It's not a 2-team division
NY and Philly are having injury issues and looking spotty. No biggie, I know. But I think it's grossly shortsighted to write off the Cowboys before the season. Out of these three teams, a combination of any two, or any single one, might be approximately even odds to make the playoffs.
Remember a few things: 1. The Cowboys were in the hunt last year. 2. Their defense looked fantastic at times and should be better this year under Wade. 3. Romo is going to start coming into his own. 4. The Cowgirls will compete for best run game in the Div. 5. And best pass attack. 6. Gone are the headcases that ruined last year.
I'm not going to say they're the team to beat. But they're pretty equivalent to the G-Men and the Eggs. They'd be favorites to win the North or West, maybe South.
Go ahead, beat me up.

Don't forget the Skins
Its a 4 team race. I would not be surprised to see the division inverted with the Skins and Cowpies making the playoffs.
I just don’t see any of these teams as significantly worse than last year.
The Giants and Eagles (and Skins) haven;t looked all that great in preseason, while the Pies have been playing well. That’s why they are preseason games and don’t count.
To be honest, Id rather there be questions about my team now, a team that I know will be good, rather than later. Gives ample time to get answers.

Remember, the Lions went undefeated in the pre season last year, we all know how that turned out. Free, what’s your feelings on the new Madden?
I like it.
Much more of that PS2 VIck or Culpepper on the cover feel, but still not enough (and too much of feel of the next Gen madden’s….which have been a waste of money).
They are taking a step in the right direction; but its still just baffling that with the money they get, the criticism they get of not matchin the 2K games, that they can’t just match that.
Overall tho, I don’t think I’ll be trading it in this year; Im actually having fun playing it.

I'm enjoying it too
Need to get my skills tight and then we’ll meet online. Right now, I’m sucking wind and that’s on Pro setting. Purchased the one for PS3 and the wife got me a subscription to SI for the free copy on 360, that should be in the mail any day now.
TO EARLY TO TELL
its a long season the cream will rise to the top
even before camp or pre season started
I’ve always maintained that Dallas should compete for a Wild Card spot.
they shoulda had one last year and they collapsed.
I was just over at ESPN and you would thought the Cowboys just won the Super Bowl or something. They’re really feeling themselves. a little too much if you ask me.
but yeah, they should be in the running….no reason not to.
The could actually compete for the division title.
They have the same formula as the Gmen. Nice defense, great running game, solid manager at qb and a receiving corps that has to step up and prove itself. It’s not like we’re heads and shoulders over the boys, and with these injuries, we may find ourselves competing for a Wild Card.
Yea, its funny taht they'd do that now...
any single success and they’re Bowl bound.
I mean I know they are kinda being underrated…but they are underrating the fact they are still an overrated team (if that makes ANY sense).

The only thing people are talking about
with the Cowboys is the stupid video screen. I’m not sure where you’re getting this Cowboys hype from, other than the usual stuff. Most media outlets haven’t given us a chance to win the division.

not a chance
the Cowboys are gonna struggle without T.O. They have no double team threat. And, I know you guys don’t want to believe it, but the Giants struggling without Plaxico. As for Philly, the question with them is how their defense will do without their 2 leaders. But their offense will be better.
best for last – I’m not saying anything about the Skins. I know they stay disrespected around the division, if not the whole league. I’m OK with that. They play better flying under the radar.
Cowboys offense will be much better without T.O.
we have a secret weapon and his name is Felix Jones.
In Romo we Trust
I agree
Jones will be a handful. But he’s a different threat than T.O. Jones won’t take coverage to one side of the field out of the backfield. I’m not taking anything away from Jones, they’re just two different types of weapons. Plus, Jones has to prove he can stay healthy.
Really tired of hearing about Plax
My question is, when it comes to the NFC East, which team truly has a double team threat? There are no receivers in the Beast that would make me shake in my boots. There are some good receivers in the Beast, but none not that will make a DC lose any sleep.

It's still very much believe it's a 2-horse race, until I see otherwise (in the regular season)...
Here’s something I wrote about the strengths and weaknesses of the Cowboys a couple months ago, and my opinions haven’t changed.
http://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2009/6/11/906632/3-part-series-our-rivals-biggest
Their MAJOR issue is along the offensive line, where they’ll be starting 5 guys that will ALL be 31 years of age or older by the end of the season, and where their depth is awful.
Plus, they have other serious concerns, which include their receiving corps, their defensive line, and their secondary.
Bye, Big Stew and JJ :(
you are very wise my friend
The Cowboys are definitely going to be better than what most think, especially if they stay healthy, their front line starters are as good as any in the league.
In Romo we Trust
Now I don't know about definitely.
I guess if someone thinks they’ll be 2-14, then yea, they probably will be better than that.
But I highly doubt they go 10-6 or any above that.
They have the horses at most positions, can the coaching staff use them right? That’s the problem. The coaching staff sucks. If Wade was the DC and someone smart was the HC, then the team could be a real problem.
Do what Jerry Hairston do
by FreeBradshaw on Aug 25, 2009 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions
If they stay healthy, they can easily go 12-4 or 11-5
The coaching staff doesn’t suck, they’re better than what most think as well.
In Romo we Trust
Wade Phillips has never won for a reason.
He sucks as a head coach. No one can tell me that with him as the HC that your staff doesn’t suck.
They will NOT have that record either, now you’re giving them too much credit.

not true
They went 13-3 in ’07 and have a better team this season. Staying healthy will be the key. They easily win 10-11 games with no problem if they stay healthy.
In Romo we Trust
13-3
was 100% tied to Parcells players and coaches.
If you give the credit to Wade for that season….well with respect to Ed I’ll just leave it at that.

