Comfort Level with your Run Offence
First off, I am a Lions fan who very much admires the Giants offence and their commitment to the run. You guys have a great O line and some excellent running backs. However, Brandon Jacobs has a history of missing three or four games a year and Ahmad Bradshaw, while a great change of pace back, does not seem able to carry the full load [I am sure FreeBradshaw will have something to say about that]. I have not heard much about Danny Ware. Will he be able to fill Derrick Ward's spot? I heard Andre Brown [I liked that pick a lot even though he was a risk] is out for the year, did the Giants pick up any other RBs?
Again I still consider your team to be the favourite to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, but you need a healthy and rested Jacobs to do that. Any comments will be appreciated.

North,
I’m strongly confident that, barring injury, the Giants will have a top-5 rush at the very least. The whole platoon-back attack really has come into favor over the last 10 years, and I still don’t see having 3 viable 1st-tier rushers as a must — although Ware should be competent.

LOL!
Im always called out by name when Bradshaw is mentioned….
No, I don’t think Ahmad could carry the full load if forced to, but that’s why we have a Danny Ware on the squad. I do think that he’ll make us Gint fans forget all about Ward (and opposing teams fans wondering how the hell the Giants have ANOTHER excellent RB)
Jacobs is always injury prone and I agree, there’s a good chance he’ll miss some time. But injuries are not a rate stat, you really there’s always the chance, if small, that he stays relatively healthy (for a RB) the whole season.
Andre Brown was supposedly beating out Ware for the #3 spot, so given that the Giants like to use 3 backs, that may hurt (cuz if one of the 3 main guys is injured, they are missing a talented 4th guy—like Ware would have been last year).
I think Ware, actually like Brown, is a Derrick Ward clone. I think both are faster than Ward tho, so they might end up being better.
It all depends on the O-line, so them staying healthy is more important than anything. Jacobs will be a beast when he’s healthy, but I really don’t think the Giants go as Jacobs goes, I really think Bradshaw and Ware could get it done if they were the only 2 options.

FB, I don't see you visiting POD anymore. Too busy with your team?
I sort of agree with you both that it is likely that your rush offence will still be top five during the regular season. But during the playoffs you will tend to lean on Jacobs a hell of a lot more. You will need him to be rested and healthy. You guys seem to be reasonably somewhat confident [hopeful?] that Ware can fill Ward’s shoes. Although I wonder why he was not given more of an opportunity in 2008?
So I take it that the Giants have not added another RB?
by NorthLeft12 on Aug 27, 2009 12:15 PM EDT up reply actions
Ware was not given an opportunity
cuz he was the #4 back on the team!
He’ll get his chance now this season with Brown out. I don’t know that I’m confident in him, cuz he hasn’t done anything yet.
And I have been on POD, just no posting. I’ve been paying attention more to the Yankees actually.

I think it's very fair to assume...
The Rushing game is very far down on the list of concerns for the ’09 Giants.
And honestly, from what I’ve seen out of Bradshaw this off season…I’m pretty excited to see him get carries.

We are VERY comfortable with our run game, and rightfully so. When one RB has gone down, this offense hasn’t skipped a beat. Ward and Bradshaw carried the load when Brandon Jacobs was injured, Bradshaw torched the Bills to get us into the playoffs, and Jacobs and Bradshaw didn’t skip a beat in the playoffs with Ward injured— and Bradshaw, a rookie at the time, led the team in rushing yards in the SB. Here’s a good way to qualify our RBs. Against the NFL’s #1 rush defense last year (Ravens), Jacobs played for the first quarter and picked up 70 yds and 2 TDs, then sat out. Once Ward and Bradshaw were through, we had rushed for 209 yards against them, while they hadnt let up 100 yards rushing since 2006, and no more than 65 a game the entire season up to that point. The Coughlin Adminstration won’t keep any RB around that doesn’t have tremendous talent and potential (ask Reuben Droughns), so in the little we have seen from Danny Ware during this preseason and last, we expect he’ll be great getting around 80-85 touches this year like Bradshaw as the #3 guy.
Added RB
Didn’t really add one we do have a fourth in Patrick who looked decent but i think everyone is mistaken here by saying Bradshaw cant carry the load, shoot he carried out running game his rookie year in the playoffs and superbowl. I have to say that IMO Bradshaw could be our number one(and only) if needed(jacobs goes down). He hasn’t done anything for people to say he can’t carry the load, please tell me where this is coming from!!! Like Tito said, the running game isn’t a concern but injuries for ALL NFL teams is a huge concern. Not many teams can afford starters to go down for a long time and still win the big game. Except us in 2007 lol.
Better question.. Will the Lions win a game?
they'll win three!

