on some of these olinemen.

I think
we should just bury the issue, it’s over with and it’s time to focus on winning a championship.

Playing time
I saw somewhere that Osi’s playing time was mentioned.
Is it possible that Osi was told that he was now the no 3 DE behind Tuck and Kiwi and was unhappy at that?
I hope that the matter is settled and Osi will play with a chip on his shoulder when the season starts.

the man's human...
how many of us have had a bad day at work? Lost their cool, got over emotional and said something they regretted. Let’s move on and hope this fires Osi and the D Line up. Go G Men!