Add in the fact that they lost there only playoff game (I forget against who…help someone?) and that 13-3 season doesn’t seem so special.

those players are still with the team
and you’re delusional if you think the other Parcells players that left contributed much if anything to that season.
BTW, Wade brought in his own coaches that year except for a few.
Nice try though.
In Romo we Trust
well they haven't been as good
once Wade has bought more of the “groceries”, so the idea that Wade and the staff now can actually win with their own guys let alone Parcells guys is pretty weak.

how does that logic make sense
we went 9-7 with felix jones missing most of the year, barber hurt most of the year, kosier out with injury the whole year, flozell playing with no arms for a couple games, romo out 3 games, the punter missing most of the year….and we still blew a game we probably should’ve won against pitt and lost a game to arizona that very well could’ve gone our way had romo not gotten hurt.
Not saying we’re a lock to go 12-4 like terry is, but i don’t see how ANYONE can say we won’t be better than 10-6.
It's pretty easy...
I usually just go “I see the Cowboys going 10-6, or perhaps 9-7.”

Last year in nothing to go by....
Lets all keep in mind that the Cowboys played at least 3 games (maybe 4?) without Romo and I believe at least 2 without its top two running backs (against the Steelers and Ravens!). Take Eli or McNabb down for 3 games last year and neither the Eagles or the G-Men make the playoffs either even with their top running backs in the game.
If either Romo and Felix Jones stay healthy…then it makes the O-line better by default. End of story. Teams are not going to be so fast to blitz with Felix lined up in the backfield, believe me.
"How bout them Cowboys!"
I would still blitz and force Felix to pick up that blitz. He can’t be a weapon if he’s trying to save Romo.
why does he have to pick up the blitz?
All Romo has to do is throw him the ball on a blitz and your defense is shredded.
In Romo we Trust
yea
cuz everyone on the defense blitzes…..
A LB will be salivating for the ball or Felix to catch the ball and pop him or INT the ball.

lol!
there isn’t LB in the league that could tackle Jones one on one and this season you’re about to find that out.
In Romo we Trust
Marion Barber has that reputation
and I’ve seen more of him but he is an absolute beast. However, the whole “no one can tackle him” bit is just silly.

tackling =/= chasing someone
so that doesn’t make sense.
Sure a LB or a DL could tackle Jones, it WILL happen too.

Also, wait and see....
Giants receivers will be better than people think. Eagles O-line will be worse than people think.
Both defenses will be worse than last year….I just don’t think they can replace the D-coordinators. Maybe I’m wrong, in any case may J.J. rest in peace…he was a hell of a coach.
"How bout them Cowboys!"
The Giants D was very good last year
But I can’t see them not improving with the additions they’ve made

I think the Giants wrs hold the key to the nfc east
I think you guys have the best oline, good rbs, and a decent qb. You have by far the best dline, and more depth in your front 7 than we do. But if your wrs do not step up i think you guys struggle to an 8-8 year or worse. I don’t see it being that much different than last december. If one or two of the young wrs do step up, your probably the favorite for the division.
I think the .......... wrs hold the key to the nfc east
You can insert any of the four teams in there. All four teams have a good D, good running game, good managers at QB (not so sold on Campbell, but we’ll see how he does being in same offense for a second straight year). I think that Dallas and Washington have the advantage at TE (simply because Gilbride won’t use Boss as a true weapon) but I think that the Gmen have the advantage in coaching. This race is going to be closer than most would like to believe.

Terrabytes of blogging threads over the last 8 months concisely summarized in three sentences. Hats off.
This division is wide open, and anything can happen. At the end, it will likely come down to injuries.

Cowboys Offence
People are all talking about the Cowboys’ lack of good receivers, but missing from that equation is the fact that while their run game was pretty bad last year, it’s probably going to be very good this year. Choice has emerged as a quality runner, and Barber and Jones are going to be very good if they can keep healthy. Felix Jones in particular looks like he could be dominant.
not necessarily
your rbs only take you so far. You need a line to block for them, and to this point we haven’t seen that from them, though preseason signs have been encouraging
Look what you've done Simms-McConkey!
by the way, now that we’ve had these arguments all offseason long, you just know that the Redskins are gonna run away with the division and we’re all gonna feel like morons.
Wait, what’s that? Oh, Dan Snyder didn’t sell the team. Never mind, then.
Future NFC East Divison odds
So who is going to win the division? It’s to close to call. Can anyone tell me which team will have the least injuries? I’ll bet on that team LMAO!
N.Y. Giants 9/5
Philadelphia 2/1
Dallas 2/1
Washington 11/2
Vegas Odds
I don’t think there is a line for not winning the division lol!
If there were, I would bet the team that would have the most injuries.
Last year I wagered even money the Giants would finish with a better record then 9 – 7.
That was easy money, course they didn’t have any major injuries, on the field that is LOL!
My bet was won on there 11th game.
The division winners will come from the team with the least injuries.
We are splitting hairs on who has betters WRs. We know so much more about our own that we wouldnt trade for anybody elses. Moss and Desean are the best deep threats. I would give Steve Smith the nod for slot guy. I like Roy Williams for the big possesion WR. Too many unknown with the others. Rookies are just not reliable enough to get high on any of them.
I see all of us splitting our games in the division. How we do outside of the division will determine the rankings. Many of those games will rely on when and where you play them. If you catch one of those guys coming off of a big divisional rival they might be a little emotionally spent. Maybe a key player being out or playing with a flu. It should be tight. If I would give the nod to anyone it would be Eagles and Giants. Thats not because of their players but because Reid and Coughlin have the best track records. Of course I say that but losing Spags and JJ are the biggest loses by any teams in our Division.
I find the harder I work, the luckier I get. Thomas Jefferson