Not sold on Bradshaw as a #1
I like him, but he is not someone I want as the #1 option for any long period of time.
Thats fine
Everyone can have there opinions i just want to know why your not sold on him.. i gave some of my reason why i am sold on him and got plenty more, like he did it in college, his heart and desire to win(proven in superbowl by ripping away that fumble he never should of got) love his grit attitude… So what noone is telling me is why you guys don’t trust him to be a full time starter… and btw i’d rather BJ be the starter i love the guy just saying with Bradshaw back there i’m not worried one bit…
11-5

gobs, in 2007 are you just referring to Derrick Ward's injury in early December?
I looked at your roster for 2007 [Link: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyg/2007_roster.htm] and outside of Jacobs missing five games, Ward missing eight, and Bradshaw missing four, I only saw Kiwanuka missing more than a couple games [he missed six]. Your O line played all sixteen games together. That is impressive.
I guess my point was that RBs are historically beat up and prone to injury. With your reliance on the running game and the injury history of Jacobs especially, I just wondered how you felt without a proven third back. No insult intended.
Oh, and I as I said below, three to five wins seems reasonable to me.

Shockey ring a bell?
I dont feel insulted i just want to know why everyone including Giants fans are hating on bradshaw(even Freebradshaw) I think he will be fine and could/will step up as the full time guy if/when needed… So tell me why you feel he can’t… And Ware isn’t taking over Wards spot.. Bradshaw is… Ware is Taking over Bradshaws spot.. Get it??
BJ never missed more then 5 games and Bradshaw is plenty good enough to pick up the slack.. Anyone who thinks he isn’t will just have to wait and see if it ever happens… I think Ware is fine but if any team in the NFL is starting there 3rd string RB they are in trouble… So your point has escaped me
calm down big fella
nobody’s hatin’ on Bradshaw. He’s well liked at BBV. He’s a great runner and solid as a pass-catching back. His game is, dare I say it, Tiki-like. NL12 was looking for insight on our RB depth, not dissing anyone! I’ll be rooting for the Lions this year, in that don’t-really-care-but-want’em-to-do-well sorta way.
You play to win the game!

It depends on what you mean by "full time"/
cuz all three of the Giants backs aren’t asked to do that. Full time to me is 25-30 carries, a few catches…usually about 35-40 touches, something like that. I mean for one game, or a few games, then yea, he could still be nasty out there.
I don’t know how you say I’m hating on my boy. I mean Tiki eventually did it, but he proved that. Bradshaw hasn’t proved it, so I’ll be skeptical of him being the “main guy”, like Steven Jackson type “main guy”.
The Giants rotate their backs so I doubt that no matter how many of them get hurt, none of them will ever have to be that “main guy”.
Danny Ware basically the same thing too, I think he could be very good for the Gints this season, but as the sole RB I don’t think he’s that type (and that’s OK cuz he doesn’t have to).
Now I think Jacobs and Bradshaw rushes for 1,000+ yards each this season with Ware going for around 300….

Thank god
Someone finally gave an opinion… now i agree we dont have anyone that carries the load BJ, Bradshaw or Ware.. Ward didnt do it guy was hurt just has much as BJ has been… But IMO i think BJ or Bradshaw could do it… The NFL doesn’t have many guys that do anymore but i feel these two have shown enough(barring injury) to be the 25 carry a game work horse… I just wanted a little justification as to why SOME people dont think he could, BJ hasn’t either but people seem to think he can(including me) but still unproven, My point is i love them both and feel either one could be the man if need be… We didnt use bradshaw much at all last year so no need to worry about who our third is…
We didn't use Bradshaw as much last year
cuz like Ahmad said, he was injured and not as explosive as he wanted to be for a lot of the year….and also Ward handled a lot of the carries when Jacobs was injured (or not injured too).
Ward was hurt in 07, but not in 08. He really was a big part of the offense last year. I say we don’t miss him not only cuz Bradshaw can do what Ward did, but also Danny Ware is a clone of Ward and is also a lot faster.

I was watching a little of the Tampa-Miami game
and it reminded me of how everyone seems to think we’re going to miss Ward. Looked to me like Ward is going to miss the Giant O-line more than the Giants miss him.
Yessssss SIR
But to FreeBradshaws defense he did say Bradshaw would rush for 1,000yds, proving my point..
Matter Fact....
Ward might end up cut and back with us lol Cadillac and Ernest are going to be the main dudes carrying that rock in Tampa lol
Shockey was on the roster for fourteen of sixteen games in 2007.
Then you showed him the door, I mean ripped off New Orleans, the next year.
I guess my point was that last year 2008 Derrick Ward was an important part of your offence. You and others think you have guys that will step up for him. I thought that Brown was drafted to pretty much be Ward’s replacement. Now that he is out I wondered how you felt about your RB situation.
Your offence last year did a great job of using your three backs, keeping players fresh for the post season. I think that was the strength of your team last year [along with the O line]. Don’t get worked up about nothing man.
by NorthLeft12 on Aug 28, 2009 12:50 PM EDT up reply actions
Brown wasn't drafted to replaced WARD!!! Bradshaw is Wards replacement... always was
He was never going to be Wards replacement, Bradshaw is has i posted before… So again you thought wrong… Brown was a unproven rookie how could you think we planed to move him to #2 and put Bradshaw at 3?? It doesn’t make sense and if you look at last years stats we pretty much used 2 running backs, All year long i was like wheres my 44 but it didn’t happen for him much last year… so this years Ward is and always was going to be Bradshaw.. Brown was brought in for depth but you cant depend on third stringers, Jacobs/Bradshaw is perfect we don’t and didn’t need anything else… Ware will be good as a 3 but he won’t see the field much…
Bradshaw is the reason Ward wasn’t brought back… Not trying to be confrontational just letting you know Brown wasn’t going to crack the top 2 back positions… If you want the answer to your question your going to have to watch us all year and add the numbers up at the end… If our OL gets hurt our rushing numbers will suffer, we won’t miss a beat with out Ward shoot he wasn’t even Tiki and we haven’t missed him at all…
Ward wasn't brought back
cuz he cost too much. I have little doubt they would have brought D-Ward back if his contract was smaller, but he deserved what he got so its no big deal.
GODZZIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!
by FreeBradshaw on Aug 28, 2009 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions
so
If Bradshaw never exsisted you don’t think we would of brought Ward back?? I do… but Bradshaw does exsist and Reese has confidence in him to do well, maybe better then ward.. so if Reese aint worried then neither am I and being that you said Bradshaw was going to rush for 1,000yds then neither are you… Stop letting some Lions fan tell you that Andre Brown was drafted to be Wards replacement and then have Bradshaw be the #3, that doesn’t even make sense…
I think that
Reese knew exactly what Ward meant, but that he was expendable. There was a reason we drafted Andre Brown, cuz he’s a clone of Ward.
Bradshaw is acutally a whole lot like Sinorice Moss…he seems to be a player that has his head up his ass a lot and that doesn’t mesh well with Coughlin (that’s why in the last preseason game, we saw a lot more of Danny Ware.
I actually would not be surprised if Bradshaw was again the #3 back at the end of preseason.
There really was no reason at all for Bradshaw to be the #3 talent wise coming out of camp last season other than him having his head up his ass in practice.

Questioning his intellect is hate enough.. Change your screen name already minus well say BenchBradshaw lol Seriously though do you have to be terrible smart to run the ball?? Why do you think there are always rookie running backs ripping the league a new one every year.. It’s not that demanding(Brain wise) of a position and probably the easiest one to transition to as a rookie…. Bradshaws off the field activities(Running from the POLICE) make him a better RB… Tiki was too smart for his own good, thats why he has no superbowl ring and Bradshaw did alot to get his…
First off...
football as a whole, you really can’t be too dumb. The playbook is as big as War & Peace, so you can’t be too dumb.
And the reason I talk about Bradshaw is not because of his intellect anyway. Its like Sinorice Moss, he just seems to beat himself up at the wrong time and that’s why he doesn’t play more.
I know that he was screwing up in practice for the Giants vs. Bears game, lots of mental lapses. That was why he was behind danny Ware for the #2 back that game.
He has more talent than Derrick Ward ever will too, but from injuries to screw ups in practice, things that Coughlin wants no part of, that’s why he didn’t play (and thus my screen name..Free Bradshaw.)
In no way am I refering to intellect. Im referring to too many brain farts.

I’m only going to make one comment… too dumb?? Plaxico?? Thats too dumb and he is wayyy too dumb but still got it done when he played and there are many other guys that have less of a brain then him, these players get helped through school(including middle/high) and get handed millions of dollars(Vick, Pacman.. all wayyyy too dumb) the list goes on for miles… To think these guys are smart your kidding yourself… If they are so smart how do they go broke a year after they mad 20mil(in one year) Thats called being STOOOPID… although i agree with alot of things you post(Including Bradshaws immaturity, which is what i think you were really trying to say) There are plenty of DUMB a$$ NFL players that are tops in there position.. Plenty… but we can always agree to disagree, btw loved ur post ragging on the Redsox fan lol go get him…
Oh if Bradshaw isn’t the number 2 this year its only going to hurt us has a TEAM, Coughlin sometimes is just has selfish as the players he disciplines… And I do love Ware he just isn’t Bradshaw(in my book) I could care less who is smarter as long as one gets it done, there here for my entertainment and to make me happy until next week, ya kno?!? Its why i pay all that damn money for jersey that i have to burn when they leave us :( Sad it is.. Maybe we are the dumb ones… lol
who hates on bradshaw? I’ve had a man-crush on him since the first time I saw him play in preseason. i think i even posted a fan shot from around that time stating my love lol

RUNNING GAME CONCERNS
I am concerned about the running game, in a falling dominoes, cause and effect kind’ve way: the backs are good, the line is good — but shaky at the moment, the WR’s are iffy.
Iffy WR’s can’t get open or stretch field (pre-season has done nothing to dispel this belief)
WR’s fall back into a suddenly shaky line due a down turn which collapses into the talented backs who, on top of it all, face 8 men in the box. Ergo: my concern about the running game. Sprinkle our streaky and over paid QB who can’t zip a ball in even decent weather and we have troubles my friends. I’ve been a fan since ’67, love this team dearly. But truth wins out — 8-8, 3rd or last place in the division. This IS NOT the team we thought it should be.
No, I am not kidding.
Eli is the hero, and the goat for this season. The O-line will not be as dominant. The WR’s will not click until mid-season, where’ll they will be 3-5, 5-3 at best, and Eli will throw about 20 tds to 20 ints. How do I know? Watch this team with a hard honest eye, not a fans rose colored hope. And I am a fan. Been there since Spider Lockart.
Dallas wins the division.
Philly second.
Giants and Skins battle for third and miss the play offs.
Remember this post. It shall come to pass.
No, I am not kidding.
Eli is the hero, and the G.O.A.T after this season. The O-line was never dominant as pass blockers, but with our dominant running game (of which I have very few concerns) teams will consistently stack the box, and the passing game will be reminiscent of the 2007 playoff run by mid-season, where behind our strong defense they will be 6-2, 5-3 at worst, and Eli will continue to improve on his completion % and passer rating throwing upwards of 27 TDs and will continue to keep his interceptions to a minimum, probably around 10. How do I know? I have a mother f*@$&#! crystal ball.
New York wins the Division.
Philly second.
Dallas and skins battle for third, and miss the playoffs.
Remember this post. It shall come to pass.

I was at the bears game --
Moved to Chicago recently for business reasons, very excited to go see my team at soldier field, positive in outlook, and then… what I saw was beyond embarrassing. The O-line was swiss cheese, the D-line didn’t know how to figure out the blocking schemes, were pushed out of play on nearly every snap and the WR’s — laughable. As was Eli’s inability to zip a ball into tight coverage, as Cutler did quite often. If Eli could do that, he’d’ve had a chance to get the ball downfield. He can’t. Hence: long season.
I could have sworn you posted you have been a fan since '67
If so then you know how this thing works. This is preseason. Glorified, televised, practice. Half the Giants O-line didn’t play against the Bears and the week before we were all pleased with how the D looked dominant against the Panthers and one of the best backs in football. It’s preseason. It’s practice. The Lions went 4 and 0 during last year’s preseason so I guess it’s safe to say that the preseason is not an indicator for the regular season.
how the hell
could you A) believe a thing from what you are hearing in Chicago-according to them they are in the SB already.
And B) believe anything you see in preseason?
That’s what’s laughable.
